As a person who likes to find patterns and categorize things, I really enjoyed this video. Now that I think about it I have also noticed those archetypes and I have the impression that the first two may be the most represented ones in media.

Yes, and I think you’re right!! They are shown so much in the media, and there’s really almost no depiction of other “archetypes” in autism. Would love to see more representation in the future though!

I really like the idea of archetypes more than clinical subsets of autism!

My autistic buds and I once created a list of our categories, focused on the autistic female archetypes. It was a good time. Then we started discussing the common crossovers/combo types. I always find your channel so cozy. Watching one of your videos is always a nice little treat.

Wow!! I definitely felt like this was something only I noticed, yet I’m seeing I’m not alone at all. It’s extremely refreshing to know that so many of us have noticed the differences in how we behave as autistics!! And thank you so much!! It makes me smile to know people find my videos comforting 🤎🧸

i've come to understand autism as "a condition of extremes," so like what you're noticing, there's autistic people who are either very bright or very muted, etc etc,

Great video, I'm a white British/Sicilian guy with Autism and, honestly, even I don't feel represented or related to in 99% of the portrayals of autistic people in media. So this is bang on the money.

My brain likes the categories 😅 I'm definitely the quiet, low-energy archetype, if I were to categorize myself. I also think there's the archetype of fantasy/sci-fi nerd (different to a science/technology nerd), which I fit into very neatly. My current special interest is the show Good Omens ❤

This is such an interesting topic to cover, so great job, Aneva! Have you ever done the 16Personalities test? Your video reminded me of that website and the results I got, which I really relate to.

Yes I have!! We learned about them in high school and I took it myself again recently. I’m still studying how these things work, but they’re sooo fascinating!!

I think of all the archetypes I’m closest to the first one. I’m white and almost all my special interests have related to science. The only difference is I’m a woman.

Totally possible! I had more traditional signs of autism, with interests and features more commonly seen in autistic males

The big defining features of that archetype are the combination of low masking, reasonably low support needs, and high intelligence. I think it's the female tendency towards higher-masking presentations that tends to make it mostly a male archetype: there tends to be a cultural clash between this archetype and individuals with higher-masking presentations, especially if everyone involved is undiagnosed, and that tends to drive away a lot of women that would otherwise land in this archetype.
