    Do you have a trick for cleaning up beam end joins when using them as facia around roofs?

  • @Shoegnome
    @ShoegnomeАй бұрын

    Yes. It's all about how the reference lines connect, or more importantly don't connect. One reference line might be at the outside face, the other at the inside face. Then I manually move one end to touch the other beam, but make sure the reference lines don't touch so that the beam ends don't merge.

    Really cool! Thanks a lot - that opens up a whole new world in the design process. With this method, it seems to be possible to create something similar to visibility states of block definitions in autocad. A feature that I've been missing for years in ArchiCad. Is there anything special to pay attention to in terms of schedules within the design options? I'm excited to try it out! Thanks again! 👍

  • @Shoegnome
    @Shoegnome2 ай бұрын

    Schedules are simple. They only look at what design options are visible. So there's really nothing special you need to do other than make sure you have the schedule set to the right design option combination. That's why I recommend in an earlier video to set all your views to a "proposed scheme" D.O. combo so that you can quickly update that D.O. combo and get all your views and schedules to display accordingly.

    Hi Your Videos Is So Helpful I Have A question And I Hope You Answer Me when Generate An Elevation its keep generate the View Every Time I open it even if there is nothing update can you help me

  • @Shoegnome
    @Shoegnome2 ай бұрын

    You can set elevations, sections, and interior elevations to Manual rebuild Model. Similarly you can set any placed view on a Layout to manual instead of automatic update. In general you want to avoid this though. If the model is slow to rebuild when you open a view, check to see if there's some model elements slowing things down (complex geometry, excessive SEOs, bad objects). Often it's worth saving a copy of the file, deleting elements, and figuring out if it's just one or two bad items. It usually is.

    How would you solve the eaves, when you have two different pitch on the hip roof and that you wish to have them at a specific overhang? Thanks!

  • @Shoegnome
    @Shoegnome4 ай бұрын

    That's a design problem, not an Archicad problem. The miter / geometry is what it is. Miter the two roofs, move the corner of the overhang to be equal distance at the corner of the building and then see what that does to the rest of your roof form. The miter won't be 45 degrees and won't cross the building line at the corner of the walls either. In general on old buildings with two roof slopes the overhang isn't equal or there's some other construction technique used to solve the problem. It's not one Archicad can make work on its own.

  • @bividesign

  • @Shoegnome

    I don't. If you're matching an existing building then definitely start from the eave and work backwards. Figure out the fascia and then let the roof be what it needs to be. It'll be weirder than you expect.

    Hello back, I was able to make it work. My ridge line was about 36.8deg for a 6:12 and 8:12 hip roof. I placed the reference line of the higher pitch roof to the new ridge line. The lower pitch roof (6:12) reference line stayed at the structure edge of the wall and simply mitered the roof planes to the other roof (8:12).

  • @Shoegnome

    Renovation filters/status work with design options. Any element on a design option can be new, existing, or demolition. But an element can only have one renovation status and be on one design option. So if you want Wall A to be existing in Option 1 and demolished in Option 2, then you need two Wall As.

    Amazing tool and thanks for the videos! Excited to start using it. I’m assuming that once you have your model view in the design option you want it’s possible to just save current view or save drawing and that will create a save layer and option state within that drawing to use on sheets? If you want to turn on/off individual Options though, you either need to open Design Options Manager or click on what you want in the Design Option Palette. I tend to turn on/off the D.O. I'm having an odd issue with favorites when importing. It's not importing the correct 2d fill type in. For example - millwork should have a "BACKGROUND" fill pattern. But, when it comes into my file it comes in as "AR-SAND". Actually many of the favorites come in with "AR-SAND" as the 2d fill type. Any thoughts on what that issue could be? I have checked the file that I'm importing from (which is your template) and it is correct with the "Background" fill. Is there some setting I dont have correct when importing favorites?

  • @Shoegnome
    @Shoegnome4 ай бұрын

    It's sounds like what's happening is the template you are importing to has different attribute numbers. So in my template Background is say fill #36, but in your template AR-SAND is fill #36. Archicad is prioritizing attribute number over name.

    so, the one thing i got from this new tool is that Design Options (DO) gives you another tool to toggle visibility for an entire group of elements without having to resort to adding more layers. you can keep the same layers turned on, use them & have them turned on/off in whatever view you need them. this is a great series. shame the next one is going to be the last. but if there'd be more interesting ways of using this tool, it'd be great if you can make more videos for it.

    Thank you - the "proposed scheme" concept is brilliant. Random question - what are you using to mark up the screen during presentations (ie: blue marker to circle where the paddle boards would be)?

  • @Shoegnome
    @Shoegnome4 ай бұрын

    It's a small app called Presentify. It's maybe $5, allows me to hit Ctrl+A to start drawing over anywhere on the screen at any time, and is the best little app ever. I can't recommend it enough. It also has a cursor highlight feature which I rarely use. I'll scribble over the screen during a meeting then screenshot what I drew before hitting escape to make the drawings go away.

    And yes, proposed scheme is an absolute must.

  • @markrenz9381
    @markrenz93815 ай бұрын

    I've used that grid concept forever! :) It's OK when used in 2d but, when working in 3d it adds so much bloat to the model (and can cause other issues). Very helpful video. I've downloaded your 27 template and started to incorporate my template into it. It takes me a day or two to do it for each new release or Archicad. I wish there was a quicker way to combine them - kind of like an import favorites file. I've followed your video on how to incorporate new changes but, as the year goes on my file size get much larger. Especially because I usually just copy from one project to the next in lieu of updating a separate template file. This way all of the changes that I make are automatically incorporated into my next project. When you update the template to add the design options - is that something that is easy to transfer into an existing template?

  • @Shoegnome
    @Shoegnome5 ай бұрын

    When it's time to incorporate design options, it'll be quite fast just to create the ones you want and update the view map by selecting all the views at once and changing their d.o. combination to proposed scheme. One thing I don't mention in the videos is that when copying between files, elements bring their design option with them. So one way to populate a file with D.O. is to copy elements in..but that'd be slower and more of a hassle than spending 10 minutes to create them.

  • @Shoegnome
    @Shoegnome5 ай бұрын

    And totally agree. The grid with 3D gets so cumbersome, especially when you're trying to design multiple stories at once. That's the real game changer. Being able to shuffle between and compare/mix different schemes on different stories.

    That makes sense. I'm going to mimic your setup in the video and use that in my first V27 template as a starting point. I want to start using Design Options ASAP. It will make my workflow much more fluid. Good to know about them bringing the DO name along with them. I'd guess there may be some issues with hidden objects or artifacts bringing that info along into new files - but, that will remain to be seen. Does this occur or cause issues with favorites as well? @@Shoegnome

  • @Shoegnome
    @Shoegnome5 ай бұрын

    No issues with favorites because design options aren't saved with favorites. I don't have all my standard design options set up yet, so we'll all be exploring for a version or two while we collectively figure out what are the right D.O. to have and use. I'm definitely still experimenting project to project.

    2d lineworks' place is on a worksheet, at the right position (not far away in the floorplan) - it's a way more easier to use it with tracing. and actually, why using 2d linework, if you can adjust dimensions and do sketches right with the 3d elements themself. of course it's easy to make those lines to disappear with options...

  • @Shoegnome
    @Shoegnome5 ай бұрын

    I like the 2D linework as reference for as builts because there are often slight adjustments between the original measurements and the final model. So those static lines are the raw data. A 2D worksheet would definitely work just as well for storing the linework. Although with a Design Option, that information can live in its original location on every viewpoint and story.
