As a SWS fan who also listens enjoys some pop music, they didn’t lose my interest after switching up their sound. (Reminds me a lot of panic at the disco’s change) but I will say, their first few albums were 100% their best work.

Found you through looking up what the hell happened to Bryan stars while looking back at old things I used to watch or listen to. But now I've watched a bunch of your videos. I love your perspectives and well researched / planned knowledge of the topics you talk about. Will be continuing to keep up with your content moving forward. I agree with all your points, especially with Feel. Personally, PERSONALLY... I had been a huge fan for years. They lost my interest after Maddness- I don't resent them for that though. I see their new sound as... just evolution. It's not my sound, but I still respect what their doing. I'll just sit back and lavish in my teen years encompassed by their early years. And I'm okay with that ❤❤

I think a BIG part of why they were a fluke was that some of the songs from their first songs had stolen music from unsigned bands they toured with the year before the With Ears To See album. For starters, they toured in 2010 and played with Serra Velle. Serra Velle released a song titled “Victorious Secret” in 2009 (it’s easy to find on KZread), and had toured with the song for at least a year before playing a show with SWS, who didn’t release “If You Can’t Hang” until 2011 after Serra Velle split off into other projects. Check both out. It’s sus as hell.

One thing I realize now that I'm older it's that they are not really a band that connects with fans. Most fans have said that Kellin treated them bad in m&g, also, their videos don't show scenes for teenagers to relate to. There was this song called Better of dead which really showed how much they exploded the whole concept of "suicidal teen", but when the music came out it was about an abandoned house and the main character was a grown up woman with tons of plastic surgeries, just a generic Instagram girl, not that it's bad to be that, but it just shows how they can write a song but they don't have the hability to express it in a video. None of the videos they have publishes say something. They are a very plane, boring and comercial. They really sucks.

Kris Crummet is the reason Sleeping With Sirens had an amazing album. Also worth noting Crummet who porduces most Dance Gavin Dance albums. Crummet was the secret ingredient. Also interesting DGD has dissed sleeping with sirens on the song demo team and that Kellin Quinn once auditioned to be the new lead singer of DGD after they kicked out Johnny Craig the first time.

Crummet is one of my favorite producers . Really helped so many bands develop their own sound without being cookie cutter like Joey Sturgis ended up becoming. I love Joey’s work as well it’s just he stuck with the same template for every band. Crummet has a much more diverse catalogue of sounds and bands.

This was awesome! Great channel man! I actually met Kellin way before he started sleeping with sirens. As far as I know he lived in Medford, Oregon and was in an acoustic band he named Closer2Closure. He did vocals (obviously) and the acoustic guitar was played by a guy named Titus. If you guys haven’t checked out his old stuff it’s really good. Anyways they broke up and there was talk about Kellin wanting to put together a new band and Kellin reached out to one of my buddies and asked if he was interested in playing drums. My friend turned him down because he just had his baby boy born and wanted to focus more on being a dad. Come to find out sleeping with sirens was born and looking how big Kellin got we were all blown away!!! My friend blew his opportunity to travel the world and play drums!! Crazy how life is sometimes. If there’s an opportunity presented to you you take it!!! Haha

I saw SWS at soundstage in Baltimore which is a smaller venue and they put on a stadium show. It was fucking breathtakingly beautiful. Kellan sounds exactly how he sounds on albums, which is so rare, he lives there with Anthony Green, Andrew MacMahon, Dallas Green and Chino Moreno. All people who are even more enchanting live. I saw SWS at warped tour as well and they still sounded fucking amazing in an outdoor venue, on one of the main stages in the fucking rain. I love the story so far, but Parker has no vocal stamina and can be lazy with his singing which is crazy considering the way he flings himself around the stage. You know who I forgot? This Wild Life. Beautiful live. When I heard Andrew MacMahon sing Dark Blue live, I cried. When I heard Anthony Green sing East Coast Winters live, I cried. When I heard Dallas Green sing Hello, I'm in Delaware live, I cried. When I heard Chino Moreno sing Digital Bath live, I cried. When I heard This Wild Life sing No More Bad Days live, I cried. Any way I guess my point is is that I think they are trying to follow these artists in their trajectories, but they didn't evolve slow enough? Like arguably Deftones have always evolved pretty quickly but not really, I would say they paced it well and it wasn't until Koi No Yokan, where some people were like, what? But that is also maybe because the rest of these artists have side projects and other bands to express things that don't follow the overall POV of their main projects. Like with the exception of Dallas where City & Colour is what he is more known for. Anthony has his solo stuff, Saosin and that way Circa always sound like Circa. Andrew had Something Corporate & Jack's Mannequin and now he combines both with his touring act. Chino has Team Sleep and Crosses. So they keep their original sound in tact by taking what doesn't fit and putting it there. Maybe that's what would focus SWS mission statement that they made so clear with their first 2 albums which are beautiful and songs that I consistently go back to. Sorry this was long winded. I love to talk about music and no one I know cares as much or more than I do! It's so amazing listening to your insights! Also can you do a video on. Secret & Whisper?!

You're actually quite right in saying with ears felt more like an ep since (and you may know this already idk) sws were originally gonna release a self-titled ep but that then got pushed to become an album by rise. It's definitely worth having a listen to the bomb dot com v1 and big gulps huh well see you later, two songs that were gonna be on the ep but never made it onto with ears if you haven't already. I did wanna also bring up a point that you didn't really mention. Personally, I think at least, with ears is the best album when you look at it from a lyrical perspective. All the albums after that just don't quite hold the uniqueness that with ears does when it comes to lyrics. For me, all their other albums have more 'generic' (I'm using that term loosely, however) and formulaic lyrics whereas with ears, while it obviously isn't a completely unique album lyric-wise, just stands out more than the other albums do in that respect. I discovered sws during the madness era but it's still their first two records that I think are the best in their discography, however, madness still holds a place in my heart, especially songs like better off dead and kick me as that's what I discovered them from. Anyway, fantastic video, really enjoyed it, keep it up!! I'd love to also hear your opinions on hiftbl and how it ties into their discography now

But I personally stopped listening to them after the FEEL album. Maybe because I simply prefer their heavy stuff. "Save Me A Spark" and "Fly" were the only tracks I like from Madness. "Kick Me" was a banger though. Also, We Came As Romans were never a part of Rise Records roster. They're from Equal Vision Records. Great band too! Hope you make a video of them as well. Aside from the music, I think Kellin's attitude contributed to some of their downfall. I remembered watching a Bryan Stars interview where Kellin was openly criticizing his fan's looks (who was standing feets away from the interview). People were also angry how much he overcharged for a meet and greet at one point. I've never seen SWS live but my friend told me he was very rude and stuck up to the crowd (unlike PTV who was also touring at the time), and many people online said that he was also rude during his meet and greets too. His fans felt mistreated and many left, simple as that.

i agree with this! There was definitely a time where Kellin just wasn’t being interactive with fans and coming off as rude. I did meet him when they were doing that small record shop tour for Gossip, and I will say I think his attitude changed a lot, he was sick but he still interacted with fans and was super nice at the meet and greet. I also saw them on their latest tour for HIFTBL and I thought his stage presence was a lot better and more interactive :-)

Never forget when I was side stage at Warped. I saw Kellin come out before the set, point to my friend and me, and the security guard came over to us and told us we needed to leave. We had artists passes and could be on stage/ side stage at any performance. So, I always thought maybe he didn’t think we were pretty enough to be on stage 🙃

Still here bro after binging your videos for like 12 hours. I can't understand any dislikes on your channel. If you don't like it, why the fuck are you watching? The effort into the research, editing and presentation is so respectable. You must spend days on each video for just a few thousand views. Even if anyone doesn't agree with your opinion, respect the hustle and just leave. Respect dude. Thanks for an amazing day of rock history. A trip through high school for me.

for me, Madness has been their greatest album. I love Feel for the song congratulations by itself already, as I saw them playing it on the day before my bday lmao. I saw them live for the first time during the gossip tour. Im very happy where the band is headed with the new album and hope they continue this way. I liked gossip but imo that was their most bland album.

I would've loved for sleeping with sirens to experiment with smooth 1920's -1940's sensual saxophone jazz like something found within a noire film. Also I think it would've been dope to see them take the Billie eilish/Pvris route in terms of a haunting and chilling songs that mixes in electronic sounds, classical instruments, and that noire jazz style. This would've been in my opinion a killer evolution.

I listen to heavy bands like Meshuggah, Death, Slayer etc. but I don't get the hate bands like Sleeping with Sirens, Pierce the Veil etc. get from the metal gatekeepers. I agree that they're not as heavy or brutal, but their music are good and deserves just as much merit.

Good video, man. You're passionate about this stuff, just like myself. Anyway; Brandon McMaster (lead guitarist on their first album) was the key to success for them in terms of good music (the good post-hardcore sound with nice fret tapping and well done guitarwork). A shame he left after that first album. It was all downhill from there I'm afraid.

I like your analysis and how in depth you get. I like your videos. However, I disagree with bands that change their sounds and that meaning some "identity crisis" for a band. If you're a musician don't you want to expand your range? Kellin being the vocals, it's interesting to hear that same voice sing his music in different ways. I actually like it. I loved Roger rabbi. It was so different but still amazing.

What did you think about "How It Feels to Be Lost"? Also, I feel like the reason "Feel" was so all over the place was that they maybe knew that they were known for being able to pull of these different styles so maybe they tried to make something different from their previous works but instead of standing out from the rest it just kinda fell flat.

It was cool because they were metalcore enough for me to enjoy but made love songs which she loved. We saw them live a few times, good times. I’ve briefly listened to their newer albums and I’ve just grown out of it lol. Product of its time.
