I'm a beginning C&R guy, and have a Winchester Model 71, Mosin, SKS, Martini Cadet, and a few other oldies... but my 1909 is easily my favorite. It's just such a beautiful gun. The machining is so precise and the action so smooth, and the walnut wood is just gorgeous. Such a handsome gun.

@@AP2020_Outdoors I've always been aware of the Mausers, but until relatively recently I just thought of them as the K98 German guns. Now, thanks to this channel as well as Ian at Forgotten weapons and Othias and Mae at C&Rsenal, I'm gaining an appreciation for these guns. I was never aware of the many variants of Mausers and the development of what we know as the Mauser action. I was always more of an American centric enthusiast, Browning, Winchester, Remington and so on (yes I know Browning did a lot of work in Europe, but I still think of him as an American designer.)

Just now saw this video. Love the old Argentines. The round was developed (or at least adopted by Belgium) in 1889. The Argentines adopted it in 1891 and used it up until they adopted the 7.62 NATO round. In a large ring action, the 7.65x53 round is easily every bit as effective as the .308 Winchester, which mean that the .308 is nothing new and the Argentines have been doing its job for many facades before it's inception.

Outstanding! Yes, there is an encyclopedia written on Mausers. Many of the Argentinian rifles were sporterized to 308, and jig bend the bolt handle, Fajen stocked and bedded. It's in the action. Maybe the next time y'all revisit the Mauser, you can give a collectors' lesson on Ring Size of the numerous variants.

Many Custom Mauser rifle builders, including myself consider this as the pinnacle 98 action to build a rifle on. My favorite is a custom rifle chambered in .25-06 that is a tack driver. Shooting 100 grain PEP bullets, deadly medicine for coyotes.

I was lucky enough to go to this one gun range and this very nice man with a kar98k was shooting next to me. I asked him about it and apparently his father had served in france and brought all sorts of spoils like the kar, I believe a luger or two, and I think he also brought a bunch of other rifles and an MG 42 or 34. He allowed me to shoot his kar and I tell you, it had no recoil and the trigger was crisp. I own a mosin and it is the complete opposite lol. Germany has some excellent rifles.

Great video as always. I definitely got hooked with my first milsurp, just a Mosin like most everybody. 1942 Tula 91/30 for $79.99 from Big 5 Sporting goods, back in 2007. Since then, the milsurp collection has grown, and I'm trying to get as many as I can before they all go away. I got a bnz 45 Kriegsmodel K98k and a VKT M39, those are my favorites, along with my SA M1 Garand. Just got to love the classics and wondering where these old rifles went to, just wishing they could talk. Highly recommended to pick up and own at least one milsurp rifle, but just like Eric said, you might just get hooked!

Privipartisan ammo for the 7.5 x 53 round has too small of a rim (not SAAMI spec) to extract reliably on my Argentine. Am thinking about buying Norma brass to shoot in this gun. Also, with my rifle, the sights are regulated to zero at 300-400 yards at the closest sight setting. I had to buy a high front sight and file fit it to zero at 100 yards from Brownells.

And my next hunt I am looking for a Mauser I don’t know which kind yet. I guess it will be whatever I can find for a reasonable price. That will add to my collection of A.R. 15‘s, AK-47 or as it would be called a AKM in 7.62x39. I haven’t got one in 5.45 x 39 yet. I did say yet. And of course my wonderful collection of Ruger 1022‘s. 1889 on that caliber. And this rifle along with the Chilean 1912 were part of an arms race between chile and Argentina. 1891 argentine, 1895 Chilean, 1909 argentine, 1912 Chilean. Chile was worried about an Argentinian invasion, I have a 1912/61, converted to 308 in 61. Probably my favorite guns, it's so smooth and amazes me that it's over 100 years old

Got me a 1909 Argentine that was rechambered in 30-06 sadly. Was looking into reloading with .311 bullets but I’m hearing that the neck won’t fit the chamber if I do that. So now I’m on the fence on wether or not to re ream it 7.65-06 style or pop a Lothar Walther barrel in a caliber more to my liking such as 7x57

A friend of mine bought one of those at Cabela’s a while back and we like to go to the range and try to put shoot each other with me using my 91/30. Both are great guns. On a side note IV8888 could you do a video on the Taurus TH40 or TH9? I’m looking to get one for its ambi features to replace my SD40VE.

Hey Eric! I just got an AMD-65 Do you have one? I am glad I chose an oddball AKM variant over the Wasr, and their muzzle brakes make the biggest fireballs I've seen. I'd love it if you could showcase one, and maybe even compare the array of mil-spec /factory muzzle brakes/ flash reducers, slant tips, the classic T tip baffle, a lantac?

You guys should do a long range test and comparison of the Winchester extreme point ammunition with other proven rounds. We have seen the ballistic performance in gel but videos of long range accuracy are scarce or non-existent. It would be nice to know the abilities before spending $50 or more to go to a long distance shooting range.

Pardon my history nerd but 7.65x53 was developed by Mauser for Belgium along the the Mauser 1889 rifle. The 1889 got around, the ammo even more so.
