I first started playing melodies on the drum kit in 1993. I was heavily inspired by drummers Earl Harvin and Jeff Hamilton who I heard “make the drums sing”. Listening to them there was no doubt about what song was being played during a drum solo. I soon realized it was possible to get all 12 notes of the scale from the basic 4 piece kit I was using and went to work leaning some bird heads.
Here is a recent version of Don’t take the G train from my UK tour in the fall.

Wow! I've never heard a drumset sing like this. You can clearly hear it sing the blues! Amazing trio.

That's the power of craviatto drumsets I love them soo much
The older I get the less things make me smile. I was smiling big during this. Thanks Ari! Love you're music.
I was sat In the front row that evening and I can safely say, it was magical !!

his intonation is absolutely perfect
At first I was like "This is just a excentric weirdo" He shut me up, there's so much to learn from him
Recently I heard a 1940 tympani solo by Sonny Greer on a Duke track. When you picked up the mallets I was immediately reminded of Sonny. You are advancing our instrument's capabilities and thank you so much for that, Bro. Sonny would be so proud of you! Bravo!!!
First time hearing, Tom Ollendorff. Really great!

incredible thumb position playing from conor chaplin
God I just love Ari's interpretation of melodies and the kit. I gotta start doing that myself. Absolutely fantastic guitar playing as well.
Wish I didn’t have to take the G train. But it’s the only way to get from Bedstuy to Harlem! Damn. The playing from all 3 of these guys was so creative and fresh I didn’t even realize I was listening to a blues form until like over halfway through! Awesome.
I really wasn't expect that moment at 5.59 and I smiled all the way through the rest.
So great to have you back Ari - brilliant concert with yourself Tom & Conor! Hope to see & hear you again soon!
Sound so good Ari!!!
Not only the theme itself is great, but also the fact he can play it on a drums is amazing! Fantastic trio really!
Wonderful performance! Thank you!

F Blues. Love the melodic/singing drumming + ensemble. A Trio w/ great chemistry.
Is this tuneful playing of kit drums something that other drummers have done in the past? It's amazing to watch and enjoyable to listen to... superb

I think the drummer purposely tuned the kit to this song to trade off choruses with the bass player..🔥🔥🔥🔥 genious
Excellent
I'm so happy I discovered you guys! You have no idea how much I've searched for this perfect, fresh jazzy coolness.

🔥🔥🔥
Ari, you are a master! Please come to Monterey Jazz with this band! Killer stuff x3! Is that a Camco kit? Sizes? What is that ride? Just lovely......
When you really want to learn the piano but your parents can only afford a drum set
Wena!!
dope bassist
Yeah!! 👏🏻…👏🏻…👏🏻…👏🏻🥁🎻🎶👌🏻🔥
Ari makes simple figures played on the toms swing harder than relativistic quantum field theory
That's entertainment!
Rest assured, we'll be taking the A train
Re the section from 6:02, how does Ari get two pitches out of the lower tom? Looks like he hits the first note of each phrase across the skin. Or is it with a different velocity?

I was going to ask the same question bc I didn’t see a badge. Not trying to turn this into a DW shitpost but… I’ve never heard DWs sound this musical and with that kind of rich tone. Ari could make cardboard boxes and hubcaps sound musical though.

@@swayed11 i agree with you about dw drums as well as aris musicality. but these are not dws. they are either camcos or maybe hayman drums (same aristocrat lug but I believe made in England). also great drums
Someone: HeY cAn YoU pLaY a SoNg On ThE dRuMs LoL Ari: Actually does it Everyone: :O Seriously though, that pitching is incredible. I didn't think something like this was actually possible.
Is that Tom Ollendorff from Odendorf? He certainly is no dork. What are the drums? Just to finish this doff with the worlds worst question. I'm just hoping against hope they are not DW....please please don't let them into the jazz world please please They sound so great!
ARI ? Do you wanna play with my friend jazz organist pat bianchi ?
G is for Gazz
Jazz timpani
He's playing so many cool tom tom melodies with just 2 tom toms, but why only use 2 tom toms, why wouldn't he use at least 3 tom toms to get some more notes?
