Thank you so much....this really made me feel good inside, Naomi because that is exactly what we hope to do on this channel. Please continue to enjoy. You made my day, CaliKim
You remind me of the Father's Day freeze where I live in west-central Wisconsin. I returned from visiting my parents in northern Minnesota to find the leaves of my summer squash killed. Bush beans germinate poorly unless the soil is warmed up in late May. Cold, damp soil encourages insects to eat the seeds as they sprout. They require so much space that it is impractical to start them indoors. I started lettuce & Swiss chard indoors & transplanted them into a raised bed in mid-April. I also planted seeds of carrots, beets, kale & rutabaga.

Your videos are so clear, informative, and entertaining. I have also planted nasturtiums around my garden because of you. I just have one question. I have the vermisterra vitality liquid. I was wondering if this is different from the worm tea you always talk about. Thanks for answering and thanks for all the great content you make. Kim, did you know that the USDA just changed some hardiness zones across the country? They evidently re-evaluate the zones every 10 years. We went from 8a to 8b in upstate SC. It would be fun to see you grow some artichokes in your garden. They are supposed to be perennials here and I'd love to have a bunch growing and producing every year I didn't need to plant every year.. The hearts taste so yummy and they are really good for your liver. I bet they'd be a candidate for one of your large grow bags

@@CaliKim29 I thickly spread organic cornmeal from the grocery store and it actually worked against slugs ! , they dried out and one exploded when I picked it up, ugh. Anyhow, I know it made a big difference for me as my seedlings are sprouting and staying put without being demolished. I will use a lot of this cornmeal as a barrier to protect precious seedlings right away when I put garden vegetable seeds in the beds and ground. We also have pocket gophers which is another pest, any help controlling them ? I heard baking soda mixed with corn meal will kill them.Thanks for your reply.

Yes, that's correct! Baking soda mixed with cornmeal can be an effective natural remedy for controlling slugs. Just sprinkle the mixture around areas where slugs are active, but be mindful not to apply it directly to your plants (of course). CK

Love your channel! I'm a fledgling patio gardener, so I have an embarrassing question. What is the difference between 'green beans' and pole beans vs bush beans?? I want to grow green beans for the table, but I'd also like to grow 'beans', i.e. pinto beans, etc. I honestly can't tell the difference when looking at the pictures on seed packets. 🎋
@CaliKim29
Ай бұрын
Great to have you following along! Each of these different type of beans can be green, as well as other colors. Read on and see if this helps? Not an embarassing question at all - Green beans, pole beans, and bush beans are all types of beans but DIFFER in their growth habits and characteristics. Green beans, also known as snap beans or string beans, are the general term used to describe the immature pods of various bean plants that are harvested and eaten before the seeds inside have fully matured. Pole beans are a type of bean plant that grows as a climbing vine. They require support structures such as poles, trellises, or other vertical supports to grow upwards. Pole beans produce longer vines and tend to bear beans continuously throughout the growing season. They can yield a larger harvest but require more space and support Bush beans are another type of bean plant that grows in a more compact, bushy form. They do not require support structures and tend to stay more compact, making them suitable for smaller gardens or container gardening. Hope this helps! CK

Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me! I'd love to see you do a video on these details if you don't already have one up? I've been following your channel for a couple of years, and don't recall seeing one on only beans per se, lol. I didn't know the part about immature pods being the 'green beans' version. I'd love to see examples of best timing on that because I think I waited too late last year (grew pole and bush). PS - you and my best friend could be twins.
