One thing I learned was to draw and push push the bow forward at the same time as I setup for the shot.

I've been shooting field with my 16 year old son for about six months now, and we're guilty of every one of these mistakes. After watching your video, talking to each other about our forms and putting it into practice, the difference is unbelievable. Thank you very much :)

As a beginnwr archer at 81years[bucket goal], and having viewed many "how" techniques from many "KZread" experienced archers, this has got to be the MOST structured and comprehensive beginner tutorial presentation so far!! Give it a view, endorse it if you agree and encourage the beginner archer to review it as many times as is neccesary for continual improvemnt, success and enjoyment of the sport!

As an instructor of many years it still amazes me that everything Tara says 100% true, where ever you go. There's something natural about archery that people do instinctively and yet they also instinctively do some or all of these things incorrectly. Is some of it copying theatrical/movie archery that's done for show, that's my guess. Great video that covers all the gems of teaching a new starter.

Good Advice, it still makes me smile watching old films of Fred Bear the grandfather of modern archery, he did so many things wrong according to archers of today, full finger grip of the riser, not much if any follow through, but yet he made it work.

For your information Fred Bear was a right handed shooter who lost a finger on his right hand. He had to switch and become a left handed shooter. He also won a lot of championships, but most importantly she is teaching you target archery stance and form where Fred was a hunter there is a big difference

I'm 69 and couldnt master my cheap chinese 40lb take down bow properly. Sometimes starting from scratch explains what pros state as the obvious but never properly explain. Thanks tons, I've just been back to kindy archery class, and learnt again. I bought a 40-70lb compound bow a year ago that I'm doing pretty good with. Very informative thanks again. Liked and subbd. My brother and I started shooting at 7 and 6. I've shot compound, recurve and longbow for nearly 40 years. We used to do 3D shoots all over the state of Maine until we graduated high-school and had to start adulting.

This is gold! Glad I found this, just starting to take interest again. Haven’t shot since I was a teen. Great instruction 👏

Your video was amazingly clear and to the point. I can't think of one way to improve on it. You have a delightful personality that makes the video pleasant to watch. I'm one of the instructors of the youth for our church. We have a club we call, "Pathfinders". Scouts are a bit like us but we include boys and girls so whole families can go on our trips together. Sometimes to a zoo, or museum, other times camping to study nature. Oft times we will have mom or dad be counselor for other kids so they get a break. It actually works! I found your video while searching as I will be teaching the archery honor to our kids tomorrow and thought it wise to brush up. Your video is so good, I'm planning to show it to the kids. The youth get a patch they can display on a sash after completion of an honor. Boy and girl scouts are very similar in that way. I say similar because our church leaders organized a youth club about the same year Boy Scouts came to America. I was a boy scout all my younger years and greatly appreciate the privilege to have been a scout. I didn't know of my current church until 1969. I was pleasantly surprised they had a youth club similar to the Boy scouts I had enjoyed. To earn the basic honor our youth must identify all the parts of bow and arrow and show they can safely string a bow. At 60 feet they must score 40 points on a 2 foot target at 60 feet with 30 arrows. The requirements were intended to make it possible for youth to at least earn the basic honor in a reasonable amount of time with practice. Make something too hard and kids get frustrated. The advanced honor allows them to add a star shaped silver pin to the patch. For that they must score 140 points on 2 foot target at 60 feet with 30 arrows, or for outdoor archery they must score 200 points on 4 foot target at 100 feet. My experience has been it is harder for beginners to get the required points on the four foot target due to the greater distance. A small error on release is magnified into large error on the more distant target. This will be the fourth time I have taught archery to youth in our church. I have seen numerous kids brought to church in a carrier shortly after birth. They grew up and I recently began attending weddings for them. We now have a new batch coming up, it is so rewarding to see the shine on their face when they realize they have earned something they had to work for. I suppose in a few years my "kids" will be bringing their own new born to church in a carrier just as they were when I first saw them. I was able to create arm guards using vinyl I bought at Joann's Fabric store. I sewed elastic and velcro strips to the vinyl, it worked amazingly well and cost a fraction of buying 12 arm guards. Now I need to dig through the storage boxes and find all the archery gear. Many thanks for this amazing video.

The Olympic gold medal winning coach who taught my daughter reckoned the key to shoulder position was reaching towards the target with the bow arm. Mr Lee was Korean and used to say "Jodi muss reach always muss reach" she was a long way from a beginner being the number one for her age in the country, but it still applied. My other thought is get a finger tab on, because there is a risk of nerve damage to the fingertips, especially in young archers. I held Archery Australia level 2 and this was drummed into us on the coaches courses. I have no other issues and your explanations are nice and clear,s o good work. That basic set up with the low shoulder is so important in injury prevention.

I just started archery and I watched videos with many different men to explain about archery and I have to say that you are 200 times better than them. One more time which a woman puts down all the men in their own territory. Bravo 🎉

I bought a Bear Grizzly two days ago. Kept the weight at 40 because my mistake has always been over bowing. Starting at 5 yards and will work back a couple yards at a time. Tried your 2 second hold before release and the release follow through. Made a big difference. Now going to try adding the thumb into my anchor point. I have zero chance of twisting my arm like you did so will probably always need the arm guard. Subscribed.

There are some sticky mistakes that even more practiced archers make. The soft shot is one of these. I know a guy who practiced for years and still has trouble with letting the string slip off instead of releasing it. I think it's easier to avoid these if they're implemented gradually so you don't have to consciously keep in mind many steps at once.

Hi Coach. I would say this is a great video even for people who have been shooting a bit longer. It's got most of the main mistakes in it, and is to the point! It's so easy to fall into bad habits, particularly if you're not under active coaching and have no-one telling you your posture or alignment is out etc. Bookmarked!

coach tara i just wanted to thank you for your videos. more than half my arrows were going over the target until i saw one of your videos about finger placement wearing a glove. i believe that my glove was touching the nock before release. now either only one or no arrows go over the target. i'm glad i found you. thank you!!!

WOOOOOW! 😮...I learn the arrow go below, I was placing on top of knock! And the opposite color faces me, ...I must stand side ways, not facing target, and my release must slide back to my ears, not just open my fingers! Also, I noticed before watching tour vid, that wherever the opposite color faced away it made it very difficult to see tipcof arrow...

Really helpful video - thank you so much. Clear, concise and to the point...s! Went to my first archery lesson last week in the UK and was the oldest female in the group by at least 20years! Great points here, as a beginner I grip too hard and first couple of lessons I got a blister from the top of the grip on my hand because of that! will try the looser grip for sure.

Great videa, as a leaner myself and reason im here is because ive not started my course yet so for about two months been constantly watching vids on form ect. I'm happy to say im doing everything youre saying. Only thing ive not done and this now makes sense to why my arrows go to the left as a right handed archer, i use Huntington arrows and never realised why one fletcher is white. Now i know. Thankyou so much as this will really help my already good bunching. Definitely a follow from a new and hopefully competitive archer, even at 52 i cant see why not.

You make want to get back into bending a bow.. its been 30 plus years but as you were going through those 19 items .. yep did that ..yep did ghat.. its muscle memory.. i still have my old compound i used to go hunt with and 3d targets or indoor shooting.. For any one who doesnot shoot but wants to learn really important to find an archery class or range or soneone tgat shhot ghat will show you the ropes.. It's a lot of fun.. you dont have to pull the biggest bow orcdraw weight . Find an easy puller to start with.. lots of fun.. i used to build my own arrows over beers with my hunting buddy. Lots of fun Thank you for making this vid . It has sparked my jnterest again.

thank you, so very much. I shoot a 55# Bear Magnum Recurve, it was made in the late seventies or very early 80's. I've been asking "pro shop" people why my shot is inconsistent. They couldn't tell me. I am totally guilty of violating #4, my release was an "open the fingers" style with no follow through. I'm eager to see how this will improve. Thanks again, God bless you!

Perfect video, thanks a lot! I remember here in Tuscany joining a bow try during a middle-age feast. I made lots of errors ( no grip before launching the arrow, arrow on my hand's thumb, and so on....😄) On six hit I went very close to the apples and plastic water glasses three times and hit the targets three more times.... I won a red wine bottle.....😄
