They're not talking about Wicombe Wonderers and the like, they're talking about global teams with global fan bases, it's fair enough to play games aboard where possible, it's not just local match receipts paying the bills. If you want to watch local football there will still be plenty of local teams to follow, go and watch Tranmere Rovers or something

Imagine being a premier League team supporter all your life, you might even have British parent who has helped you love the team they support. Wouldn't it be amazing seeing the team you supported all your life in person and then see them win the premier League in person. For the slim chance that would happen it would help get more life long fans to support our clubs. I have been to see NFL games and I have loved it each time. I don't mind if Premier teams play in the USA as it can only be good for the fans there. With the problems with profit and loss, this might be a great way for teams to make some extra money. I think it would be great and I would support it to make the game accessible for fans wherever they are. I think champions League game should be held there also. The teams, players and fans should all have a say. I think it would be amazing to be able to take a holiday to the USA to watch a game, say in LasVegas.

When you move a club match abroad, you’re taking from one set of fans to sell to another. This isn’t growing the game at all. This is capitalism killing football. The club owners, folks like the ESL will say “oh we need more cash” blah blah. That’s just nonsense. It’s plainly these owners, Presidents gatekeeping clubs from fans. “You want to support X club? Pay up.” These people aren’t custodians of clubs that have decades and decades of history. They wedge in as profiteers, monetising fandom and support with paywalls.

Well done, The Athletic, on using a clickbait headline as an excuse to disseminate gossip. You start off talking about European football competitions, not the Premier League. No announcement has been made about UEFA discussing it. Has the PL discussed moving their games? No. Would the PL get 14 clubs to agree to playing in the US? No. Are the PL clubs involved in the doomed Super League project still scarred from the fans' reactions? Absolutely. There's a reason the PL hasn't jumped for it, even though Spain and Italy has already started moving their cup games out of their own country.
