The plot twist might be that she probably isn't screaming at the top or her lungs and she has more to give. Singers like her rarely ever scream to the top of their lungs and keep some too!

This scene was filmed in Nate's Deli in Chicago. After this film, it was packed with customers until it was bought out by the Univ of Chicago for an expansion project in 1995. Today the address doesn't even exist. It's now part of Marie Robinson Hall "Marie Robinson Hall (MRH) is an apartment style residence hall with all students living in individual bedrooms. All apartments are equipped with full kitchens, private bedrooms, and shared bathrooms. While most residents occupy 4-person apartments, there are also a number of 1- and 2-person apartments." A piece of history lost to a dorm. They could have at least built around it and kept the deli intact for the students and the locals. Hell, it was still making money and was a piece of history. Should not have been destroyed.

I'm ashamed to say that I did not appreciate this scene when it first came out. The scales have been lifted from my eyes. Aretha is at her peak and she is unstoppable. There is not a woman on planet Earth that can match her. Even John and Dan realize it. So they join the dance.

I remember this when this movie came out and never forgot. It was the best song of the movie by far. I was in the movie theater and was blown away. Even my father who was not into soul music was alive when this movie made its way to TV was impressed. I don't know a lot in this life but I knew even then that this was a knockout performance the moment I saw it. I bought one of her greatest hits albums 17 years ago. When I heard the news today I grabbed it and it will be playing in my car for a long time.
