How interesting! I've crocheted for 51 yrs and just never thought about the YU concept. Thank you for the comparisons because I do a lot of amigurumi and I'll just have to "get used" to the yarn under feel. Old dogs CAN learn new tricks if they want to! lol

Same, I am crocheting every day for 20 years and it's been three month I guess, that I've learned that there is another way to make crochet stitches. I've discovered it with GretaWings' channel, who's making amigurumis and, I've tried it, but it is a bit difficult if you've worked a V stich all your life, plus you must use a smaller crochet because X stiches have the habit to tighten by themselves.

Thank you so much for demoing all 4 permutations of this. Super helpful!! I've been doing YU-YU lately, but I find that the second YU often slips off my hook because of the strange angle. I'm actually so relieved to hear that I can do YU-YO instead. This gives me the best of both worlds-tighter stitches, and my loops don't fall off!

This video is sooooooooo underrated. Eveything about this explaination was on point. From all the prjects being labled for the whole video, two easy to compare examples (most videos will compare two different designs which, especially for a begginer like me, makes it hard to know what I'm looking at), pluuuus bonus examples. You answered all the questions I had--even the ones that came from watching other peoples explaination videos-- in a way that was super clear and stright forward. Thank you so much, I know that this is gonna be a great refrence as I keep learning

It looks like the yarn under/yarn overr (the green ball) uses less yarn than the others. So if that's the case, when someone doesn't think they will have enough yarn for a project, maybe using that technique would help a person finish a project using their favorite yarn.

Omg thank you so much for this video!!! I've learned crocheting by yt-videos, but never realized where to put the yarn 🙈 It tooked me about 10 years too figure out why my dc (and aaaall the others) doesn't look like they should 😱 As I learend today: I did the yoyu-thing + I did the yo from the front 🤦‍♀️😂 Yesterday someone asks me, if I could see the difference between the two pieces she made. I was like "yes but I can't tell" she told me, that she used V for the first and X for the second one... V? X? Never ever heard about that. So I started searching... I'm german and there are several german videos about x and v, but they show where to put the HOOK. I looked them like 1000 times and didn't get it. But now I know where to put the YARN... life changing 🤩 and bonus, I found a name for the mess I did the last years (yoyu) Crocheting is much easier now when the yarn "runs" through the loops (it was really hard work to pull the yarn through the messy strings 😅) Long story short: Thank you ❤️ Ps: sorry if I made grammar mistakes 🙈

After crocheting for 65 years, I tried the x stitch and I LOVE it. I'm making an amigurumi using yu yo technique and it is lots faster too because I don't have to keep adjusting my left hand. It just stays in place. I have a question though regarding wrapping the yarn for hdc, dc, etc. If It was asc I'd go straight into a stitch and THEN wrap, but when I have to wrap my yarn FIRST like for a hdc or dc, do I wrap over or under? Tyia

I noticed some people did yu,yo so I just went with that and have been doing it since. Also, you are the second person I've seen do front loop only. I do FLO for amigurumi, and I think it’s because it draws it kinda close to the front and leaves the back loop positioned behind it in a way that blocks the stuffing from behind seen, if that makes sense? But I’m not completely sure if that’s why. I think it just looks more “bubbly”. I should do a video about front loop only vs back loop only and the difference in going through both loops, too!

I've been making amigurumi for years and my items always looked taller than what they were supposed to be. Do you think this will make a difference as far as the height of the stitch?

I think it definitely could, especially depending on your tensioning.

Have you been able to determine if you think it did make a difference? I suspect it would not make a noticeable difference because I think height of the stitches is just all determined by how far/high you pull up your yarn whether it's YO or YU.

How can you do decrease for x stitches

I just do them the same as my invisible decrease, it’s just the way I wrap it that’s different. I put my hook through both stitches I want to decrease and then single crochet like normal. 😊 Hope that makes sense!

Fabulous explanation! Thank you! Might I suggest that you please not shake the sample too much. You talk with your hands, which is fine. I love that you are "extra like that." But when the sample is in your hand & it is moving so much, I can't see the sample.

I found this video super interesting but I just wish you would have held the balls still instead of shaking them all the time. I had to keep pausing to try to catch the moments when I could see the patterns side by side.
