Hey Gerald! Lovely video as always, super chill to watch. Lil' update: 200D seems to have a new, much quieter fan and is pretty much inaudible even with the default fan profile. They also reinforced the bit that was sensitive to overtightening/cracking. Super happy with them!

This is true, now its much quiter, and now after one year after the video I bought 2 of them. New ventilator, new software made it more quiet, look that you dont get a older one (produced) at ebay...

I just love how you incorporated the outtakes. That just gives a lot of motivation to small content creators like me to go out there and make more and more content, make mistakes, repeat, learn, and so on. Making mistakes is a part of the process and it shouldn't really make us panic!

@@kylelimeback The Godox are a bit more expensive but you get a more solid build, remote control and battery power. If you need location shooting these Amaran are a no-go, however for a home studio or just to set them and forget them, they're a great value.

@@nachojr99 That's what I'm gathering. Looks like you get better build quality out of the newer Godox models by comparison. I'd be curious to see how they stack up from a technical perspective. Location shooting isn't a big deal for me, but for a similar price, I feel like these wouldn't be too much of an upgrade from a Godox SL-60 where the newer Godox would in every way.

@2WheelsGood Personally, I prefer the old fashioned remote control that Godox provides in the box. I don't want to rely on an app on my phone.

Your out-take rejects at the end of the video is hilarious! And I thought I had a hard time with certain paragraphs that include saying various make and model names of various products. I sometimes do 20 different re-takes for the same paragraph before I get it right. That's while using a teleprompter too, haha!

Yes, I also noticed the very, very different lux numbers for the 100d in particular. Over at DSLR Video Shooters the 100d beats the 120dii in terms of lux, here it is (clearly) the other way around. Wondering what is going on there...

@@davidacoder yeah, I'd like more information as well. Was it a measurement error from one of the creators. Looks like they both have light meters.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who talks to themselves while filming these !

Thanks for the review! One day when you have time, try to check if the bulb of the Aputure lights sits exactly in the focal point of the parabolic modifier (it doesn't) and then discuss why you would use a reflector purposed for collimating light, when it doesn't collimate, and why you would be using a collimating reflector together with a layer of diffusion, ment for scattering the light.

I preordered the 200X as a secondary light to my 300X. Sticking with bicolor for more versatility. Slight power reduction worth it for options I think.

Can not wait to get to preorder the lightdome SE, i want to leave it up permanently on the wall paired with my amaran 200d then my SL300 and lightdome 2 on a Cstand. Thanks for the video !

I’m very happy to see that Aputure has finally made a more affordable light for KZreadrs (probably the target market). I’m definitely going to pick up one of these for an addition light in my studio. Do they seem to have the ability to hold larger/heavier soft boxes?

If Aputure really has cheaped out on the fan for the 200w models, it will be interesting to see if there is a Noctua fan that will fit the space and airflow needs. It might also be possible to bypass the fan controller and just run the fan continuously (might require soldering, though.)

Couple of 200d lights sounds like a winning solution for fixed studio lights. Tempting. Was considering another 120dMkII.

Excellent review & overview, very helpful! But Aputure, you’re killing me!!! These would have been an instant purchase if provided with a battery power option!!! Weddings never have power outlets where I need them...

Awesome video as always. I'd love to see how these compare to the Godox VL150s though. That seems like it's the obvious competitor.

Wonder how trivial it would be for Aputure to swap out that 3-pin XLR power end with a low-profile one to solve the umbrella rod issue... 🤔

Aputure is killing it with these releases! Just read the new 60d has higher lux than the 120d, which costs double. Wonder what were going to see next week!

Hi! thanks for your extremeley valuable work! What do you think is louder, a godox sl150w or the 200d model? Regarding the values you give in your videos, it looks like the godox is louder, but you don't mention it as a problem. Were this measures taken at the same distance?

@@itsanguyennguyen7646 Yep. I already have the Godox, and was considering another, but the 100D looks like a no-brainer (ideal for me!!). Will be adding one of these when they appear in France...

It's a really, really, REALLY good time to get into cinematography. Things like these lights and Sirui's amazing budget anamorphic lenses represent true technical disruption, which is good for all of us. The cost bar for entry has been lowered TREMENDOUSLY!

I just bought the godex VL200. (Thanks for your review of those - I love them) How do these compare to the 200d.

Question: How would you say these compare to the Godox VL Series lights? For functionality and build they seem like a better compromise than these.

I've been using Elgato Key Lights and they've worked really well for my use case -If I had the space or didn't have those, I'd be picking up some of these.

Dude the Aputure 1DX 200D Mark II is my absolute favorite.

Great video mate! I am looking for lights that are good for studio as well as offsite. You mentioned Amran not being good for offsite. Other than the choice of softbox being hard if it requires alot of assembly and there being no included travel box did you have a specific point as to why the Amran lights are only good for studio? I presume you may mean also the fact you must use a cable and not batteries but is there a clear reason why these lights may not be good to travel with?
