If the first theory is correct.... It would all make sense. As to why Amnesia Subaru was keen towards his "book of the dead" idea, after all that is something Gluttony has been doing from the very beginning, stealing memories, so subconsciously that became an option for her. And "IF Gluttony" is the result of her actually going with it. That's actually quite funny. The real subaru on Od Lagna be like "well, I did not expected that at all. Now I'm stuck in here unable to die and she is stuck on my body killing everybody, believing is me." But if that theory is correct, then does that means Return By Death is inside his body and not his soul? I thought that what went in the past was Subaru's soul carrying his memories. But if Louis can use return by death while inside Subaru...... Arghhh, I don't know. My brain instead of trembling, is fucking melting. Either way, thanks for the summary xD

Lmao don't worry, my brain is melting too. I think Return by Death worked cause he was still Subaru in the same way that Rem is still Rem. His consciousness and memories were trapped in Od Laguna while Rui controlled his body/mind on the outside. So it was still Subaru, Rui was just calling all the shots and also thinking she was Subaru. So basically I think he was both Subaru and Rui at the same time, which is why he was still able to use his authorities even though he was being controlled

The explanation that makes the most sense to me is that Rui/Louis split her witch factor temporarily and placed it inside Subaru after his memories were taken sort of as an observer, similar to echidna but doing so in a way that causes that version of her to not have any of her original memories. It would explain why he lost control of his body by somebody believing they were Subaru natsuki. It would also explain why in the next chapter she has a particularly adverse reaction to the memories of return by death. When she regains that witch factor she split she sees those memories first hand, unlike the ones that originally belonged to Subaru and were stolen. By binding her witch factor to his soul it would allow her to avail of return by death by observing them through the witch factor and collecting them when Subaru returned. Maybe I just made that more confusing though

Even though I'm in the r/re_zero's official discord server and partook of the new chapter discussion and went over the exact same theories (not sure if you are or not), I did enjoy the video a lot. Keep up the good work.

Well I think they were always the same person kinda, for example when Subaru hits "Subaru", he feels the same amount of pain. This suggests that they were the same person, just one had memories and one didn't. When Subaru read the books of the dead and regained all the old memories, there was no longer a need for both of them to exist. That's my take on it, I may be wrong though

@@airyless8851 That's a good question. I'm not sure how it works exactly but my guess is that it's somehow possible for the two to merge together by meeting in Od Laguna. I don't think it could happen anywhere else

My favorite KZread series you far. Well yeah I think rui got so brain dead by all of Subaru’s deaths that she thought she actually was subaru. What if subaru never lost his memories and just died, but continued to live somehow and rui went through all the shit in her head. Unfortunately she can’t really return by death bcz Satella is one soul.

I cried my heart out during this chapter

I’m the 4 to 5 Chapters we’ll figure out what’s going on here especially with that cliffhanger. My take on this is take on this is that Louis after she stole Subaru’s memories just put herself in his head and watched while screwing around with him a little. So essentially when they fused the Subaru parts together it didn’t take the Louis parts leaving her behind. Now in this case she hopes to use this to attack Subaru both physically and mentally probably because she can’t steal his memories anymore. If he gains Gluttony do you think he’ll be able to use it in this arc? Also do you think that this is the final attempt or do you think that the next death is the final attempt so that what he experience in this attempt can be locked off?

I think this is Subaru's final attempt for sure. Once he leaves Od Laguna I think he'll be mentally prepared enough to form a solid plan. Part of me also thinks Louis/Rui may have some sort of redemption and actually help out Subaru, but that's a long shot. I don't think Subaru will be very compatible with gluttony, so if he uses the authority I assume it will be even more painful than invisible providence. But if he is able to use it this arc, my guess is that it will be another reverse-positive form like Cor Leonis, and maybe it'll be the key to saving Rem.

The twist of a twist of a twist has a twist . .i love arc 6

Rui was taking over Subaru's body and carving things like "Natsuki Subaru was here" to convince the post-memory loss Subaru that he was being taken over by the pre-memory loss Subaru (the "real" Subaru who got his memories eaten). If he believes that he's sometimes being taken over by the "real" Natsuki Subaru, it prevents him from thinking of himself as being the "real" Natsuki Subaru, since he's being taken over by someone who is completely separate from himself. Rui was trying to force Subaru into creating a distinction in his mind between himself and "Natsuki Subaru", because that would allow Rui to eat his memories again. She can't eat the memories of the same person twice, but if she can make her target think of themselves as being an existence that's completely distinct from their original self, then they become a valid target again (since Rui's ability then considers them to be a different person). Basically, she was trying to make Subaru believe that the original Subaru still existed and was taking him over, so that he would identify himself as someone who is not Natsuki Subaru, which would allow her to consume his memories again.

Soooooo Rui was in control of Subaru's body since he lost his memories and I'm assuming that she lost her memories as well. I can only guess that some contract was made between them. Though I am confused about something, we never saw the first time Subaru went inside of the book but only the result of that, which was memory loss. So the contract could have been made then but in the chapter "Stand Up" we met Rui and if the contract was made before then why did Rem show up? And why she want control of his body, if she already had it? Something I noticed as well if this as was Subaru's plan from the beginning than Ram was right in questioning him.

Yo you didn't like what they did with Subaru this chapter you mentioned that it's Subarus same old development and you might have just been lost because of translation but for me this was THE arc and moment that makes Subaru a god tier protagonist up there with guts,lelouche ect. I thought this was Subarus greatest step yet as in the first season he has too realise he's not alone, season 2 he has to learn to trust his friends and not carry all the risk himself and have self respect by rejecting echidnas proposal and then this arc had him talk and admit his love to himself and I thought it was like for the first time Subaru was capable of being satisfied and pleased with the person he's become in this new world. this moment where he's finally decided to love and not hate himself through talking with the other Subaru was pure gold to me as Subaru still in arc 5 doesn't believe he deserves the recognition and it seems to me Subaru makes a fully rounded perfected protagonist like number 1 in anime quality from this moment.

My theory here is that Rui is inside Subaru's soul or body I don't know but she is certainly inside Subaru. She is like an observer watching Subaru. Also those moments where "Natsuki Subaru" killed Meili and wrote his name all over the aisle is basically Rui which supports my theory. She is hijacking the consciousness of Subaru at those moments and messing up with him. Also what I think happened is that the new Subaru merged into the orig Subaru leaving only Rui to the real body of Subaru. In other words, Rui is hijacking the real body of Subaru now in the end of the chapter and Natsuki Subaru needs to get his real body back by either throwing Rui out of his real body or kill her. My theory also supports as to why Subaru saw Rui when he read the empty Book of the Dead of Reid. Basically what happened there is that Subaru saw through inside his body when he read the book that's why he saw Rui there which is inside his body. The only question is that why is Rui inside Subaru? where is her real body? What is her real goal? Why does Rui emerged through Ley? Why is Rui is inside the Hall of Memories or Cradle of Od Lagna? The Rui who manifests in this chapter is her consciousness hijacking the real body of Subaru now that the new Subaru merged into the orig Subaru. There are now inside the Book of the Dead of Natsuki Subaru struggling who will gonna take the real body.
