I decided to take up archery to improve my vision and focus. I’m 67 and am fairly athletic but I didn’t realize I would fall in love with it. I live in Mexico so it’s hard to find a good teacher near me so youtube has been my go-to. There are many good teachers but you are the clearest and my favorite. Thank you for your clear teaching method!

Really liking the thumb under the jaw idea. Pretty much forces you to go to the same position each time. What's your thoughts about using clickers?

I used a clicker when shooting olympic-style archery! It was great for consistency and learning to have the same anchor. A must-have for the Olympic Recurve!

I REALLY hate to ask/snow on the 07-04 parade ... PLEASE forgive me. What about when shooting a TRUE "bare bow"? NO sights, stabilizers, clickers (don't clickers spook the game?) and most importantly NO ARROW REST OR SHELF and even worse ... NO NOCK POINT ON THE STRING. I have been trying to learn how to accurately shoot a Mongolian and Turkish type Horsebows. I am using the "Medeterranian" three finger draw, not a thumb ring. (yet That may changeafter I get a decent thumb ring.) I am not shooting the arrows off the "wrong" side of the bow (yet) either. I plan on eventually getting a "Traditional" (72 inch hickory self bow) longbow that does not have an arrow shelf. No doubt I will run into the same ... "difficulties" ... with it. My stance is good (same as when shooting my compound bows). I "THINK" my anchor point is the same for each shot: Behind my right ear. (I have valid reasons for using that location.) I may not have a nocking point on the strings, but I did use a Sharpie Marker to make a line where the arrow is horizontal/90 degrees to the bow. I am pretty sure I am gripping the bow at the same place every shot. (admittedly I might be high or low by 1/4 inch or so shot to shot. I am consistantly hitting a few feet above where I "think" I am pointing the arrow. Roughly half the time, my shots are also a couple feet to the side. (when shooting from the right side of the bow, between 10 to 18 feet to the right of the target, and where I "thought" I was pointing the arrow. Yes. I know I need to work on that.) I wish I could hire you for lessons. Unfortunitaly, the scenery looks more CA/NV/AZ/NM than ID.

Sounds like you are on the right track! You are figuring out what works for you. That's awesome you are learning to shoot those type of bows. Keep us all updated on your shooting journey with the different bow styles!

Haha! Bad habit from shooting at 5/10 yards - all those years of blank baling up close has me shutting my eyes! LOL
