My dad loved this, he had met Cab when he was in a jazz quartet and they went to hear him play. My dad and Cab talked about what it was like to get started. He kept in touch and whenever Cab was playing within 200 miles he would go to the show. I remember being introduced to him. So when the movie came out I took my dad to see it. When he first saw Cab he leans over and say's "I'll bet you a million bucks he sings Minnie the Moocher." He loved the movie, because he loved all kinds of music and this had it all. He would say that this was one of the best musicals that Hollywood has made.

This movie got me into soul and blues music. Cab was an entertainer, period. I’ve heard Cab’s other versions of this song but this my favorite. The man was in his 70’s and still had the voice and moves. P.s. Mr. Fabulous was tearing it up on the trumpet

Great movie. The only thing about this particular scene is how fast they changed costumes before the song began. Another scene in the movie I liked was when they "We're the good old boys blues band" Playing Rawhide.

It musta been bittersweet to do performances like this for Cab and others from his generation. To start his career in a time when coloured performers were still shuffled in & out of "whites only" clubs via side/back doors due to 2nd class citizenship and to be around long enough to end up revered, respected, and idolized for your talent and showmanship within the field, id think was both joyous and somewhat angering.

Cab Calloway, the ultimate entertainer, as far as I am concerned. My dear departed father shared that his mother would not all allow "swing" music in her house, specifically Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman. Yet, when I asked about Cab Calloway, he looked at me in horror. Good stuff, GREAT stuff!

this is actually a much better rendition than some of the originals... his age definitely gave it some wine qualities, calmed and collected and much more refined at this point even though i imagine he might have been trying to reach into some younger days...
