ARAI Concept-XE ECE 22.06 Helmet Review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Arai have channelled 80s looks with a nod to the aggressive naked and streetfighter style. You don't have to be a longstanding Arai fan to love this lid, but those who find themselves dipping their toes in the retro full-face market will find it a smooth transition from their more technical race helmets.

*I have an Arai Classic V. I bought it sight-unseen and it fits PERFECTLY. No uneven pressure to any part of my head.* It also has a venting system that is so effective the helmet has yet to smell like my head. It's worth the US$450 it cost me.

How is this helmet for colder weather? My Shoei RF-1200 vents a little too well in cooler weather.

this was my top of the list until i tried opening the visor. it was difficult to open with bare fingers and i can't imagine doing it with gloves. perhaps ill give it another try. i trust arai's safety standards.

How is the fit compared to an Arai XD-4? There would be no way for me to test fit this before ordering overseas.

The only finicky thing I find about the helmet, and you touched on in briefly, is the opening mechanism for the visor. On the previous version, it could reeeeeally be tough to open the visor while wearing the helmet, until you get used to it, compared to other Aria helmets I've had in the past. (Tip: pull the visor tab a little out and way from helmet itself, and then push up to open, instead of just pushing the visor straight up.)

@@hiroshiii6031 The Quantic took two years. I don't understand Arai's product rollout formula with all the competing names/release dates, but there's clearly more to it than just "ship whatever we can wherever we can." If you go to a shop in Japan, there's a little chart of which helmet is called what, where. This helmet doesn't have a US equivalent, nor does the Vector-X/Chaser-X. Going the other way, the US has an exclusive on the Signet-X.

@@UrbanRiderlondon can you point to in the right direction. I had a look at the website, and Arai concept-xe vas v visor says it's "Genuine replacement visor to fit the Arai Rapide and Concept-XE Helmets." Rapide is the last generation yes?

I have the Japanese version of this (the Rapide Neo). I had it fitted to my head, so it is definitely comfortable. It's loud as shit though. I have to wear earplugs, even at city speeds, because the VAS shield whistles if you ride with it fully open. Saw a similar comment on a Quantic review, so I guess it's not just a Rapide thing. It goes away if you put your hand on your head - must be an interaction with the R75 shape. You could probably put horns or a mohawk or whatever other kind of sticker on there to kill the noise, but I don't know that those sort of accessories are safe in a crash. I haven't had much time with it at highway speeds, but it's particularly loud there too, even with my -25dB plugs in. Makes me wonder if I should get a different helmet for bigger trips and just use this one in-town. I haven't gotten the hang of the visor latch, although I only close the visor if it's wet or cold outside, so maybe I need more practice. 🤷‍♂ For me, this replaced my AGV K3 SV. At first, I thought the fabric in the AGV was way more comfortable (silky vs scratchy). Surprised me that a $200 helmet would have a nicer interior than a premium one, but the Rapide grew on me over time and I'm happy with the comfort now.

That's a weird one, I pretty much always ride with earplugs and I find this helmet is very quiet and stable at speed. I do notice a bit of a whistle with my head turned at some angles when the visor is open but I've had similar with pretty much every helmet I've had.

The one I have has thumbscrews with a big coin slot. It is a bit more work than the quickrelease on my AGV, but it's not awful. You don't need tools or anything.
