Ariel Helwani actually seems genuine about this. That's unfortunate that such an incident occurred and you can tell that he has a personal relationship, not just a business relationship.

Seemed like he was almost on the verge of tears tbh. I know he was out of breath, but seemed like he was choking up a little too. And it's understandable given how great of a guy Mayhem was (and probably still is, he's just lost).

Ariel is easily the best MMA reporter, period. Tons of support Ariel, please keep it up. You're my favorite source for all things MMA. I really like the questions you ask and how you handle yourself in interviews. It's very impressive how well you organize your thoughts and roll with the unexpected; but still stay composed. Seriously, much props man. I'd put you in there with Randy and Chuck and Dana and Joe for helping take MMA mainstream.

It sucks to see Mayhem like that. Depression and Anxiety often leads to depersonalisation. I think it's a good idea for him to spend some time off the spotlight. Time with his family or a close friend. He will be ok eventually, but he should put the time and effort into his recovery. Also, Ariel is a boss. Best MMA jounalist hands down.

I really feel bad for Jason Miller ("mayhem").. he was a great fighter, he also had a show called "bully beatdown" which I thought was AWESOME (look it up if you haven't seen it). He had a long career and his body is so effed up. He also has a lot of baggage he's carrying around since before he entered the MMA scene, and then after leaving the MMA life for so long- It's a total shock to your psyche, what do you do next? How do you become "normal" again after for SO many years, especially after playing the part of that crazy, wild guy who kicks ass.. it's gotta mess with your head and I'm sure could make you bi-polar or have schizophrenia.. yeah he's made some dumb mistakes, but who hasn't.. just because he's famous and the spotlight is on him at all times, every little mistake is a huge story and told to everyone. He looks real depressed and seems lost like he doesn't know what to do next or what path he should go down in life.. I think he needs a therapist... Also, I've ALWAYS hated Dana White- he's like a douche bag, manipulative, dictator who has gotten so high off the power he has over these fighters! I feel like they should form a union, without all of these incredibly talented fighters that he's a dick to that fight under the name "UFC" and make him rich , he would be a nobody- just another prick feeling self-entitled..

Thanks to everyone that helped answer my question. I apologize for asking a question totally unrelated to this video but the question came up as I was watching this. It turns out that I was specifically thinking of Brian Ebersole. He fought not long ago with with his chest hair shaved into the shape of an arrow pointing up. He gave up his neck multiple times and it seemed as if he was doing it on purpose, just to show off that they wouldn't put him to sleep. And they didn't. It was strange.

was this live? if not then them airing this completely throws the "sad to see this happen" and "this could have been a platform for him" -talk right out the window.

Fair pont. Do you think "mayhem" will explain this or just let it slip? The same with his church antics, was that just the preview into his meltdown and the continuation on the mma hour or was he playing an act there also.

I totally agree with this. It's his job to ask questions that are relevant and that people want to hear. For my money I've only ever heard him be very respectful and it's tricky dealing with powerful characters who can be very off the wall a la Mayhem, Rampage etc. etc. and I think he does very well. I don't get why people like to rain hate on the guy, he's doing better than anyone else in that field

How are there so may comments when there are only 302 views? Seems like someone is using some aliases to post their bullsh*t. You're a great interviewer, Ariel. I'm surprised you were able to keep Mayhem/Patrick talking as long as you did without calling an end to the interviewer. You're always very intuitive in your questions and normally have no awkward pauses. This will be one to remember later in your career.
