McGuinness = Absolute Legend! Always love hearing what he has to say I know this won't be popular, but I kinda of want the man to hang up his competitive lid; he's been so successful, he's got absolutely nothing to prove to anyone, he's got his lovely family..., I mean, I want him to do what he wants to do, but I just hope he doesn't push beyond what his years can support...

Quick correction: 204hp and 214hp are crank numbers, not rear wheel... unless your dyno is way off of reality. Cycle World’s dyno posted 182 for the BMW, which matches the advertised crank figure of 205hp from BMW when you subtract the average drivetrain loss of around 10%.

Did you guys try different map settings on the bikes? being an Aprilia owner and ridden the BMW it makes a big difference to the throttle response changing maps on both. It always surprises me that reviewers don't change settings, power and suspension settings when the manufacturers spend millions £ developing them

S K We played with some but not all of the settings. You’re absolutely right, it’s important to find the ideal combination for your style of riding. I’m just back from the R1 launch and certainly found a slightly softer power setting more beneficial on corner exit.

@@ChrisMag100 yeah, but on the RSV4 it's a euro 5 emissions compliant system with a catalytic converter. There's no two ways about it, that will reduce power and increase weight. I lost 5kg and gained 4bhp by just getting rid of my catted exhaust. The BMW had a unrestricted full aftermarket system on that added 11bhp and reduced weight by quite a few kg.

Sierra Nevada It’s just how we’re running our long-term BMW at the moment which agreeably isn’t how some might wish to see head-to-head tests although the extra power figure and torque figures are in the mid-range, not peak, which is where the Aprilia is particularly strong. By having the modifications on the BMW it aligns the two bikes for retail price. They’re both very strong bikes on and off track! I think if anyone was going to choose between these two then they’d ride both to begin with.

I tried an early sv650 with injection, and honestly that was no better than my 30 year old bikes... is that "problem" gone on new bikes? PS i tend to just solve the problem by running higher RPMs when i go for a corner on high lean - no biggie really

It’s 11bhp extra in the mid-range, c. 8.5k rpm, not peak. And it’s the mid-range where the Aprilia is particularly strong. We’ve been running the BMW with a full system for a while and thought the Aprilia was the only modern day bike with similar performance... and price once the Alta system is included. It was never meant to mislead which is why I mention it so blatantly in the intro to the video. Yes, the RACE mode was activated on the RSV4.

Reason being that I prefer the animal that needs to be tamed rather than the BMW, because it's so easy to ride, that I'd be racing everywhere at top speed EVERYWHERE! It's soooooo capable that it rides itself, it disappears underneath you, which for me is not what I need as I would stalk the streets looking for things to kill. It would be the end of my license, kinda like with my H2.

I wish the BMW had them. There's definite brake fade towards the end of a particularly hard braking track day.

No, just the full system. The vastly complex computer and lamda sensors sort the air/fuel mix. It’d like to have it remapped just to see the difference though.
