    Phil O'Keefe on the Gibson forum states: "While I can't divulge what we are or are not going to be releasing, I can tell you that the first guitar - and so far, the only guitar that I personally know about that is in development - is not a Red Special. That doesn't mean we won't be making one eventually. I honestly do not know either way."

    Hopefully this wouldn’t be the end of BMG. I picked up a BMG Special about a month ago, and it’s a great guitar, one of my favorites I’ve ever played.

    I feel like there might be a Brian May signature Les Paul or Flying V but not a Red Special Replica. When you are Sir Brian May of Queen you can do whatever the hell you want- it’s kinda like Slash releasing a ES-335.

    High end RS guitars used to be made in Japan by Kazutaka Ijuin according to the Red Special book but I don't think they are anymore. I don't think Andrew Guyton makes any RS models now either, so there is only the BMG Super. Can't see how Gibson could compete on price with the Super at £2,750 (worldwide price). Assuming it is an RS, maybe it is going to be for the US market only?

    According to the brian may website- registration for the brian may super is now closed. This just happened recently which was the only thing i was thinking of too. I said Gibson couldn’t do an exact replica as long as there’s the more affordable super and on Brian’s own website, well now that is no longer the case and at least officially, there is no longer a company making a high end replica.

    Yeah i think you may be on to something here. I used to think that Gibson wouldn’t put out a brian may guitar as long as the brian may super was still in production but as of now, registration for the super is officially closed with them only fulfilling previously existing orders. That was the only thing that would’ve confirmed my suspicions of “welcoming Brian May into the Gibson family”.

    No they’ll be making a j200 acoustic that he uses live

    There wouldn’t be a point of making a J200 any more than there would be in making a jimmy page Stratocaster on the off chance of him using it for one song live or a tony Iommi Stratocaster or a Jimi Hendrix Danelectro guitar. It would be silly if they did as jimmy page is known for a les paul and the double neck, tony Iommi is known for the SG and Jimi Hendrix is known for the Stratocaster as Brian May is known for the red special.

    Is Gibson going to replicate Brian's original Burn's pick ups? They would have to change something to get around the original designs/patents. If Gibson makes anything BUT a Red Special, they've just "gas lit" the whole world. Mr. May is KNOWN for one guitar, and nothing else.

    It sounds weird because you really don't have to add the "red special" part, when you say Brian May sig. Are you worried that the three people who wouldn't know that are subbed to your channel?

    $3000, have you seen anything Gibson has for $3000? It will be more like $7000-$20000! As soon as Tom Murphey touches it, add $10k! Gibson does not care about the average gigging musicians anymore.

    I honestly don’t get why they’d do this, Brian has his own company and there’s exact copies that are made by them for the best part of 3 grand, it’s a fucked idea and I just can’t see why Brian wouldn’t do this with his own company

  • @ThePedroDB

    @ThePedroDB

    Agreed. The Czech made BHM Super guitars are as close a replica as anyone short of Greg Fryer has made. A relic'd RS copy is the only option that has thus far not been offered by BMG. Murphy Labs could definitely offer this and the construction of the RS isn't a million miles off that of a ES335 but there will need to be a lot of tooling for the Tremolo and Bridge components. I think this is a total sell-out by Sir Brian and massive cash grab

    I used to think that as well about the brian may super, as someone else pointed it out. However upon checking his website recently i came to find that they are no longer in production. It clearly states that registration for the super is now closed and they’re basically filling orders for those who had previously signed up for it. Which leads me to believe that if the super, which was the high end replica, is no longer taking orders then that means someone else will. The timing of this couldn’t be more perfect and i believe it is because Gibson will release a high end replica sometime in the next few months, probably an announcement will be made in the middle of summer with production starting in early fall just in time for the Christmas market with limited numbers.

    Greg Fryer, an Australian, was allowed to take the Red Special apert and made 3 more for Brian May. Then Guild and ,now, Brian May , makes them. Nothing can replicate those Burns pickups and Brian's father's electronic knowledge made that guitar. Made in USA is BS as not much is high end quality. I can make a Telecaster like Keith Richards uses, right down to the number of frets, Ash body, Brass tailpiece and they DO sound like McCawber. Gibson have failed everything they have tried this century and disgrased the Epiphone name. I hope Gibson never tries this on May's guitar. They will only make their name worse. They don't even make the ES- 3330 anymore so a Lennon Style Casino no longer exists- unless it's the rubbish Epiphone put out.

    Brian May guitars can be had for well under $1000. A Gibson version would be $3000 and nobody would buy it. Gibson has lost it's way. I wouldn't buy a pick or a set of strings from them anyway, because of what they did to Opcode, so there's that.......

  • @MashaT22

    @MashaT22

    Don’t know what Opcode is, but you do know Gibson doesn’t make its own strings, right? Word has it D’addario make them - same address as the D’addario factory on the packaging, lol. They make them to Gibson’s specs (supposedly). I’m sure Gibson gets a cut, but you’re punishing D’addario too, lol. 😉😂
