Are You Making Your Parrot Hormonal? | Parrot Hormone Triggers | TheParrotTeacher

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Hey cockatiel fans!
This video is the 3rd in my hormone series and looks at the most common triggers of parrot hormones in the home environment. If you haven't seen the other videos in the series, do check out the hormones play list!
While the title is a bit clickbaitey, it's important to remember we do play a role in both triggering and mitigating the effects of parrot hormones/hormonal behaviour. So it's important to be mindful of this.
Ultimately we don't like the results of hormonal behaviour, so if we can help prevent it then it's important we do.
As usual any questions, do let me know!

Super important video! A lot of people have good intentions but don't realise they're actually stimulating their birds!

Horus is so in love with himself i have to eliminate a lot of reflective surfaces. had to remove a mirror from my living room. have to make sure my phone is face down if im not using it. no stainless steel bowls. lol His self confidence and self love is something to be admired but it also makes him a little stinker butt. 🤣🤣🤣

Funny thing, when I just started a rehab process for my oldie AFG, he used to regurgitate on his stainless steel feeding bowl, this days I rarely leave empty bowls in my bird’s cage and I make sure that the bowl is sized appropriately to his meal (we used to use this bigger ones that comes with the cage where he had to basically dive head in to get his food, now we have one of these small bowls that people usually feed smaller birds with that you can screw to your cage, they’re perfectly sized for his meal proportion (I feel like you could get up to 7+ tbsp in there, he’s feeding in only 1-2 tbsp per meal) and he gets less hormonal with those. (though when he’s extra board/hormonal and I forget take his empty bowl out, he often tries to get the bowl out of its loop and bang it loudly on the bottom of his cage, I don’t necessarily love this behavior because it is loud and annoying but I have to admit that I understand why he’s finding entertainment/feeling satisfaction from venting his emotions and extra energy from this behavior, it is very clever of him LOL! Does anyone else has a parrot that has a similar behavior?)

Lol he definitely sounds like he enjoys the sound. It's funny how AG's enjoy making sounds like that! I've seen it a few times where they enjoy the sound or like many parrots dropping stuff!

It could be a phase or beaking, but it could also be that fingers aren't seen as something fun for them. It could also be a past training boo boo with regards to step up training (encouraging it by using the beak) You probably know the usual techniques, but making sure the treat is above and behind the step up so the conure's attention is focused there may help along with soft targeting and getting them used to just not biting fingers lol

@@willb6426 definitely no I’m afraid! Really not best for a parrot even if the list does read better! We feel that pellets aren’t essential anyway!
