Are Russian Brands Rubbish?

Russian companies have created replacement brands to fill the void of the foreign brands which have hypocritically left Russia. Interestingly enough they have not left Israel! But are these brands any good or even better than the originals?

In the US there are some decent usually smaller chains. Also even though same usually premade food some locations still do it better. Miss the all you can eat buffets lost during covid here. Plus their expenses also went up. Had a chain that did decent cheap it get a coupon Sunday brunch. Sure not high end but decent and place was clean. Wife had a job there for a kittk while. Food wasn't special but decent and as said clean. Heck one location did the Mexican side etrer and one did a decent Sunday brunch. So as said previously basically same menu and most premade some his dis th cooling different and seasoning different . But yea can grill up some steaks or make seafood now ay cheaper than going out. Wife says sometimes overspend on food but then remind here if we went out would spend probably triple what we paid for the grocery store food and make our selves. Plus a bunch teen. Now if we go to the coast on along weekend happily go somewhere selling seafood straight from the boat as love it and we are in a desert so not the same here. @@johngalt3566

Plus we still say occasionally do the afterwork drink and appetizers with coworkers. Or go out with friends sometimes if don't invite to the house. But the supposedly too end restaurants the pricing is crazy even if they are good. The low and mid level chains we can usually do it ourselves better and cheaper. So just coworkers drinks and appetizers after work sometimes and friends if not wat our or their house. So an outing not just going for food.

I agree. My late father worked in the advertising industry. Advertising brainwashes a lot of people, especially the young. In Bulgaria, we still have many Lada cars, some dating back to the 70s. Many prefer old Russian cars here, because they're easy to maintain and go on forever. I bet most of the clothes in that Maga store, are made in either India or China and the same applies to Zara. Here in Bulgaria, I buy Bulgarian, Italian and Turkish made clothes - all good quality. If I was in Russia, I may well be seeking Russian made clothes. As for fizzy drinks - don't drink them. The "Sheezoz Family" guy went to the huge mall in Moscow and did a similar survey and investigation background and found that a number of store brands changed their American brand names to get around the sanctions and were selling the same previous product and many said the product was better before, it was the exact same product as before. You know the US churns out students yearly from colleges and universities with degrees in Marketing alone.

The ONLY reason America has these brands is that it destroyed Europe and much of the world via WW2. The Dollar has been most of the World's reserve currency since 1946. This means the rest of the World had to fund America's invasions and brands or risk being destroyed (see the 31 countries America has invaded since WW2... and the countless more it destroyed via 3rd parties). Its not about skill, its about ,money. Europe doesn't have a Google, or Uber or Facebook. Because Europe is a vassal. Hugo Boss, Mercedes and Rolex etc are tiny and really a nod to Europe's own colonialism. A bit of lip service by the US Establishment. Russia should be a global brand epicentre just as it is a massive luxury brand consumer. "Sanctions" can be a huge helpt to Russia in developing GENUINE global brands.

It takes many years of marketing (brainwashing) to establish a 'brand'. What we're really paying for is the decades long psychological conditioning to create the brand which can cost millions of dollars. Once the 'brand' is firmly established or fixed in the brains of the public, it is nearly impossible to substitute it with another product even if the substitute is essentially identical. The marketing mindlock is actually quite terrifying in it's totality and it's ability to control people's beliefs, tastes, preferences etc. We like to think of ourselves as freethinking autonomous beings, and we shy from the notion we're but mindless zombies responding to some marketeer's hustle.

In the case of Russia and companies leaving the market this could be the case. But in an open market environment I think it is challenging. We have an example in Sweden with a domestic hamburger chain called Max that has gained quite a big share of the market from Mc Donalds and Burger King. Think the challenge for those kind of companies and the soft drink companies are rather trends than competition. Today people are more informed about what they eat and drink. Hence the demand for this kind of junk food and drinks could decrease over time.

Thank you, Sam. Another important thing is that Russian brands for years were prone to mimic International (Western) ones. Like an 'English' tea (imported from India or Sri Lanka to Russia or England), 'European' coffee (coffee didn't grow in Europe!), as well as clothes brands, home electronics (equally made in Asia for all world) etc. Don't know, maybe they were just shy of Homeland or indoctrinated by western marketing 'science'. (Of course there are brands which mimic Soviet ones, but it's aimed for nostalgic people at most). Even UAZ, Ulyanovsk factory when introduced Patriot off-road vehicles have chosen to spell it in Latin letters (for the local market). Not Патриот!😢

I know that the Russian brand instead of IKEA imports IKEA products from a third country so they are exactly the same. Russell, Sergey and other KZreadrs says that the Russian brands are the same as those US products. And I guess they are because all of them where made in Russia with Russian ingredients and materials so there should be no difference than just the name. Of couse some things like cars are different but are they really not as good as imported.

Hello Sam, I believe that for many Russians, although they are great patriots, everything that comes from the West is "great", "good" and of "high quality", while their own products or, for example, some from China, are considered "junk". It doesn't matter whether it's Zara, Mercedes, Apple or Bosch, for example no longer produce products in our own country, but rather, for example in Asia, the "brand" attracts and its "image" already spreads over many years, including in Russia. This “phenomenon” can be seen in many videos from Russia...

Never noticed any difference with replacement of Coca, i dont drink this shit at all. not by any brand. My 11 year old son does, i cant forbid him, he says it is exactly the same , Dobriy Cola is the same Coke, i tend to trust his opinion ^))) absolutely different story with Inditex, to which Zara belongs. The business was sold to a Lebanese, what is sold now in Russian stores has a completely different collection, and the concept is different somehow too. Maybe some basic things remain the same, like jeans for example, but more trendy things are different, completely. As i know the replacement stores now are on the verge of closing, since their turnover went down so much. it is Zara's fault in fact. it took them too long to decide what they are going to do with a Russian market :) Market as it is doesnt forgive such hesitation, as clothes are easy to replace, and consumer habits change immediately, especially with the choice Russia has. So, all the Inditex group lost their Russian case. They would come back, i am sure. But there wouldnt be a triumph in their new arrival. Brands in clothing are very easy to change in the minds of cosumers. ^)

SAM this is a great video. I would like to comment in detail here : 1. I think the biggest mistake that Russian Govt and Russian companies made is to position the Russian Brands as replicas of the Western Brands. But a replica can never be the same as Original. There will always be a subtle difference because the original will never share its trade mark recipe with the replica. Russian brands should have positioned themselves not as copies of the originals but as unique Russian Brands with its own unique Russian taste/style may be using that famous SAMAN song " I am Russian" as a kind of Marketing battle cry. I give you an example from India. In 1977, Coca Cola was forced to leave Indian market due to GOI regulations on equity holding. GOI introduced a replica product called Double seven (77) which tried to copy Coca Cola and failed miserably. But over time other local brands named " Campa Cola " and " Thums Up " came up which are uniquely tuned to Indian taste bud and proved immensely popular. In fact when Coca Cola returned to India in 1993 they had to buy the " Thumps Up " brand as it was enjoying 85% market share and had to continue selling it because of its immense popularity. Today Thumps up is a billion dollar brand in India enjoying 20% market share. I am sure same thing will happen in Russia when Brands unique to Russia will start marketing themselves on their own USPs rather than being copies of Western Brands. 2. I am not surprised by the Responses you received from Current generation of Russians who grew up knowing only these Western Brands and nothing else. Its Human nature to resist change. Once we are accustomed to certain taste and style its very difficult to accept something else when its forced upon us by circumstances not by choice. But wait another couple of years and then do this interview again you will be surprised by the result. 3. Next Generation of Russians will grow up on these Russian Brands and will not have these nostalgic hangovers. MacDonald's has retained a buy back option in their deal after 15 years. I can guarantee they will never exercise that option and even if they do by some miracle they will continue to sell under " Tasty period" brand with its own unique taste.
