I had my FUT about 10 years ago by Dr. McGrath. I have only one regret: I should have gone just a bit lower. The pain and recovery were minimal. The team was excellent. If you look at my hair now, at age 59, you would be amazed at how much I have; but, I may go back in to touch things up--if Dr. Mcgrath and Steve think it could help. I'm fortunate as I have great donor hair; I'm taking finasteride/oral minoxidil in pill form for maintenance and that combo works well for me. So far, no side effects to note.

For a novice I recommend at least one year as a minimum to do their research. Look at forum’s. Look at patient results (not those solely put out by clinics). Be prepared to travel. If you are a Norwood 6/7 then you need to look at surgeons like Dr Pittella, Dr Zarev, Dr Sethi, etc. Do not base a surgery on price because it’s cheap or location because it’s only 30 minutes from home. Be prepared for multiple surgeries over the lifespan and medication for life. And remember that if you can live with a shaved head you have won. Period.

There are many “boards”, and most of them you just pay a fee to join. The only one that tests surgeons on their hair transplant knowledge and abilities is the ABHRS (American Board of hair restoration surgeons). I doubt your surgeon was a member.

I removed my scabs on day 10 after hair transplant and I am afraid I did a bit early. After 17 days I noticed some empty patches where there wasn’t hair (but there is incision). Is it possible that I dislodged some hairs?

Honestly, I don't think going a little lower with your first transplant is a bad thing. Look at it this way. I want to get FUT so the back of my head is going to have one linear scar. If I go lower with my HT and I happen to lose all of my hair or get a diffuse thinking, I can always get a small FUE to cover my donor scar from FUT and just shave it off. With a lower hairline and those dots you have before your hair grows out, I will look like a guy who has a pretty nice hair but shaves his head off of aesthetic reasons. Yes, I would need to shave it every 2-3 days so that it doesnt get noticable that I am balding af, but you need to do that if you are bald anyway. So I don't really see it as a bad thing. I wanna go lower by 0.5 cm which is nothing, that's like 150 grafts more while it will look noticeable better. It is worth the risk. Of course, having a 2 inch forehead is silly :D

I'm assuming Joe Rogan is who Steve is talking about. I'm doing my homework, and I'm still struggling with whether I should get the procedure done or not, and who to pick if I do. Also, don't really want FUT, but many say it's the best way to go. Very confusing.

Having a full head of hair is fine. Having a wall of hair that does not show scalp or have a natural feathered in look is totally unnatural . Moreover the natural hair behind the transplanted hair will continue to thin and you only have so many donor sites. Look at Kevin Costner transplant. Natural and not this unnatural linear look. A transplanted wall of frontal hair on an aging or aged face looks as natural as perky breast implants or jet black hair on a 65 year old woman

re Brett Maverick transplant totally disagree with the PREVIOUS surgeon and agree w this guy from Lock Lab. my friend is a world renowned hair transplant surgeon...wrote books on it.... Here is the problem with Brett's hair transplant - his hairline is now a virtual wall of hair Much too dense and as he ages will look very unnatural and even cause some to think he has a toupee…NOT the look you want - Brett should have done micro grafts that would feather from front to back and look much more natural. - the donor sites where the hair was harvested now are depleted. Should his hair continue to thin and it will ….he will have a very unnatural aesthetic - i certainly applaud his public testimony on a very private issue however as his face ages this dense wall of frontal hair will look very unnatural. There is a natural progression in an aging male face where less is more. Here we have much more than necessary. Ok for 26 but will look weird as the decades go on - the scalp now will have ‘corners’ on both the right and left side due to the transplant. If you were to feel the transplanted areas with your fingers you will notice a discernible ridge line that can feel weird. Think Frankenstein flat head with curvature on the sides … again this is due to the replanted grafts and scar tissue and initial swelling. - the texture and growth pattern of the transplanted hair may be quite different t from the hair that was in front and which fell out. Again only in the hands of a very trained surgeon is this considered - less is more and natural. just as in overfilled lips or face a dense uninterrupted and un feathered hairline looks ‘done’ or contrived

Lol at people say having a full head of hair looks unnatural when you’re older. It literally occurs in nature, does xi jingping’s hair look unnatural? Did Ronald Reagans hair look unnatural? Did abdulmanap nurmagamedov’s hair look unnatural? No, and they had no surgeries. If a dense low hairline is done by a surgeon who knows what they’re doing it won’t look unnatural, regardless of age

@@johns8819 you have a good point. I work with guys who are 60+ years old with thick, full heads of hair, and it doesn't look unnatural at all. I'm actually jealous of them.
