    I'm surprised Linus didn't mention how restrictive to airflow the glass front panel is. That kind of stuff cooks your processor.

  • @vincentwu2848

    @vincentwu2848

    Жыл бұрын

    He did mention that the front fans intake air through unfiltered side vents. Side vents are a pretty common feature on a lot of nice atx cases, and having filtered vents is even more restrictive to airflow but will not necessarily cause components to overheat. Its probably not true that true that the processor is getting cooked on the system in the video because he made no mention of thermal throttling in any of the tests.

    Yea i used to have a case nearly identical to that walmart one - looks nice but my GPU was literally cooking inside there. Got a lian li airflow case and my CPU/GPU sit in the mid 50s-60s now. Granted it does need a clean, though.....

    First of all, why yes he did. Second of all, what else impresses me about this is the fact when I saw it, and even I didn't actually know half as much about computers as I thought I did, which itself I didn't think I knew all that much anyway, even back then I remember seeing this and beginning to think like "wow, isn't, is that...are you actually SUPPOSED TO hold up a GPU with the cable like that??" I mean even in my retarded ass brain I could tell very easily and this is weird thinking about that was back in Pascal era (it's strange how far away that is now) that having a fucking USB 3 cable as the GPU support is just retarded and looks wrong. THAT is why they put hot glue on it. It's because it was actually meant to be a GPU bracket. Which, unlike piece of shit companies like Dell, they had been way too cheap to actually put a GPU bracket anywhere in there. And this is from the company which itself built the stupid thing on zero airflow industrial office shitcases on the inside but like a Necron Flayed One is wearing the skin of its slain enemies on the outside, having the "Alienware" hide to more or less sell exclusively based on looks and appearances. Which is pretty much what the entire Overpowered strategy was, just make it look nice enough someone will stupidly buy it. They had a, I can't remember I think it was Cyberpower that had the cheapest shittiest goddamn board ever, it had ONE stick of RAM on exactly that kind of crapboard as the Overpowered, it had a shittastic alleged "RTX" 3050ti in it, and it cost a whopping $1200. Meanwhile there was a very nice $800 Ibuypower that had RX 6700 in it and two sticks of RAM both Trident no less on an OK motherboard with actual VRM heatsinks (the shitty Cyberpower didn't even bother, there's no good CPU going in the RTX one). It to this day completely blows my mind that the far better machine which looked better, was built better, performed better and it only cost two thirds of the Cyberpower shitbox, so much so the $800 PC literally gets better raytreacing with the RX 6700, yet Walmart stuffed the thing in the back next to a piece of crap HP office machine and left the shittier more expensive 3050ti shitbox on display.

    Hey dude, it's not bad for the price, he gave some completely useless criticisms that have no impact on anything. For example, he talks about them partitioning the hard drives, that has no impact. He talks about there only being USB 3.0 ports on the back, which has no *real* impact. He criticized the onboard graphics even though your system is running off the GPU, so that HAS NO IMPACT. Just a bunch of garbage and overly critical commentary from someone trying to get views. In the end, do not worry, just put a dust cover on and *you have a good pc* . Edit: the hot glue crap also has no impact

  • @ThePopeSong

    @ThePopeSong

    I mean, its' common sense (no offense, genuinely) that a blocked filter won't act as efficient as a clean one, though generally they still offer airflow around the center where the fan is. However, depending on your house/office, you could leave a PC for a couple years and not touch it and you might have no problems, nor notice a thing, because the dust filter is doing it's job. It won't be as efficient and those who pay close attention to temperatures etc will see the difference.

    I came to the United States (early 2000) for a visit and wanted to buy some Post Cards (18 Individual Cards) from Walmart. I went to the checkout and the Mexican lady tried to count the cards. She usually got up to four or five in English and then started again. After a few minutes of this repeat exercise, I got frustrated and counted them out for her! She then took them back off me and started to count them out again. I just looked at my wife and laughed and walked out without the cards. A bit rude of me I know, but heh when I employ staff, I make sure that they can speak English and count......……….. the majority of our customers speak English and therefore English is a must for any employee. Where I was in the USA the majority of the customers would have been able to speak and have as a first language English...…...… so a very crazy situation for a person dealing with customers on a till. Most def I would not purchase a Gaming PC from Walmart! lol

    You must not be familiar with Dell business practices from the late 90s and early 2000s. All integrators have done this for decades because on paper the machine specs look good but the unlisted components are generally garbage. As an example, I was at a staples and asked what the speed of the RAM in a particular system was. The guy said "says right here it's 16GB DDR4"... That's all they put on the spec list. They don't tell you because it might be single stick, single channel 2400MHz going into your Zen 2 system instead of the appropriate 3200MHz+ dual channels kits on the QVL for the motherboard, if those bargain basement motherboards even have a QVL.

    Turbo buttons had an important purpose - though sometimes systems were built using cases with turbo buttons but which didn't utilize it. When 286 was king, games were written for the clock speed specifically. When 486s were released, games played on it would run far too fast. The name "turbo button" was of course a marketing gimmick, but it's one that made sense. Putting a "slow mode" button on there would sound ridiculous to most consumers.

At least the guy from the verge used the rubber grommets to avoid shorting out the power supply, added extra thermal paste to the amount already included with the cooler to improve temperatures, used the slower PCI-E slot for the graphics card to keep the center of gravity lower and used the guide to place the CPU into the socket. Oh, and also the guy left all the cables inside the case instead of tucking them behind the motherboard tray, so that the airflow can help keep them cool.
