THE TEVIS CUP 2021-THE ULTIMATE TRAIL RIDE- THE ULTIMATE ENDURANCE RIDE- FIRST HAND COVERAGE

First hand coverage of THE TEVIS CUP 2021. The Ultimate Horse Trail Ride and the Ultimate Endurance ride. I returned from out west and an EPIC adventure crewing for my friend, Sue Basham. Sue's son Paul was on the crew also.
It has been 2 years since my last trip out due to Tevis being canceled last year.
Sue was riding for her 10TH Tevis Completion which is rewarded with The Decade Buckle.
Her amazing Arabian mare, KC was doing her 6TH Tevis Cup. It is so rare for a horse to complete multiple times, any horse that completes 5 Tevis Cups has their name etched on the Robie Cup, the first place award! So KC did that in 2019.
KC is now 16 years old and came in the Top Ten at Tevis on her first try as a 7 year old in 2012!
I just can't say enough about how proud I am of Sue, KC and all of the riders and horses this year.
My deepest GRATITUDE goes out to Rob Paulverson, Paul, Sue's son and my fellow crew member who I could never do this job without. Gratitude to all the Tevis Volunteers, organziers, Vets, and the wonderul horsewomen and men I met on this trip!
The Tevis Cup is the one of the most difficult Endurance rides in the world. It may be the most grueling with a tough technical trail and possible drastic weather changes in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
This year's ride was a big challenge for all of the riders and horses. 133 Started, 63 Completed and 70 were pulled throughout the ride for various reasons including Lame, Metabolic and Overtime.

100 miles in 24 hours! Yes-that is tough. Quite the achievement for your friend Sue. So wonderful that you’re there to support her. Beautiful country. Gives us an idea of how past generations traveled.I like the names of the different places.

Thanks for watching! I love this sport and am always amazed at the riders who take this challenge on! I believe this year the youngest rider to complete is 13 years old, riding with her Mother, who also completed and the oldest is an 81 year old man!!

I love how it’s not like a lot of the big competitions in other sports. There are stock trailers out there, it’s not all fancy new slant loads, and the horses & riders are in normal tack instead of top of the line perfect stuff. I love that. It seems like a more comfortable atmosphere in that sense.

I spent the Tevis week this year caring for my very sick stallion and alternating between hand feeding him super sloppy alfalfa pellets and getting him to drink and watching the livestreams the night of lol He pulled through and while he lost a lot of weight, he's gaining it back slowly, and back to having a hearty appetite and making his happy stallion noises and dances at supper time. In a couple years I hope to do our first LD together ^^ Crew are really so valuable, especially in the later miles when you need to be reminded to care for yourself as well as your horse. (I personally have only done one LD 25 miles; Midnight Rider 2019, which is a night ride in Washington State, usually held the same night as the Tevis itself :D. My mare was perfect that year and carried my potato sack self well, even had all A's on her back which amazed me because I'd been doing a lot of acrobatics trying to find comfortable ways to ride her moose trot later in the ride lol) My mom sort of crewed for me; she was mostly there as moral support lol. I'm on the Spectrum and she is my buffer around people until I get to know them enough to hold my own conversation. Kudos to her for driving us home at 2AM after the ride since we weren't sure my mare would behave herself through the whole night if we camped. Congratulations to Sue for her finish! I, personally, don't think I'll be able to do 100s, at least, not yet lol

Hi Liz! Thank you for watching and subscribing to the channel! The saddle Sue rode in the Tevis Cup 2021 is a Stonewall Living Bar Endurance Saddle. It has the new patented Living Bar Technology which combines a rigid Carbon Fibre Tree structure with Flexible panels that conform to the horse’s confirmation. The seat and twist can be adjusted as well as the position of the stirrups. Here is the company link... Sue loves her saddle which she custom ordered from Stonewall! www.stonewallsaddles.com/#/

@@alifewithhorses-meryllynn The music is lovely, IMHO (I'm a sucker for this music lol). Those who do not like Irish jigs and the like won't miss any major dialogue from what I've seen so far by muting it. The finish line has audio, and a little bit at one of the holds with Meryl helping with a sponge toward the end. For a critique suggestion, perhaps notate in the chapters/timestamps where the music maybe pauses and dialogue is happening so those who don't want to hear music know when to unmute to hear what's being said, but tbh I liked this video lol
