Depending on how much tension you give your yarn as you form each stitch, you will also also see much smaller to no gaps between the fibers. I prefer yu/yo for amigurumi. Gives a cleaner look IMO. But both approaches are great. And depending on the design, yo/yo may yield options to help with additional things the crocheted is attempting. Perhaps you are attempting to weave other materials like fur, felt, or ribbons into your doll? Or as one commented stated, fighting with tighter stitches that yu/yo yields is painful for you? Both methods are going to give great final products. 😊

Not me getting confused in the middle of crochet wondering what the right way to yarn is and then doing the opposite thing 💀

Yarn over because as a beginner it helps me more and I don't have to use as much yarn

I didnt realize there was such a difference! I prefer the yarn under but have always done the yarn over. Tfs!!

    That's pretty cool. I didn't know there'd be a difference in look

I learned how to yarn under, so that's all I ever do. I also realized way to late that a single crochet meant going under both loops, I always just did back loop.
