Arizona Cardinals 7-Round Mock Draft

Спорт

The most thoroughly researched Arizona Cardinals mock draft you will find.
Disclaimer: My priority with this mock draft is to identify players that I think have a good chance of being selected by the Cardinals. I tried to get the pick close to their rankings, but I'm more focused on identifying the players I think they'll prioritize than fixating on getting the player in the right round. For example, in last year's mock, I had the Cardinals taking Kei'Trel Clark in the 4th round, whereas they took him in the 6th round. That's still a hit. I also get them right sometimes - I nailed the Garrett Williams pick in last year's mock. Also, PFF updated their rankings after I recorded this, so even that's going to have some variance. So, if you're focusing on my "reaches" you're missing the point of this mock.

    Hi Joseph, Thank You for your deep dive research. Going into Monti's past record with the Patriots and Titans is a good idea. But he is in charge now, So He may go his own way like last year. Arnold should go before #19. IMMHO, The Edge rushers may be on the Cardinals radar. CB was somewhat addressed in free agency. I agree there may be a trade up in the 1st but for the Edge rusher. About 4th rders. Remember Evan Boehm C 2016 NFL Draft. He scored 4.69 on the 20 yard shuttle. 2017, Guard Dorian Johnson 4th rder had a shuttle time of 5.09. I hope Monti uses this shuttle drill that Josh Norris uses in his cheat code. Looking forward to the Draft. Have a great week.

    Yeah, I acknowledge that hey will likely deviate from the chart at some point - though, he didn't deviate from it last year. Every pick he made fit the chart. But I imagine there will be at least one pick that's outside of it this year. With the trade up, I could easily see it being edge or even OT.

  • @TheCardinalRule

    Early 2nd round is roughly where Braswell is ranked on PFF (though they aren't the end-all-be-all), and edge rushers often go early. But, who knows? Maybe that is early for him? I wrestled with the pick after the trade. Could easily see it being OT or EDGE they go after there, and then going CB in round 2.

    I like the Ray davis pick, but i do have a question. I know that last year, petzing liked using rondale moore as a scat back to catch defenses off gaurd after using james conners power back style of run do you think that instead of drafting someone like ray davis it might make more sense to draft a scat back this draft since we no longer have rondale moore?

  • @TheCardinalRule

    @TheCardinalRule

    Ай бұрын

    That's a good question. They might. I've only seen reports of two running backs meeting with the Cardinals - Davis and Dillon Johnson out of Washington, who is 6' 218. But, obviously, teams sometimes take players they haven't met with. Another player to keep in mind is Michael Carter, whom they picked up when the Jets waived him. He might fill that role as well.

  • @hammerdon1962
    @hammerdon1962Ай бұрын

    I'll be hoping till the last minute that they trade out of number four. I just think there's too much wide receiver Talent out there to pick one that high. But no matter. you do a phenomenal job is always Joe. The Patriots didn't pick 4th overall. so I don't know what they look at there, as far as roster Construction. The best teams don't seem to have the highest paid wide receivers. Obviously they are low priority in Kansas City. I think travion Mitchell would be a coup. And I like all the rest of your pics. particularly the offensive lineman.

    I considered getting a tackle somewhere, and I do think there's a good chance Monti ends up doing that. A CB room typically only has 4-5 players, and with the guys they drafted last year and the addition of Murphy-Bunting, I felt like it was less likely they'd pick up two CBs in the draft this year. It's absolutely possible they do, but the numbers game led me to lean against that.

    I like your content, and I have a ton of respect for your takes. But it would be pretty disappointing if this is how it turns out. Outside of the first round, it’s underwhelming. I don’t necessarily hate any of the picks, but it feels like most of them are significant reaches and I believe there will be far better prospects still available in several of those spots. Ironically, Bortolini is one of the few selections that I didn’t think was a reach. I would be fine with taking him in the fourth or fifth round. But I think the second and third round picks would still be available a round or two later. And I know we signed an OT in FA, but I would be disappointed if they don’t draft someone in the first four rounds to develop and provide insurance. The Cowing pick was particularly rough. I agree we need to draft at least two WRs and I’m fine taking another one in the third round. But this draft is so deep at that position, I think there will still be at least 5-10 options that I would prefer before him. He would be an option for me in rounds five or six if we still needed a WR. I love that you put your thoughts out there and it’s a lot of fun to discuss. So I don’t want to be too negative. We just disagree on what they should do. Keep at it and I’ll keep commenting. Let’s go Cards!

  • @TheCardinalRule

    @TheCardinalRule

    Ай бұрын

    Thank you for the feedback. It's entirely possible some of them were reaches/taken too early. For example, while I hit on Kei'Trel Clark as a Cardinals pick last year, I had them taking him two rounds earlier than they did. Where I plotted them was heavily influenced by PFF's rankings and doing hundreds of mock drafts on their site, so perhaps you have some of these players ranked differently than they do. In the end, I'm less concerned with which round I take the player in (especially on day 3) than trying to project accurately which players they might take. And, in preparing for the video, I wrestled with that and moved the player picks around a lot before settling on what I came up with. But, if they take a player I projected as a 3rd round pick in the 4th round, I still consider that a pretty solid projection.

    @@TheCardinalRule I owe you an apology. I like your draft way more than what they're actually doing. I can't believe they passed on Newton, DeJean, and McKinstry...TWICE. They didn't trade when I wanted them to and now they trade when I wanted them to stay. I like Melton and Benson, but I think they reached on both. I must have studied at least 30 interior linemen going into this draft, and I never even heard of Adams until we picked him with a premium third-round pick at 71. He better be great, because Dallas took Beebe two picks later and Haynes (and about ten other guys I like) are still on the board. Meanwhile, teams like the Eagles are predictably putting on a clinic. With only two picks so far, they've secured arguably the two best defensive backs in the draft at picks 22 and 40. We've had five picks already and I'm envious of the Eagles two picks. I realize I'm reacting in real-time, but I am so disappointed so far. I went from hoping for a franchise-altering draft to hoping we don't reach on every pick. It feels like a crapshoot if half of these guys even come close to reaching their draft value. Sometimes you can overthink things and outsmart yourself. I'm dreading looking back on this draft already. I hope I'm wrong. But this sucks so far.

    Nice work Professor, I disagree with 95% of it, but it was a good draft. Everything Monty says that Arizona is leaning towards is more like an 90% trade the pics scenario. He has not outright said that, but if you read into what he said, his last press conference, etc. the leaning is towards trading the pic in my opinion, he even has already said he has an idea of what he’s doing with this pic already. According to everything I’ve heard lately from non-fan sources, Arizona is very much looking towards addressing offensive tackle and cornerback early in the draft, not wide receiver therefore that means wide receiver at number four wouldn’t fit with her after and trading back to 11 would allow them to More and directly address these positions at correct draft value. Furthermore, Monte says he loves Marvin Harrison Junior, but he never said he plan to draft this player and just because someone loves a person or a position doesn’t mean they intend to take that position. Every team in the NFL loves Marvin Harrison juniors talent, LMAO. The only people who say wide receiver is a serious position of need to the Cardinals early are the fans according to all the information I have learned in the last year. I know that the patriots have drafted exactly 2 wide receivers in the first round, and one of those Monty wasn’t there for LMAO, I do not believe he was there for the second one either so during his entire time with the patriots they never took a wide receiver in the first round to my knowledge, I may have the second pick wrong there :-) If you ask me, our first pic is going to probably be a cornerback and our second pick or third pick in the first round is going to be a tackle in my opinion, but we never know.

    FWIW, I recorded this before PFF's latest update to their rankings. When doing my mock, I worry less about which pick I get the player at, and focus more on trying to identify players I think have a good chance of being picked by the Cardinals. For example, last year I had Garrett Williams and Kei'Trel Clark on my mock. I nailed the Williams pick - even hitting on the fact that it was a pick acquired by trade from the Titans (though, I had it as a trade for Hopkins, whereas it was actually a part of a trade of picks). But with Clark, I had the Cardinals taking him in the 4th round, whereas they actually took him in the 6th. I still consider that a hit and a win, because I accurately identified a player they coveted and picked.

    I think that drafting MHJ plus another receiver, to go along with Michael Wilson and Greg Dortch, will be enough - especially considering how much Trey McBride will be involved.

    No more small receivers. Want another taller receiver.

    I like a lot of the players and almost all of the positions picked in specific rounds... except one. Teams who missed the playoffs should rarely draft Running Backs, and almost never before the sixth round. They are too replaceable and should not be factored into a team's future assets. If they are good, they will get paid more than their value and are likely to drop off faster than any other position. If you're spending draft assets acquiring rbs through the draft when you're bad, you're hurting the team. I know this is a prediction and not specifically your choices, but it will be frustrating to see us spend capital on RBs when we need depth in so many positions that aren't as easy to find for dirt cheap.

    I don't mind taking RBs on day 3, personally. But I hear ya.

    @@TheCardinalRule I don't really either, especially if they like the guy. But I feel like this might be a good year to sit out on them considering where we are. Our RB room has two decent pros, and our 3rd RB can be just a project UDFA without too much concern. But, I will concede that if they take a guy in the 4-5 range, they know better than myself about who they are getting

    @@TheCardinalRule Round 3 RB, how do you feel about it? Seems like he might be good as RB3 for a few years, but not sure we didn't waste this pick.

    Gabriel Murphy is ranked in the 200s overall... what about Dorlus, Trice or Robinson... and the Arizona sub 6' WR is crazy... no one wants smaller WRs... Luke McCaffrey is a better pick. Respect, but this mock is trash. Hope none of these picks happen in that order EXCEPT Harrison

    When I recorded the video (last week) Gabriel Murphy was ranked 81 on PFF's big board. They've adjusted their rankings since then, and now he's ranked 149 on their board. I really like Murphy's fit for what they do, and just have this feeling he's a player they're going to target. Maybe they are able to get him later than the 3rd round. I don't think Cowen is crazy... the Cardinals met with him, so there's interest. They also met with other bigger receivers, so it could go either way. I stand by my rationale for the pick. BTW, I'd encourage you to eliminate the term "trash" from your vocabulary when discussing work that someone else does. It's disrespectful, regardless of whether you throw in the word "respect." Saying "I disagree" is respectful. But I invite you to start a channel, put in your own analysis, and put your work out there for others to critique. Do that for a while, and I think you won't throw the word trash around any more. I know I would never speak in that manner to anyone who puts work in on something.

    Nah, even the Harrison pick doesn't make sense. Either pick Oline to protect KM or trade back.
