Arabian Horses And The Tevis Cup - Most Difficult Endurance Ride

In this video I review why so many endurance riders at The Tevis Cup, the biggest and most difficult endurance ride, choose Arabians at their riding partner.
What are the top reasons this breed excels at the Endurance Horse Sport.
Arabian horse's are the oldest horse breed, traced back 3-5,000 years. They are known the world over for their grace and beauty. They also carry DNA from their origins in the harsh desert of the Arabian Peninsula.
First owned and coveted by the Bedouin tribes who meticulously bred them for stamina and surviving these harsh conditions. They also started to register these amazing horses.

So interesting. Is Sue's horse she rides at Tevis an Arabian ? What other breeds commonly do endurance ?

@@melaniefarber7381 Yes, Sue’s mare that she’s been competing since 2012, Kismet Cognac, is a Purebred Arabian. Almost any breed of horse, pony, or Mule can be successful Endurance mounts, if trained and conditioned properly. But Arabians far and away are the most popular breed for this sport for all of the reasons outlined in the video. 😊💜🐴

Probably a controversial comment, but I just came across a clip w/an Arab foal and was very concerned about the extreme dish. I have been out of the horse seen for a long time, but noticed in the Scottsdale Arab catalog I used to get back in the 80s, that their overall conformation was changing, not for the better. Pippa looks like this 70yr old woman remembers

Their dishes are completely fine and natural. Do research and grow up before commenting.

How long did it take you to get fit ( both yourself and your lovely mare) to start riding endurance rides?

Hi Philippa! Thanks so much for watching. The endurance sport takes a long time to properly train and condition for. The Tevis Cup requires a horse to be a minimum of 6 years to compete. The best training involves a lot of walking for the horse and gradually increasing distance and or speed. I’ve been riding/training my mare Pippa since 2016. I “try” to maintain my fitness by working out 2 times a week at OrangeTheory. My mare and I are training in the Dressage sport which also takes years to progress up through the levels. You have to love the process and the journey! 💜😊🐴

Puede que tengan resistencia, pero nunca la resistencia con la velocidad que mantiene el árabe, están a años luz.
