Are BYU Football & Kalani Sitake Tempting Fate With 1996 Throwback Uniforms? | BYU Cougars Podcast

The BYU Cougars announced they will don throwbakc uniforms that pay homage to the 1996 BYU football program this fall when they face the Kansas State Wildcats in their Big 12 Conference opener and Jake Hatch explained what he feels about the move and why it means more to him than most seemingly innocuous uniform reveals from Brigham Young University (BYU).
Jake then talked about the commitment of Timpview High School linebacker prospect Taaniela 'Taani' Makasini as he follows his big brother, Sonny Makasini, in making a verbal commitment to Kalani Sitake and the BYU football program and it's just more evidence that BYU has picked up momentum on the recruiting trail this summer and the Cougars are building a great class.
Finally, the show wrapped up with a look at Big 12 Media Days next week and the five players who will represent BYU at the event in Tyler Batty, Connor Pay, Jakob Robinson, Darius Lassiter and Chase Roberts along with head coach Kalani Sitake as they speak with the hordes of media who will be at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Jake - thank you for your story about your grandpa. I am the oldest grandchild and spent so many nights in the 80's getting to attend games at the Marriott Center with my grandma. My grandpa had passed away and she had continued to get season tickets. She would take me with her to any game I wanted. She taught me how to keep stats during the game. I find my mind wandering to those memories when I'm at the Marriott Center. Those memories are very precious.

I can vaguely remember numerous games I attended before the pig skin classic against TX A&M in 96, but that game definitely stands out for me as well. The sound of the crowd after Kao caught the pass at the end of the game will be with me forever

Jake, Awsten Turnbow from Desert Hills just completed his mission and is looking forward to playing at BYU. He is a top safety but also is beefing up to potentially play Linebacker. Served in Guatemala and had issues with the food and water but upon his return is recovering well. 6’1” 200 plus and moving upward he will be a great asset next season along with his brother Braxton who is currently playing at SUU.

I like the 96 uniforms but why didn't they go with Royal tops for the game since those are the uniforms they beat Kansas State with.

First of all Jake, real men show emotion, your G-pa will still be proud of you. Secondly, I'm not superstitious so let them wear what they want. I love cougar, I thought the blue on black looked Tough, and I really like the new white on white. GO COUGS!!!!!

I do not understand all the talk of what color uniforms the team will wear. Is this a fashion contest or a football game?

Unless it's just all white early due to heat? Lots of schools due that in Aug/Sep.

I hate to see BYU squander one of the few chances there are to wear ROYAL during the year. Those whites are spiffy, but please wear them on the road.
