ARB twin air compressor repair (including troubleshooting)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Apologies for the flickering. Turns out the GoPros at 60fps catch some flickering from the Milwaukee LED Rocket tower.
This 15 year old ARB CKMAT12 dual air compressor that came with our Jeep CJ was wounded, with only one of the two pumps working reliably. After doing some troubleshooting & digging, it was determined that one pump needed a rebuild.
The ARB compressor piston barrel service kit (part number 320303) was required & ordered. This kit replaces the obsolete 320302 kit which only included one of the two bolt sizes. The updated kit includes both the M5 and M6 hardware to repair both newer and older ARB air compressors (built before or after August 2017). The M5 x 20mm bolts are torqued to 10Nm (7.4ft-lb or 89 in-lb), and the M6 x 25mm bolts are torqued to 12Nm (8.9ft-lb or 107in-lb).
The majority of the steps in this video will work for the CKMAT24, as well as the single unit CKMA12 & CKMA24.

As long as the bolt didn't shear off, super straight forward repair. They do sell the complete motor / pump replacement if the damage is significant. Good luck!

@@EricCantin Who sells them (rebuild parts)? I called the place I bought mine from, and they wouldn't sell me one, and I called ARB and they told me the compressor assembly was the smallest unit I should replace because my cylinder walls have little scratches. I wanted cylinder sleeves, orings, and bolts. They refused. I got bolts and orings from Ace. Since then I've seen lots of videos of worse cylinders going back together, so I'm putting mine back together.

@@everettdurst1 Google ARB 320303 and order the service kit. That's what I did. As of today, about $33 USD from a few vendors.

Can you tell me on the little air tank under the cover, is that a silver sticker on that little tank? Is the whole tank black plastic? I just got one of these off ebay. Everything looks legit on the compressor, but the tank is misaligned with the airport. Mine is all black. Your looks like it may be aluminum?

Where the line connects? As i tap with a bolt sounds like some form of metal and not plastic. But this is a 15+ old unit, so no idea if they changed it over the years.

@@EricCantin Yea thats true. I suspect somebody tried to fix this one and got irregular oem parts.

Will you share some info on your air filter relocation ? Did you keep the air filters that came with it or did you modify the air filter too. I need to replace my air filter bronze filter but the only way to do that is to buy a hole kit , and I don’t want to do that. I’d rather spend more money and time to get away from arb air filter

The previous owner did the filter relocation. He pieced it together to look like the ARB 171319 Air Compressor Filter Relocation Kit. Can’t remember what filters are on it. Any filter with a threaded fitting could work.

Ok thanks , I sent you a message on messenger, if there is any way you would take s pic of the filter end of those blue hoses I would greatly appreciate it.

I tried to buy a rebuild kit for mine, and they wouldn't sell me one. They keep saying I should buy a new pump assembly, which I might as well buy a new compressor in a brand that sells rebuild kits. For the money, my old Viair is way better. I'm just putting it back together and going to run it as long as I can then buy Viair again. These are neat, but they don't live long and they don't sell rebuild kits anymore.

Which model pump do you have? I had to figure out this was the part I needed based on the single compressor unit.

@@EricCantin I have the twin compressor kit. I ended up putting it back together with the scored cylinders and some new orings from Ace. It's working good enough. It sounds smooth and powerful, and fills all four tires from 8psi to 32psi in about 5-10 minutes. I think it used to do it much faster. I never timed it, but I think it's a few minutes longer. I mounted it inside the Jeep this time, and put real air filters on it, so it should last a long time now. I'm still convinced I'll put a Viair in there if these quit again, although I think the better filters would prevent this scoring.
