I'm a 55yr old male working as an ER tech. I finished my BS in Biology at 52. I've been trying to get into PA school but having a tough time due to my GPA. As an older student, my goal was to finish each semester with whatever grade "C" or "B" and if I'm lucky an "A". But I just wanted to get to the next semester and just finish school. I wanted to finish and get to the next level of my life journey. I had no guidance on grades, GPA, or transferring from school to school and dealing with transferring credits. My GPA took a hit and I know it's what stopped me from getting into PA school. I've been in the medical field as an EMT in the ambulance and ER for over 17 years. So I do have the experience but not the grades. I'm still trying to get into PA school but also trying to get into nursing school. I can't give up. I've sacrificed so much to get my BS degree. It took me so so long to get it. I just can't be a glorified ER tech with a BS degree getting the same pay and busting my hump every 12-hour shift while everyone is moving on with their life with education. I need to keep moving.

That's tough. I'm sorry to hear your struggles. It's not like it used to be where people would look at the candidate overall and give credit to experience. Now days it's very regimented and so competitive that you have to meet all the requirements to even have a chance. I think your idea about becoming a nurse may be a great plan. Heck, RN pay often rivals PA/NP pay and sometimes surpasses it! Then, if you still wanted to, you could look into PA or NP school, definitely making a spread sheet of requirements and figuring out the best path. Also, I'd just like to say CONGRATS to you getting your BS degree. I know how hard it can be to do it later in life and you should be proud of yourself. Regardless of where it leads you next, you have accomplished something that was hard won. The last think I would suggest is to look around even more. There are tons of different ways to work in healthcare, if you want to stay in this field. Maybe you could find something that suits you even better. For instance, that BS degree could get you in the door at a pharmaceutical or device manufacturer. I've got a video coming out soon that talks about the 1,000's of jobs in Healthcare Industry. These jobs pay well and you could definitely be a candidate. In the video, the PA I interview said that she works with someone who was a flooring salesman that met the science course requirements. If they can get hired, you definitely have a chance. Obviously, I can't promise you anything, but I just want to make sure you've thought about other options. PA/NP are not your only choices. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck and thanks for watching my channel and commenting!

@@TheMedicineCouch Thank you so much for responding and giving me your advise. I will take it into consideration. I'm gonna give it one more try with PA school maybe 2 schools this time and if that doesn't work I will be still working on getting into nursing. I'll study for the HESI before going all out study mode on the GRE. I hope to get into either schools. I will wait on your video to see other options. Thank you again.

There are some schools that are not gpa dependent but of course other requirements are super strict. Keep going it doesn’t matter PA or NP we need those level clinicians and as someone who is also older trying to get in we need your knowledge. I’m rooting for you. Best of luck.

There's a school in Montana or Las Vegas. Where you don't have to have as high as GPA, and if I'm not mistaken. There's a school in West Virginia college of Charleston, where the highest math requirement is algebra, keep doing the research, you got this.

I'm in my mid 50s and, have been working as a PA for more than 2 decades. I taught PA school. One of my students was a 63 y.o. engineer from India. Another student was a 54 y.o. biochemist from Iran. There were also other students in their 40s. I think it's worth the time investment and sacrifice. I work as a hospitalist, private practice and, employment health. I would suggest maintaining ones fitness level, pace yourself and don't compare yourself to others. I subscribed. This is such GREAT advice! ☺️👋🏽👨🏽‍⚕️
