Aragorn’s mother’s last words to him were “ I gave Hope to the Dunedain, I have kept no hope for myself”. Aragorn used to go by the name Estel, which is elvish for Hope. So it adds so much weight that Elrond said “ Onen I-Estel Edain” which means “I give hope to men” and Aragorn remembers the last words of his mother and replies with”U-chebin estel anim.” Which means “I keep none for myself”. So not only is he taking on the task of accepting to be king but it’s a real great “remembering who I am” moment as well

@@hahaterrance5461 Numenoreans are close to superhuman anyway compared to "middlemen" like the descendants of Rohan. They were long lived, physically strong, and generally tall ( with the average Numenorean standing well over 6 feet and Elendil The Tall being close to 7 ) They were also INCREDIBLY wise and smart with their forging ( since they forged and used steelbows ) and had the best arms of the time ( that wasn't held by Elves or Dwarves) Eventually though, Numenor's Arnorian kingdom died out ( by disease or by war ) and its descendants, the Dunedain, lived simpler lives. The Kingdom of Gondor, while still standing tall, would eventually also weaken, partly by mixing and mingling with the other races of men, but also because the various wars and incursions from Mordor, Harad, Umbar, and Rhun would continue to pressure it. Aragorn is not only the rightful king by blood ( being descended from Isildur and Elendil, who were both kings of Arnor and Gondor ) he was also the chieftain of the Dunedains, and would live to be 200+ years old before his passing. He's the closest superhuman human Middle Earth has in the Third Age I'd say.

Imagine if he took it to Pawn Stars. Rick: "This is a nice old sword but it has a couple of issues. You can see that at some point it's been reforged so that definitely affects the value. The smith who did that also polished it and weaponsmiths will always tell you with these ancient swords patina is everything. And I'd really need to see some paperwork tying it to Telchar, even an old photo of him holding it in Nogrod. It's really cool though and I'd like to get it at the right price. Would you mind if I got an expert in to take a look at it?" Aragorn. "No that's cool man." Expert enters. "Hi I'm a dwarvensmith and I specialise in forging ancient weapons for Elf kings and for the Kings of Men. What are your queries with this sword Rick?" Rick: "Well umm, is it genuine and what's it worth? Dwarvensmith: "Well it definitely looks like the work of Telchar of Nogrod. I've got a picture of Angrist on my laptop here and you can see the similarity in the metalwork. The signatures appear to match, you can see the Dwarf Runes on it and you can see the flourish at the end of the R in Telchar. That's absolutely typical of his signature. On the whole I'd say it's the real deal. You've got yourself a genuine Anduril, reforged from the shards of Narsil. As far as value, there's been a bit of a drop in demand lately for these, but I could still see it bringing around one Silmaril at auction. Rick to Aragorn: "So how much do you want for it?" Aragorn. "You heard the man, I want one Silmaril for it." Rick. "No that's retail. I gotta mount it in a nice frame, and it's a limited market, not many Kings of Men come in looking for a piece like this so it's likely to sit in the shop for Ages. How about 2 Palantirs and a Wizard's Staff. Aragorn; "No I paid more than that for it. I think I'll just keep it and pass it on to my Heirs." Rick: "Well thanks for bringing it in. Let me know if you change your mind."

This scene, in all its epicness, is sad for me at the start. This is the very last time Theoden and Aragorn get to see each other, and "I take my leave" is the last words he got to say to him....and then the look of sadness & fear, but forced understanding at the greater path that Aragorn needs to take and how necessary it is for him to take it because he's the only one who can. And that means he must leave. And Theoden has to lead his army now without him by his side, someone he knows can carry the strength even more than him and can breathe new life into everyone when hope is at its last breath as he did at Helm's Deep. That's how Powerful Aragorn is, how good he is. And yet Theoden carried on, and carried that strength and that courage into the battle at Pelenor, and it was his finest day. He looked at his fears several times during those battles against both the Mordor and MOTE armies and charged on. And took most of them down in the process. Theoden is one of my favorite characters. He truly shined in Return of The King.....and in a way the movie title is ironic because it's obviously meant for Aragorn, but this movie also demonstrated Theoden's full return as the powerful King of Rohan, displaying the true glory of the house in Middle Earth's most dire moments, especially after Saruman's deep cutting insults towards him and his house at the very beginning. Peter Jackson left nothing out with what he wanted to create. I know it doesn't exist but I would pay to see a deleted scene where Elrond has this talk with Theoden right before Aragorn comes in.

Aragorn had actually set out from Rivendell with Anduril, right at the beginning of the journey. But, the creators of this epic rendition chose this way of presenting the sword, which makes it even more awesome!

It’s the way Elrond speaks, as well. Prior to this, he was really gloomy and incredibly serious, even for his standards (obviously because Arwen chose to be with men instead of the Elves), but when he presents the Sword his voice carries with it excitement, as if the words themselves wanted to celebrate their being used to refer to the Weapon that, 3000 years before, defeated Sauron and ended the War of the Last Alliance at Dagorlad.

I actually LOVE that they changed that from the book. In the original novel, Aragorn receives Anduril when they reach Rivendell the first time. This gives it more MEANING......

@Matej Juhás Yes......in the BOOK..........they reforged the sword when they were in Rivendell in "Fellowship". That they did it in "Return" in the movies, gave it more dramatic effect, if nothing else..........because Aragorn received Anduril right when he needed it!!!

Yeah the biggest change was this from books to movie other than the omission of the razing of the Shire because in the book Aragorn wanted to become king from the beginning so he could have Arwen's hand in marriage as anything less and Elrond wasn't going to say yes to the marriage.

I think this is one of those changes the movie made that was actually good. Instead of him having the sword from the start abd speaking about its imoortance, that he gets it later on makes it more earned in my opinion.

@@hitrapperandartistdababy no in the books it is reforged before even even leaves. He goes around in the story and gains respect and takes great pride in showing off his sword, even telling people before entering theodens house to not touch his sword and he will not take it in, which the guardsmen are impressed with.

If I'm not mistaken, in the books, Aragorn received Anduril in Fellowship after the Council of Elrond (perhaps before, can't remember exactly)... Nevertheless, I do appreciate Peter Jackson giving due gravitas to the the Flame of the West! Amazing moment.

I know this is not how it unfolded in the books, but I personally believe the film's use of Anduril was much more impactful. In the books, the sword carried significant meaning and status, but in the film, this moment became the final piece in Aragorn accepting his responsibility, duty, and heritage. A king who does not seek power often makes the best ruler. In the books, Aragorn accepts his path much earlier, which I have no problem with. However, I can't describe how pleased I am that Peter Jackson chose to add more weight and meaning to the passing and reforging of the sword in the film. This choice made the story more emotional and highlighted Aragorn's acceptance of his destiny.
