TRUE CRIME PLAYLIST: • True Crime Body Language
This is a one in a million chance to have 4 of the world's top body language experts tell you EXACTLY what they're doing to get this type of information. If you are interested in body language, out of all the videos The Behavior Panel has done up to this point, THIS is the one to watch.
Keep in mind, this is not the normal format of The Behavior Panel’s videos. They did this one just for themselves because they wanted to know what really happened on that night in 1969.
The Behavior Panel comprises the world's top body language and behavior experts: Scott Rouse, Mark Bowden, Chase Hughes, and Greg Hartley. They analyze behavior and body language in videos of public interest. This non-partisan group aims to educate and entertain, focusing on nonverbal communication, deception detection, behavioral analysis, statement analysis, interrogation, and resistance to interrogation. Through careful examination of gestures, expressions, linguistics, and cultural context, they reveal truths and deceptions. The Behavior Panel is prominently featured on The Dr. Phil Show and has its own show on the US TV Network, Merit Street Media.
Thanks for watching!

One thing I'd like to point out, about the issue of how Thom and his mom felt at the time... if they had been given some kind of mind/mood altering drug, then it might make sense that those elements are a little foggy... just a thought. Maybe it was intended for them to feel privileged as opposed to frightened. And maybe he speaks about being afraid, then not afraid, because he had tried to run away, and had to be placed back into the room. Is that accurate? Anyhoo... maybe they gave him something to increase compliance.

I haven’t looked through the comments enough- but what I get from his fear switch to awe & intrigue feels like a parental soothing repetition. I sensed he was actually afraid and traumatized, but the collective family story was to relieve the boys’ fears by renaming it as a gift, luck, special that they wanted to meet you that night? Stressing his personal value and serendipity of his perceived experience OVER his initial feelings of “scary, disturbing, creatures” that he has learned to stuff and soothe into “brave boy, lucky, unique, gifted”. At some point he described it as wrong place wrong time, but his mum describes it as the right place at the right time. Those two descriptions were exactly what I saw and felt in the fear and trauma vs. mesmerized with awe and a part of something massive and inclusive. I think his mum did a good job of “recording over” all the negatives with positives. No judgement- id likely do the same, but he’s definitely still holding/carrying the “secrets”, of his fear and personal experience with him, and allowing the happier collective story to shine.

Yes. Because any child that is shocked, taken, examined (you know what I mean), anesthetized, then kerplunked back down where you stole him from... is gonna feel some kind of traumatized way about it. Regardless of how much a parental figure pushes a dynamic or agenda of providence or serendipity 🙄 And the fact that the govt pushed him to not talk about parts of what happened because it could be interpreted as salacious or "tabloid".... along w his mother/family's rhetoric... has clearly caused Thom a lifetime of angst and inner turmoil. Mom (conveniently) doesn't have the memories her boys have. Maybe because they didn't take/weren't interested in her. Or she just has a much better self-denial machine in her mind. I bet Thom didn't feel so "lucky" to have gone through this nightmare as a 9 yr old child. This was very evident in many parts of the Part I video.

it is complex and you are totally right he is telling something he remembers but also knows is fantastical but its important and he wants to tell you but is afraid of it too AND the added anxiety that what if it was something "making" you see something - drugs, gas - so is a complex look BUT its part of what he remembers so its really important... and! yet its all fantastical so the anxiety and fear and excitment are central to the whole thing.. namely talking about what is expected to be only found in the fiction section. its like you have been given an insider experiance but you dont really know what happened and doubt is available in spades yet the experiance remains. your left puzzled to put it mildly but also responsible because it happened and well it makes a guilt worry sort of thing about it all. like if somethings not supposed to be real yet you saw that then it has to be evaluated the same as all the rest of your life but it also forces or opens up this eyes or perspective where some things now if your being fair have to be given consideration - things that are not publicly widely up for consideration. social implications are inherant. because both on the personal and the social knowledge / social standing and connections but its the astounding bit.. that the things seen are yes singular life changing but also actual world changing... what if you had seen things that change life. like i saw a mountain lion in my country where they are offically said not to be. so i know some of the truth of a contraversial subject. one where the official line is no big cats. the general thought is maybe people are lying or making a fool of others. yet i know there was a mountain lion as i saw it. loads of people also have seen them. i only know the cat i saw. so when something even more fantastical is seen and is really really in the realms of fiction not just unusual but fantastical. its the same. it happened. you cant unhappen it. you still have to live. eat breakfast.. but you live with this alter knowledge. its included in your poderings on life. k x x

Curious to know what you guys think about this: As a mother , and he and his brother were with mum and grandma, if my child was afraid/fearful of what they had seen/experienced, no matter how scared I may be feeling, I would be inclined to reassure without denying the events. So, I might say well it was beautiful/awe-inspiring, how lucky were we to see that "ball". Thus, he may have suppressed his fear or at least talking about it in order to function in his social community. It is, then and now, more difficult for boys to express fear/vulnerability. I agree with you all that he comes across as someone who is largely telling the truth of what he experienced. Great channel by the way.

Yes, I was thinking along the same lines! The language he uses, at the end, to describe his feelings are copying what his mom said in her interview. In the beginning he talked about having confused feelings on why but tried running from the room with the table. There's some group beliefs ingrained around feelings. It could stem from the mom trying to reassure them that they don't need to be afraid because as she mentioned, no one was harmed. But I doubt that bit because Thom obviously didn't want to talk about what happened in that room. It was very interesting to hear Thom's experience and everyone's analysis!

Thom, if you see this, thank you for coming on the show and sharing your story. Between your willingness to come on here and have these guys interview you, and your behavior during said interview, I think it's safe to say: you're confident in what you experienced. The times I felt fear from you, it felt more like fear "armor" knowing how people may receive the story now, or have in the past. The times the story felt embellished, felt like a result of time passed and the re-hashing of something huge that happened decades ago in a group, and you were just a kid. I've seen some truly suspicious interviews with people that claim they've seen "something," and yours is one of the most genuine I've seen. I also experienced something years ago and like you, I can't describe what it was, only what I witnessed: In 2009 I was living in Upstate NY and a couple of friends and myself were there to see it. It was an intensely bright round light high in the sky. (During the day. Not as bright as the sun and with more defined edges) It was about the size of a fingernail if you were to hold your hand up to the sky and compare sizes, yet the light was clearly very far from us. It sort of wobbled in one spot for a second, then it darted across the sky to the right (about two hand widths, sticking with the hand up to the sky measurment) and then back up and to the left twice as far, then down just a little, and then it went straight into space. Not "up" like the first directional movements being "right, left, and down," not curved like a rocket launching looks like- it went *straight,* or radially away from us into space. It shrunk as it moved farther and farther away until it was just a pin prick of light. The first movements lasted less than a few seconds, but the disappearing light lasted minutes. We watched it until the light faded into a tiny dot and disappeared, and then we all stood there looking up in shock and wonder for what had to be another minute or two. All of us concur we saw the exact same thing and we all agree it behaved unlike any technology that exists on our planet.

In 1977 I was 12 and had just gone to bed when my grandpap came in and said some of the cows didn’t come in and told me to go up to the back pasture and chase them down. I went out to find them, there was a bright moon so I didn’t even need the flashlight and I couldn’t find them (88 acres of pasture). On one hill I saw what looked like a bonfire and I thought how would there be a fire in the middle of open field? I went a little closer and it wasn’t fire but looked like a big circle of fire probably three cars wide. There was no sound and I was so scared I ran back to the house. I tried to tell pap but he was very old school and no nonsense and was just annoyed because I didn’t bring cows in. The next day I went up and there was no mark at all on the ground so there couldn’t have been fire. I’m 58 now and have never forgotten. PS the cows were fine. And I don’t believe in aliens still, just would love to know what it was.

That would be very interesting. It's hard to believe he shot at the door knowing she was behind it and that he could wound or even possibly kill her. If he did shoot deliberately, knowing full well that it was her, what would have happened if he'd opened the door and found her still alive and able to identify him as the shooter? If he did shoot knowing it was her he would have had no idea where his shots would land or if his shots would kill her. In other words he would have been at 100% risk of being identified if she had lived. And considering he was shooting blind at a door there was every chance in the moment that she might NOT have been hit and instead left alive to tell the tale. I can't believe he would fire at the door knowing that she could survive and dob him in. I think his ego was too huge for him to ever do anything to jeopardize himself where he could end up in court or jail. I think it's more that he was cowardly and fired off at the door thinking there was an intruder in there. I think he was terrified and lost the plot. However, we may never know the truth.

I also wanted to hear from Thom’s mum what her mother’s interpretation of what happened was. They must have asked her if she tried to wake them, did she think they were dead? Clearly, she was scared, turning the car around and heading back to the presumably only open store in town. Did she explain why she walked past the cashier and pretended to be looking at bikes and strollers b/c she realized they’d think she’d lost her mind. What did Grandma say to her daughter when they walked out of the store and she was standing outside of the car? Also, if Thom was asleep all the way back into town, how did he know Grandma had been driving? Was he afraid when mom was not waking up? Did he follow grandma into the store out of fear? Did he “know” the others were asleep; or did he fear they were dead? When he woke up, did he immediately remember what he had experienced and his “journey” during the missing time; or did the memories come back in bits and pieces like a dream, etc.?

  • @BerniceWonderdog

it was the grand mother, she left as no one else in the car was conscious. I can understand her survival mechanism kicked in sufficient to get them back to civilization and protection, but on getting to the store was in shock. So she goes from pretty focused rational action to irrational, but maybe that's consistent with being in shock.

Hi Guys, loved this program. Interesting from beginning to end. I learn so much from all of you all the time. Chase, the part about how we can alter a memory every time we touch it, is fascinating. I will be sharing this with my family. It’s also possible to be mistaken about something, but believe it to be true, and then cement it in our memories as truth. These ideas have helped me let go of things in the past that might have been incorrect and has helped me to forgive and move on. Mark, I’m a teacher and I love the way you think, and how you bring so many other elements into your analyst. The idea of this memory of Tom’s having a connection with the frightening experience he had as a child is thought provoking. The connection of the disappointing brown ribbon, his school drawing,, and the rendering of “the grey” and where is is hanging now, was inspired. I have to go out and buy some of your books now. Guys I love the idea of covering your mouth in an interview to let the other person know they are free to speak and tell their story. I will use that. Thanks again.

Chase asked him about how the animals reacted to him after the experience....he called his mother to answer ....then the conversation went in another direction......but Chase never got an answer about how the animals reacted to him....meaning did the experience change him somehow and the animals sense it.....he talked about a raccoon coming in the house...but never talked about the horses....and did they change towards him.

I could totally see what Mark analyzed in Thom. This was so interesting. @Alex Atreides Do you think it was a horse accident and he just went to the hospital and something happened to him there? What I didn’t get in the story was how he was describing himself falling off the horse and a hand grabbing him? Sounds like something supernatural. His mom wouldn’t be running alongside the horse or anyone else for that matter and be able to just lift him back on it unless he was riding a miniature horse. …Or they did actually drive over the bridge in their car as a family and witness something (whatever that something may be)?

I disagree. He is nodding in agreement and says excellent after Marks first talk ( see at @9:50 ). Then again, their second segments if you watch from @20:15 again Scott is reactive and pleasant expression, nods softly, ends with "excellent, wonderful". His reactions to all the guys is sometimes relatively blank and sometimes expressive. I think all of them often try to hold back their reactions sometimes while the others are talking ( look a bit neutral, not detract from speaker ) but other times they nod and even chime in. In this video Mark was getting pretty deep into cultural psychology/archetypes kind of stuff and I just got the feeling that the others were just really thinking about what he was saying in terms of how it applied to Thom. I have so many comments about this, so I could go on forever. Great, great video as always - it is interesting to see you guys really holding back because he's a nice guy and this isn't a crime interrogation. One thing that struck me - is there a link between the bug and the horses? Think of the similarities: the bug has a football shaped head with the points at back and front. A horses head is long too, with the depth longer than the width too. The bug's limbs are like bamboo, I'm thinking he means the joints are like the joint like markers on a bamboo. Horses have long, slim legs with narrow joints too. Bugs had eyes like marbles, horses have beautiful dark but shiny eyes too. This could be a supreme reach but then I have a vivid imagination and I can mindmap most visuals into something else 😏
