You can use 0.10-0.12 braid for hook length if it is allowed. Have a speedy recovery Den!

You need to chuck the feeder in the tank full off water with force, as a lot of the time the feeders lose a lot of pellets/groundbait on impact, so you need to be really put the pressure on so you don't lose most of the feed. Finding a soft supple line also helps, like prestons Reflo Power, i find middy low viz is quite supple too, or braid if allowed.

It is a pretty good presentation ! In fact where casting with a strong force, deeper water, especially with present of many small fish, it will vary a lot. Thank you Den ❤

Thanks Peter. I did think about braid hooklengths but, personally, I don't use them and they are banned in many UK waters where most of my viewers live. As a guess the softness of the material would allow the hooklength to sit inside the feeder without being pulled out so easily.

Den have you seen the new feeder that Map have released? Available from April onwards. Has a little bit of split rubber at the bottom of the feeder. Holds your hook link in place, until the fish takes the bait. I think it's going to be a game changer, less fiddly than the guru one and line clip. Especially those of us that can be a bit fingers and thumbs...Or is that just me... Great video thanks for all your help 👍

Korum camo interchangeable range employ a similar feature (also on their grub feeders)

Nice illustration Den, I use a supple hook link to help it not spring off but I will try loading my feeders as you did at the end of the trial hopefully will improve my catch rate. Thanks for that Den.

Food for thought and I'll be doing it differently now. One thing with putting the bait/hook onto the feeder is the danger of the hook catching on the feeder. Smaller hooks as you use may help here but 12's and 10's as I sometimes use sometimes come back hooked to the feeder. The feeders with definite space/platform for bait help here as do hybrid/banjo types. Shorter hook lengths will be even springier. I tend to use a split ring on my hook lengths to help combat the line spring. One place I fish bans Method feeders (quite rightly in this case) because of the Catfish which can ingest the whole rig.

You're right Colin. There is a possibility of the hook catching in the Feeder. That's why in my own 3D Printed Feeders, I don't make the hollow hoops. My hoops are all solid. I was using the manufactured feeders in the demo because that is what most anglers will have. All of my own feeders are homemade 3D Printed versions and they are quite a bit larger. That leaves me more space for larger hooks and longer hairs if I need them. You're also correct about Hybrid Feeders. They do overcome the issue of hook hang ups.😁👍

@@FishingwithDen It would be interesting to see if a double loaded Method feeder dispersed its contents enough for the bait to still sit in it as it falls off. From other underwater videos of hybrid feeders keeping the bait in/on the feeder i.e. bait covered by ground-bait rather than on top seems paramount.

Very interesting. I've noticed one or two uk experts are using 3 inch hook lengths, not the usual 4 inch. Perhaps that's to address the issue with the line springing out the bait from the feeder. I've just had a thought about this, and perhaps amnesia clear memory free line might be an effective hook length material if braid isn't allowed. I seem to recall it's available in 6 and 8 lb clear. Food for thought, perhaps.

I have never used a method feeder, but don't you find that with sweetcorn, the bait is partially crushed and tends to come off the hook? Good news all is OK with your back, a common problem in Australia unfortunately.

That used to be something I worried about too Christopher, but I use it on a Hair Rig and it seems to survive OK. As for my back, yes, it is a very common thing down here, but its better to be sure I suppose.

Great vid Den ! Many have flung on the market methods with hinges and stuff. The latest being MAP Embed with rounded bottom and stuff (conic bottom holes that in theory loosen the groundbait out when touching the bottom but the highest water pressure is on impact), it seems deeply flawed until tested by real anglers. As for line springiness, try other brands or hinge (quick change beads sitting out of the method tube properly aligned work for me, also with a bigger loop on the hooklength so that the spring part is not the double line of the loop).

Hi Ovidiu. Another viewer just mentioned the new MAP feeder. I gather you are not impressed by it. As for the line springiness, I thought I mentioned the fact that a quick change bead would help. maybe I didn't explain it right?

@@FishingwithDen About the MAP I am not impressed from design and what I have seen on the internet. They are not out on the market yet, at least not outside UK. You are right about the quick change but I have not explained correctly myself :). A quickchange that almost pinches the line of the loop, setting the whole hooklenght backwards towards the method from the start :).

And another hack that I have seen is cutting a thin notch on the lip of the method feeder, sliding a small float stopper on the hooklength about halfway and jamming the stopper in the notch.

I do too Paul. I used the 4" to demonstrate, because that has traditionally been the length a lot of people use. As I mentioned below, I think there's lots of room for more experimenting on this one mate. As for the stitches, we have to have annual skin cancer checks down here because of the UV light. The Doctor thought I might have the beginnings of a Basal Cell Carcinoma, so after originally taking a Biopsy, which came back as unclear, he cut further into my back to ensure that he removed any possible cancer cells. I got the stitches out this morning and luckily, all is good. Thanks for asking.👍👍

Went fishing with two mates in the cold and snow (we must be mad) Caught a decent Roach and a Goldfish on the 3d printed feeder with a Fjuka pop up. I have not always had a lot of luck with the moulds and hand tighten my mix. I always put a base mix and then my bait in the middle then a top mix over that. Was nice to see it in action as you can only hope it is well presented? Hope the stiches are out soon.
