They aren't bad dogs, they also aren't starter dogs, unless you do a ton of research on raising a dog and training. The issue with pits and I've owned 2 and had a third for a short time but he went to another home. I had a rott, two buggs, and a boston terrier as well. The issue with pitbulls is they like to fight a lot of em, they have a drive and tenacity not found in many other breeds, maybe a dogo, has it, but they don't feel pain the same, they have no off switch, and they have insane drive, so when something bad happens they will not stop until the dogs dead usually, or the person is severly injurged, but they are not human aggressive by nature do to dog fighting history and the owners would need to reach in and grab their dog when the fights over, and any dogs who would redirect were put down, or not bread with. On the other hand they tend to be super animal aggressive, and dog aggressive. Proper training can curb that, and not all dogs in a pack are going to have that drive but a lot of them do.

I agree with the first part of your statement… There are quite a bit of generalizations in the rest, but I see why you have those opinions. They CAN get themselves into a lot of trouble if not properly supervised or managed. Some have no interest whatsoever in partaking in any sort of violence. Some do.

@@dogtrainingismypassion It's more common that a pitbull is going to be dog aggressive then other breeds though because of their breed history, and then that crazy terrier energy etc. Again if raised right then that gets curbed and not every dog in the litter is going to be the alpha personality or the nervous personality, some dogs are going to be calm middle pack dogs.

The main reason is the breed instinct. Pits have there name being fighting dogs in pits with boars and bulls in the olden days. They were never breed to be human aggressive but they have always been breed to be animal aggressive, thats in their brain. Once bull baiting was banned, they had nothing else to do with them besides make them fight each other. They ramped up the aggression to have biggest meanst dog who would stay in the fight and never give up. Once that was also banned, these dogs had the reputation for being vicious fighting dogs, you now had back yard breeders going crazy to have theses dogs for fights with none of the know how or concern for making sure they are not breeding in human aggression. This happened all over the place, so unless someone starts their own fresh line, you have a huge population of pitbulls that are ticking time bombs of human aggression and have a dangerously high prey drive towards other dogs. They are not the only dog breed for fighting, but they are the most prolific, and more than any other dog out their. They have earned the fearful repuation with dogs and human fatalaties that leave every ther breed in the dust, and even if all other records are combined they still rank number 1. Only the type of disciplined owner who could own and control a cane corso, malinois, dogo argentio power breeds should own these dogs. Otherwise bad things can and will happen. Dogs do what they are breed to do, and pitbuls were breed to fight

the issue is, you have to basically treat anything that looks like a pitbull like you would treat a gun. as a stranger and a non-dog expert, you don't have a clue what it's temperament is, you have no clue what its genetics are. so just like you always treat a gun like it's loaded, you have to assume the worst case scenario when you see a dog you think is a pit bull. throw in back yard breeders, and yeah, problem is worse

Unfortunately, you do have some valid points there. If you see a loose dog, period, you have to be aware it might not be a friendly dog, but you are correct to a degree that backyard breeding adds to the uncertainty of the temperament of a random loose dog.

keep em on your own property -the public shouldnt have to try and make a character assessment of both the Owner and the dog while its unleashed around kids. Rarely hear of a life altering mauling or dead kid from a Lab Cocker Spaniel. They're illegal where i live and STILL responsible for most damaging dog attacks

Unfortunately there’s a strong connection between bully breeds and dog attacks. Mainly due to stupid owners who believe their dog is special and could never hurt anything. People truly do NOT understand their dogs.

@@dogtrainingismypassion The thing is why should our family's very safety be on the line? A kid loses a leg, an arm or worse get its throat gashed out and we're supposed to be ok with "well yeah -stupid owners"? Sorry, but a dog that has the capability of a bull shark or Mountain Lion should simply not be out in the public. if a grown man cant fight off a breed to save a child or even himself -somethings wrong. Go get a huge farm if you want that breed

Having a bully breed doesn’t mean a death sentence or impending injury to a child or anyone else. Where I agree with you is that if you do have a dog (any dog) that has the potential to be a hassle or a liability, they should have them in an area where they’ll be away from the city or urban areas. I know GSDs and other herding breeds that will straight up send you to the hospital. The unfortunate thing is bully breeds tend to appeal to a lot of ignorant people.

@@dogtrainingismypassion correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t the celebrity dog trainer Cesar Milan’s PB maul Queen Latifahs dog to death as well as maul a young aspiring female Olympic gymnasts calf off - sidelining her career forever? Is he just another “ ignorant” owner. Tired of people making excuses for a lethal animal allowed in public in any capacity - that’s ignorance incarnate
