Walmart Gaming PC: How to Do Everything Wrong | Overpowered DTW3

Ойындар

We bought the Walmart Overpowered DTW3 gaming PC to tear it down and review it. Unfortunately, Walmart shipped us about half the computer we paid for.

Article: www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/3401-walmart-gaming-pc-overpowered-dtw3-not-worth-it-review
We're answering the question of "is the Walmart gaming PC worth it?" with this video, but also, the answer is "no." Especially because they sold us a different PC than the one we got, but maybe that's just a logistical thing. Regardless, the internal components deserve analysis and discussion, as does the build quality and quality of assembly. The Walmart DTW3, DTW2, and DTW1 machines were already clearly overpriced, even for a system integrator, but it gets worse the more we dig into it. This is the kind of machine that a parent buys for their kid to play Fortnite, and Walmart still manages to screw it up.
And if this pushes you to build your own system instead, we're here to help. Try starting with our Best CPUs of 2018 guide: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hneszMp-faq0iqg.html

Just checked the motherboard, of course it is the single cheapest motherboard gigabyte makes on the platform. It has an amazing 3+1 phase vrm without a heatsink. It only supports vga out (this may actually be a blessing as it may prevent people from accidentally plugging the monitor into the igp instead of the gpu) I wonder what it will do under a combined gpu+cpu torture workload. I wouldn't be surprised if it actually catches fire.

Walmarts PC stands head and shoulders over Dells offerings. You'll never get everyone to agree on anything, but however the entire PC world came together and looked down upon Dell and said in unison "wow, what a piece of shit." But at the same time being better than Dell doesn't really say much. Thats like saying "oh yes, ill take harpies instead of genital warts." Both suck, stay away from slutty PC manufacturers.

Not really, Dell puts higher quality components in their computers than this walmart computer. Dell's biggest issue is that they insist on using the same damn case they've been using forever even though space and heat dissipation requirements have gone up a lot. So you end up with things like the Alienware towers that have decent components that get throttled due to heat.

I sorta kinda liked how those looked. I think they'd really look "fancy" to most people. I disagree on dust filters for non-enthusiasts because they require regular cleaning. What will happen is they will plug up and everything will cook. I've gone back and forth on dust filters. I like how clean it keeps the inside, but, in my experience, you still get that "fine" dust everywhere which is he dust that is harder to remove.

Not surprising, but not limited to Walmart. I ordered an I-7 laptop from Toshiba (back when they still made gaming laptops) with all the added extras (more memory, bigger SSD, better DVD-RW)... when it arrived, the sticker said "Intel I-3 Inside". Customer support had no idea what the difference was between an I-3 and an I-7. Argued with them for hours, finally got them to give me a refund and when I checked the amount they refunded me a couple days later realized they charged me a "restocking fee" because it was custom ordered. - . - Another hour on the phone and I finally got the rest of my money back. This was the 4th (and last) time I bought a laptop from them.

Walmart is serving as the storefront for these Chinese PCs. That's it. They certainly aren't building them and they aren't even shipping them. They are coming straight from China and the drop shipper will have whatever stock they have. So Walmart shouldn't be in bed with these people but I'm also sure they will correct it. They need to find a better partner, which will be tough. Why Walmart has not devoted an aisle in their electronics section to PC components is beyond me. And if they then wanted to hire a dozen people to work in back putting these things together to sell in-store then that would be far better than this. They have a massive leg-up on the competiton by having the storefront presence they have. While the few remaining computer stores like Microcenter offer the same, being able to walk into a Walmart and buy a good gaming PC off the shelf that you can see with your own two eyes, and not having to wait, would be attractive to some people.

@@RJT80 a dozen people? nah walmart would pay at most 2 to 3 people and have them come in 1-2 times a week and make them build 20 in 6 hours

I mean it was a mistake that they're owning up to and sending the right product, so i don't know why you came to that conclusion

Hearing about that garbage motherboard's bandwidth gave me flashbacks to the 486SLC2 chips. There were some REALLY weird 386 and 486 chips.
