ArchiCAD Tutorial #18: The Organizer and the difference between View Map and Project Map

The goal of this video was to explain the value of the Organizer. But to do that the differences between View Map, Project Map, Layout Book, and Publisher also needed to be discussed. This is a HUGE and very important topic for efficiency in ArchiCAD-for modeling, documentation, and collaboration. So while the video is long, it's also just the tip of the iceberg. Enjoy!

Thanks for posting this, it's really helpful. Just to clarify, when you say you prefer to work in View map, rather than the project map, can you elaborate a bit more? i.e. Do you build the majority of your model in Project map and then make small changes etc in the View map. Or do you begin building your model from the start in the View map? Thanks, Fleur

My template has the primary views all saved in the view map. So I rarely need to go to the project map, unless I need to make a new view. The danger of working from the project map is that you can forget that what you're working on has no correlation to what will be printed (ei, you can be working at any scale, any layer combination, any renovation filter, etc.). By working in the project map what you are working on directly relates to what you'll see on your sheets.

I can't drag my folders from the left part of the organizer to the right part, I don't know why and it's driving me nuts. Any idea?

Try posting your question here: archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewforum.php?f=11&sid=f8dd838edf94f805ec848bad8fe6877a Unfortunately I haven't seen that behavior before and can't reproduce it, so I'm not sure what to suggest.

I usually drag them but don't know why this time I needed to do it by the button.

So you don't run the risk of 'losing work' because you spent the day adding elements to layers that don't show on your placed views.
