Commissioned by the Indiana Bandmasters Association for the 2008 All-State High School Honor Band, this stunning work from the pen of Samuel Hazo is a tour de force of Middle Eastern sounds for the contemporary wind band. From delicate and sensual soloistic writing to full-blown ensemble passages with rapid fire tutti rhythms and frenzied percussion, here is a rewarding piece with drama and depth that will be the high point of any concert or festival program. Period!

The horn is a whole different breed of beautiful and difficult. When I first started band, I chose the French horn because it looked cool. And I’m glad I did that, cause I can’t see myself playing any other instrument as passionately as the horn. I’ve played the trumpet, mello all the time for pep and marching band, and the piano. But the horn, though it’s so hard to play sometimes, it’s so, so beautiful when you get the note to come out as you want it.
One of Samuel Hazo best work. Terrific dynamic contrast, a lot of middle eastern influenced melodies in the piece. Brass have their chance to shine and Woodwinds have A LOT of moving lines. Bass Clarinet sounds awesome in this piece!

***** lol it was very tough, but it's a great learning experience too.
Honestly, people seem to over emphasize how hard Arabesque is to play. The piece is a challenge to be sure, it is a grade 5 after all, but compared to Ride or Rush, Arabesque is an easy run through.

No tenor sax is actually pretty ok.
I wish everyone in my band mastered their instrument so we could play something like this.
This was one of the hardest and most fun songs that I played in high school.
This piece will always have a sense of Nostalgia for me. It was the first piece I ever played in concert in the top band at my highschool. That was a few years ago, and I’ve since bought a professional level instrument so I can pursue music for the rest of my life. I only hope to get the feeling of that song back again. It’s a one of a kind piece.

We played this at the TLU band camp, we only had four days to learn it and the applause we got when we finally preformed it at the concert is still one of the most rewarding things I have ever felt.
Although this entire piece is incredible, 4:49 through 5:25 sounds absolutely amazing!

Me when we were listening to this in class : I bet this will be tons of fun to play! Band director: hands me first clarinets part Me : 😦🕶️🤏🏽
3:38 The only reason why I know anything that is happening here in the flutes and clarinets is because we had to go over this so many times to get it down in my band lel this is such a cool song, especially the ending, I feel like this has the best ways to end a song, ever in all of band songs, cant wait to hopefully play this again soon
This sounds like heaven for all those brass players who love to blast their sounds out and just play

when i played this junior year of high school, i didn't appreciate it as much as i should have. I was just an angry clarinetist who was annoyed with the amount of altissimo-register notes. But now being an alumni and having all kinds of facebook memories from band concerts come up, I have to say this was by far my most favorite piece I ever performed in my 7 years of middle/high school band, and still my all time favorite over everything I've played even after high school
Genuinely love this piece for the amount of bass clarinet and contrabass this has. 🥰
The ending literally gives me chills, those chords are beautiful!
lol i had my volume full blast & the beginning scared tf outta me 😂
I play trumpet and this was so much fun to play. Loved every second

I love this song so much! One of my favorite songs I’ve ever played, and played this at Area All State late last year. I loved playing this as a flute 2
