    Here’s a little story Roblox was a big part of my childhood. I loved the repetitive tycoons and the other strange games on the site. I have a lot of good memories of playing with my brother. One of the games I remembered playing a lot was Natural Disaster Island Survival. One of the best things I did for myself, was going back and playing it again, because it crushed my memories into pieces. It was easy, slow, graphics looked lame to me now, not to mention finding another cool game was nearly impossible and everything possibly cool on the site had a better alternative as a real game somewhere else. Hell, my brother’s account even appeared to have been hacked. Nothing damaging, but hacked nonetheless It was a strange eye opener to be honest, the past is over. Done. Gone. The eyes of a child are one of a magical, ignorant bliss, and I’m not a child. All I have is the memory of those times, and I can cherish every bit of it. But *one must focus on creating new memories, or the “good ol days” will be the only good days you have*

    When I was younger, I loved Tamagotchis. I had gotten one for every birthday and Christmas and I was ecstatic. A year ago I found a retro mini version at my local toys r us. I think I spent a total of 5 minutes with it before getting bored. It’s neat to have that little piece of history, to remember the excitement for a 30 dollar pet. This is honestly the best video that tamago has put out, by a huge margin. The pacing is smooth and there are segments which tells us which part we are currently on which helps us, the viewer, keep track. This video also has an amazing storyline; the evolution from the email to the philisophical realisation was transitioned beautifully. Something that wasnt really spoken of was the background music; it really help emphasise the feelings we felt and for some parts accented his jokes. I also like the decision to record elsewhere, or atleast somewhat change the environment. It fits the feel of the change of flavour for this video. I hope to see more professional content like this.

    Something always bothers me how people glorify the past _when they were kids_. The 80s and 90s weren't perfect, it seemed perfect to you because you were still a kid, and that's the magic of being a child.

  • @ArtsyStarleta

    @ArtsyStarleta

    2 жыл бұрын

    A large part of why the 80's and 90's in particular are so over-glorified is because of the sudden shock that was 9/11 and the following recession (and, in more recent years, a rigged presidency and pandemic), we went from really optimistic media to a wave of mainstream grunge and dystopian fiction (we had a break with the massive wave of party culture in the early 2010's, but, again, like I mentioned earlier, we're kind of back to being terrified of the present and future). Like obviously there's a much healthier and realistic way to accurately weigh pre-2001 and post-2001 and how acutely these events actually affected the average USAmerican individual, but the concept isn't unfounded nor did it come out of a vacuum that we can whittle down to "just pure nostalgia". People did legitimately used to feel safer and more secure, so their memories and how they will process media from that era is going to be affected by that. Sorry for the USAmerican-centric response, it's what I have the most reference for, and the US's influence on the English-speaking internet is pretty large to begin with, so it's still, at least, relevant.

In 10-20 years you'll see a huge wave of nostalgia for 2000s and 2010s, because the time in which you were a child was the best time to be a child. There's a reason why so many movies about the 50s were made in the 70s and 80s.

    @@pferreira1983 "everything coming out during childhood good! everything coming out now bad!!" headass. There are *many* valid criciticisms to be had about how entertainment industries operate, but they're hardly different to any criciticisms that would have been just as valid 20-30 years ago, other than, say, the fact that Disney now owns like 80% of it. All this tells me is that you refuse to look past the mainstream in an era where accessing indie or otherwise "lesser-known" media is easier than ever. Go find a webseries, bandcamp musician, or indie movie that speaks to you the way corporations refuse to. This mentality is so regressive.

Not everything in a museum has to be a jaw dropping piece of art, sometimes we keep and showcase an old, ugly ass ceramic jar for the sole reason that it is old. History is composed of everything, good and bad, and having access to the good is just as important as having access to the bad. If anyone wants to study videogame history, playing a masterpiece from the 80's is just as valuable as playing a shitty game from the same year, for different reasons. Memories are such a precious thing and wanting to preserve them is not dumb or stupid. And I finally get why you started to post those types of videos, you weren’t nostalgic, you were stuck.

    Holy lord I watched this on the day of the release and waited till now to talk about how this video is completely under viewed. I get that youtube videos doing well can be like a roulette but it's crazy that I video like this is so underviewed compared to some low quality videos on this website that do well. Lastly I love these types of videos and the amount of effort you've put into the writing and editing is great :) (his short on beating cup head has more views than this )

    This was seriously awesome, I've been watching this channel for a few years at this point and I love to see it evolve and transform from nostalgic animation videos to nostalgia-based commentary videos to this, a super creative free-associative lecture about the nature of nostalgia itself. Making videos constantly for a long time like you have means developing and perfecting your style as you go is the name of the game, so I'm so happy to see it go in this direction. A hundred thumbs up from me 😀

    This is my favorite video of yours. I'm one of those that holds onto the past with a TIGHT grip, almost exclusively listening to older music, rewatching older movies (especially traditional animation), and playing childish old games like Club Penguin, Animal Jam, Roblox and Webkinz. I still have so much love for these things and there's nothing wrong with that, but your video inspired me to remember to try something new.

    you explained this perfectly. i often find myself coming back to things i enjoyed when i was little chasing the feeling that they gave me rather than the actual thing. i think that we choose to only remember the good parts of the past and we chase the unattainable perfect version of the past that we remember
