I agree with you that the Project Map is not so easy to understand. Just to confirm what you have said regarding the Project Map: The workflow is to first activate the applicable view in view map. The Project map will use the settings and layer combination of that activated view untill you double click on another view in View map. Once a view is activated in View Map, you can now in Project map easily jump from one story to the other and the same view settings will apply to all stories, all sections, all elevations. Even quick options variations can also be used while in Project Map in addition to the active view in view map setting. See the PROJECT MAP VIEWS as all temporary views which will enable you to model faster and to navigate faster through the various Stories , Elevations and Sections without having to worry if the correct layers are displaying or not. If you do not like what you see, simply choose another view in view map and switch back to Project map. Use the TABS in conjunction with project map to navigate even faster. View map represent the correctly set views with the correct settings applicable for the plot sheets. Note: Project map views can also be saved by right click on the Tab. You will find that saved view at the bottom of the view map view list. In short: Working in project map allows us to quickly navigate through the various stories, sections, elevations etc. What you see while working in Project map depend on which View map view was activated. Project map creates the plans Sections, elevations, worksheets, details, schedules, etc. View map takes those basic views in Project Map to a next level where all the variations are created including copies of them to suit the output requirement on the plot sheets. Eg. The ground floor story view in Project map manifests as Ground Floor Reference plan, Ground floor Dims layout, Ground floor Electrical layout, Ground Floor, Joinery layout…..all using the project map Ground floor as the basis but with various layer combinations and various view settings for the layout sheets.

I do have a personalized template that I use in my daily workflow and I do plan to share that soon. However if you’re referring to the template you see here, that is included when you download the software. It is the standard archicad 26 template.
