Aprilia Tuono 660 Review | Better than Kawasaki Z900 and Yamaha MT-09?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Finally, the Aprilia Tuono 660 is here. As you probably know, it's based on the RS 660, and it's built on a completely new platform. Although just a 660 cc twin, this engine does a great job though the whole rpm range, pulls like insane and sounds lovely.
However, the Aprilia Tuono 660 faces great competition from rivals such as the Kawasaki Z900 and Yamaha MT-09.

    Excellent review as usual. I test rode this bike in Paris yesterday and was so impressed that I think I'll trade in my GS1250 in for one asap! It really is perfectly balanced, sounds great and is fantastic for city riding and twisty backroads. It does lack a tiny bit of power compared with the Triumph Steet triple, which I tested the same day, but makes up for it with easy, natural handling.

    I still wonder what its class gonna be. Im comparison to other more entry level naked bikes, that share round about the same capacity, its head and shoulders above its competitors.Thats meant in terms of technology (electronics) , power and unfortunately price. (Thinking MT-07, Z650 and Trident 660) If you compare it to the next higher category its still pricey, it still has in comparison a bit of budget suspension (for example a rear shock without linkage), its lacking 20-30+HP and some cc. (Mt-09, Street Triple r/rs, Z900, Duke 890,Monster....) I'm excited to see if its going to be a motorcycle that's really get purchased or if just plenty people really think its cool but just a few actually buy. I think you must be a real Aprilia enthusiast to purchase this one. But the rational best buy you can get, it's probably not.

    They didn't "remove" them, they made them optional. I think partly to differentiate the two models since there aren't many differences. I suspect nearly everyone who buys this model will pay the relatively modest extra to equip it the same as the RS. In the US, they also spec the same power, though in other markets the Tuono is down 5 horsepower (peak) from the RS. • @jackalster77

    @jackalster77

    3 жыл бұрын

    I have ridden both and it would be a longer answer but here are few points only. 1. Street is very nimble but the 660 is nimbler. 2. Exhaust very good on both but street triple has a wider gamut of exhaust notes depending on the RPM especially after 6K. 660 has very good exhaust too, just seems a little less refined comparatively. 3. TFT display, Street is better, even if the 2020 model's RPM display is worse than the 660's. 660's is the same old style with chunky bezels they have been using for a good few years now across a lot of Aprilia and Moto Guzzi V85TT. 4. Seat very comfortable on both models, probably slightly more comfy on 660. 5. Fit and finish of a Triumph will always be higher than that of an Aprilia. The only brand in the Piaggio group which competes with Triumph on quality of fit and finish is Moto Guzzi. 6. I like the rear brake feel better on the 660. 7. Of course on rider aids, 660 is ahead of Street with cornering abs, anti wheelie, corner lighting and cruise control, making it a better value bike.

    Yeah, but i think they do this for sport/super sport bikes cause those are primarily made for acceleration, speed, handling... I don't see those new, small bikes great for everyday ride, practicality or two up.

    @@MyMednas Both Aprilia models look almost identical; the bodywork is just a bit larger (taller) on the RS660. The Tuono 660, like its 1100cc equivalent V4, is not a naked bike, just a bike with a raised handlebar position.

    I'd like Yamaha to take this approach. The MT-10 should be a more comfortable R1. Relax the rider triangle, delete clip-ons, lower the pegs, and trim the fairing.

    the only problem with Aprilia is the service. They dont respect warranty and you have to wait weeks and weeks for your bike to get fixed. Buyer beware. I had to sell mine out of desperation.

    Fairly disappointing bike, I don't think it can compete with the z900 and MT09; it doesn't even come close to an ST765R - while costing about (or more) than those bikes. Shame though, I love the looks.

    Aprilia is never going to be a real competitor of japanise bikes. Never, doesn't matter the weight or horsepower, i've seen to many problems on italian bikes as ducati or aprilia and really expensive to fix it comparing to japanise ones. Not worth it even if you want to waste your money because youre rich. Is just an opinion i am not fan boy of Japanise bikes, but they are the best talking about price and quality ever. And the sound of mt09 with akrapovic carbon i think is one of the best sounds on the market.

    I haven't yet ridden an RS660 or a Tuono 660, but having ridden the MT-09 and XSR900, there are many middleweight naked motorcycles I would choose over them, and I expect the 660's to make that list. I don't think many will consider this motorcycle comparable to the deeply budget-oriented MT-07, aside from cylinder layout and displacement.
