I bought my own battery based system and installed it myself and pulled a permit as an owner builder. I paid about $12,000 for everything (4 kW PV, 8 kW inverter, 16 kWh battery) and the system is currently saving me almost $3000 per year operating in self consumption mode which by nature also works perfectly with California's time of use rates because my battery is full at the end of the day when peak TOU kicks in. And I took a 30% tax credit on the $12,000. Payback period 2.8 years! Hiring a contractor this system would've cost about $20,000 installed. I say don't do it yourself unless you have solid electrical mechanical skills.

Is there any info on the PointGuard V2X DC EV chargeing module? Their website is very sparse with info... Maybe you could have a rep on to talk about the pointguard hone aystem and V2X EV charger module.

Hi there. The PointGuard V2X DC EV charging module is not yet available in the US. It will be launched later this year. More information will be available closer to launch time. Since it is very easy to add the V2X DC EV charger at a later time, you have the option to install your solar plus storage system today and have your installer come back to add the DC charger by simply adding it to the PointGuard Home stack.

My utility is IID (Imperial Irrigation District) which has two digital meters on my home with 7kWh solar. Electric rate is about $0.2409 (generation + taxes and fees) per kWh for total usage and I get a monthly credit of $0.0698 for my Net Generation. This shows I would benefit by using my solar generation and avoid the grid as much as possible. Saving money is good but it is not my priority. My IID service had 11 black outs last year and this year I have already had two. I have two EVs in my garage with over 190kWh of batteries. Why buy another battery? I'm hearing more and more talk of EV OEMs offering V2H two way charging. GM and Ford offer it now, Kia is coming out with solution later this year. I would like to see why EV owners should buy another battery, seems a waste of resources and money. What is the benefit of a separate battery vs EV owner using V2H?

I live in southern California and I'm in the SCE time of use rate, basically I pay more per kilowatt (4:00 to 9:00 PM) they credit me per kilowatt. I have an older solar system 5.7 KWH system. I looked at a battery backup system and the cost was so expensive (installed) my ROI would be about 15 + years. I would seriously consider if my ROI was 8 years or less

Well I would say definitely don't do it because you don't know the difference between a kilowatt and a kilowatt hour! So even if the payback was good you still wouldn't have enough education to actually do the math! 😂😂😂😂😂😂

The last thing you'd want when using Solar Power is a "Solar" surge!

I wouldn’t take Solar panels for FREE, till they are at Least 85% Efficient, BUT, I’ll Definitely be Buying Solar Batteries, that can be Kept Charged by the Grid and a Propane Generator. Things that can keep them Fully Charging at All Times, on the Farm, and have the Resources to Keep them Going. …They Definitely have their Place.
