Arai Rapide Neo helmet review
Earlier in 2019, we reviewed the super-cool Arai Rapide Neo helmet up at our favourite bike stop, Newlands Corner. The weather was a bit rubbish, the sound was a bit rubbish and, in truth, the review was a bit rubbish. So we thought we'd do a proper in-house review on what we think is one of the most exciting helmets to come to market in years. The Arai Rapide Neo helmet is Arai's take on a retro-styled helmet. If you ride a modern retro machine such as a BMW R nineT, Kawasaki Z900RS, Moto Guzzi V7 et al, helmets with large aerofoils and wild race graphics simply look a bit odd. There are many retro helmets on the market but, quite frankly, none are up to scratch. Which is why we've been begging some of the big manufacturers to produce a bang-up-to-date, feature-laden helmet with proper venting, customisable interior and Pinlock visor and so on. The Arai Rapide Neo helmet is the first seriously equipped lid to come to market, and both Chris and Sean dissect the helmet in this video review.

Brilliant review Chris and Seano. Quality
A few reviews of the Rapide Neo / Concept X mention that it's a 'much bigger' helmet than the Glamster, then talk about Arai's design philosophy vs that of Shoei. Based on these comments I assumed that it was going to be a physically large helmet, but when I received mine I found that it's actually smaller than my Shoei RYD (both helmets are size L), though it's definitely heavier. I understand that the Arai is larger than the Shoei Glamster, but it's not a huge helmet.
Very helpful, thanks.
I wish the German shop, where I bought my Araï Concept-X last week, would have the same expertise regarding all the little bits that can be added for a perfect fit. I love this helmet though. Well done to both of you, wishing the days of free travels return so that I’d pay you a visit from the continent.
I would like to point out that Shoei and Arai have two different philosophy about making helmet shells. Shoei goes more for energy absorption and Arai more for sliding. I like Shoei more but currently wearing Arai Rebel due to a fact that there is no helmet in Shoei range for rounder head. Difference in weight is definitely plus for Shoei. And Arai always go for Snell standard so that is cause for their helmet to always have bigger weight. All in all you can't go wrong with any of those two brands. Beautifully crafted, top safety, comfort and ventilation in their respected clases. One is better at some areas and another at other areas so it is your personal preferences.
Planning on ordering the Arai. Styling will look great on my Harley
I bought a Shoei jo last week from Chris’s place fabulous helmet In cream and black/ gold pin stripe Well chuffed
Love this lid but I don’t get why it’s ‘retro’ looks more street fighter look to me. It would look weird on a 1970s BSA but awesome on an Aprilia Tuono
Is it correct that these come with 5mm removable cheek pads? I'm presuming they're pretty thick to begin with?
The chin, and general shape is based on an helmet that existed in the 80s, photos of it can be found on the internet
My own opinion, l own a ari one beautiful helmet and a very expensive one remember guys you are riding a motorcycle with nothing around you for protection the only thing between the helmet and stupidity on the road is you nothing will save your life it's mostly how you ride and experience stay safe lots of great helmets out there cheers
are there speaker cutouts
The Arai Neo is simply an amazing helmet, want one :-) which color, modern grey ? Thanks

Pink with green balls.
I wonder if the Defiant X is smaller or bigger than the Rapide
Where can I purchase those pads to add ?
Is the Arai logo on the front removable or lacquered over? Also, will Cardo’s PackTalk Slim work with this, as the exhaust vents at the rear may not allow the unit to fit.

The logo is not lacquered over so we think could be carefully removed. I’m afraid we don’t have experience with Packtalk so I can’t answer that.

Bought the Arai a few days ago, removed the logo no problem at all; it's a bit tedious to do since the sticker doesn't really want to let go, so you should have patience, allocate about 20 min to half an hour and carefully remove it with your nail only (it'll come off little piece by little piece). Carefully rub the sticker residue off without using an aggressive chemical product & you're golden ;)

Use a hairdryer or heat gun carefully
How does this compare with shoei ex zero? :)
could you show the different colours of the Arai next to each other. I can't make my mind up on what would work with different clothing/bikes.

You can check them all out on the website, but when the helmet is finally received we will feature them all in a box-opening video.

Motolegends ok brilliant can’t wait to see them next to each other on the video! The pictures don’t really do it for me since its not natural lighting
It's such a shame for Arai that the Asian model doesn't come with emergency quick release cheek pads, while it's standard on European model.
How does rapide neo's ventilation compare to the other arai helmets? It looks like rapide neo has less ventilation channel.

Not sure because we don't sell many other Arais. Arais have always tended to be pretty well vented because the brand comes out of racing, but this does tend to make most Arais excessively noisy. I don't think one should look at the Arai Rapide Neo purely on the basis of its functionality. It's a great looking helmet but there may be a trade off in some areas, and venting might just be one of those areas. ML

@@Motolegends Thanks for the reply. I certainly love the look of concept-x/rapide neo. But as a 5-year commitment , I kind of wish it has similar ventilation performance as other similarly priced helm.
Is this glasses friendly?
"Few bars of chocolate " 😄 🤣
What kind of shape is it? Oval
@pookiewookie7679

There are three oval head types. Intermediate oval, round oval and long oval. This helmet looks very slim and narrow compared to the other ones
Arai Neo, Concept X, and Shoei Glamster none will be avail in the US. Shame.
I bought a Glamster. Cheaper and nearly as good.
Is everyone having speaking difficulty or something?
