Enjoyed learning from you as always! Very interesting about heat affecting flower production for cucumbers, thank you! Fun tip I want to share, you can use dried luffah to scrub those spines off the pickling cucumbers. They scrub carrots and potatoes well too. Hoping everyone had a lovely mother's day! ❤️

Hey guys, I always miss your live streams but....Always watch later in the day. I have been a subscriber since early winter. I have been bound and determined to teach myself to start my own seeds this year and plant a better garden in spring. Well.... I did it, I actually did it. I will be finished planting everything out into my raised beds by the end of the week. I bought most of my seeds from you and have both of your books. Thank you sooooo much CaliKim :)

Doesn't matter how big your harvest is, or if things die...that's all part of it. But, you. Did. It!!! Thank you for subscribing, supporting and for your encouraging words. It's comments like yours that remind me of why I make the videos. THANK YOU!!! CaliKim

1st time attending the live stream and had a great time! You even answered 2 of my questions! ❤❤❤❤❤ I watched the DIY trellis video and plan on doing that on a wider scale. I have a platform of containers that I want to utilize the trellis for: cucumber, tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew (1 container of each). It’s held up 4x4 posts that I’ll attach the wire to, but I think I need a few supports inbetween the posts (8’ between posts) to support the weight of everything 😅 Plan is to assemble it this week while tomatoes and cucumbers are growing and be ready for when the melons get planted. (Maybe I should grab some pantyhose for the melons too 🤭) ❤❤❤❤ So glad I found your channel. Much love

I know it is early in the season, but I already have Sweet Banana peppers ready to pick-unbelievable. My radishes are bolting, so I had to pull them up. I have extra seedlings from the replacement crop of determinant tomatoes, Ace-55, Black Krim, and Martino's Roma, so I'll plant the extra seedlings where I removed the radishes. The radishes didn't go to waste. I got a handfulk of Malaga Radish, and ate them. They are a great snacking radish with a mild flavor, and they are... purple. The rest are in my compost bin, and will feed my garden next year. The Early Girl tomato plant that I rescued last week is standing tall and has doubled in size. I must be doing something wrong for it to grow that fast, and most of my tomato plants are shoulder high and have fruit on the vine. It is a month early for that! LOL I'm trying to train my cucumber vines to climb, but they are determined to sprawl on the ground. I'll win, even if I have to tie them to the trellis. I have a full roll of hemp twine, and I'll use it. It is same with the Hearts of Gold cantaloupe. Both the cucumbers and cantaloupe are loaded with flowers. The Sugar Baby Watermelon, are better at figuring out which way is up. The ground cherries are loaded with husks of fruit, and the summer squash is flowering and setting fruit. The crookneck squash is loaded with squash. No doubt, I'll be picking some next week. This week is a rainy week. I might have to water one day depending on cloud cover and temperature. I might not. But I have seedlings I can transplant, and others that I can repot. My Goji berry bushes finally reached a hight that I felt I was comfortable with transplanting them into the ground. They are now in their permanent spot, in my herb garden. Let's see... I have six comfrey plants growing, two putting up flower stalks, four patches of dill, five patches of basil, a large patch of parsley, two patches of chicory, one patch of yarrow, two patches of oregano, one patch of catnip, and a large patch of lemon thyme that is on its third year. I have chives, cilantro, marjoram, spearmint, and peppermint growing in other areas. It is not everything on my list, but it is most of what I need. Oh, my mother brought two one year old seedlings back home from upstate New York with her, for my orchard. Planting them is going to be a lot of work. They don't root in the Alabama red clay soil, so I'm going to have to amend it heavily, 1/3 soil, 1/3 sand, 1/3 forested compost for organic material. The apple trees, plum trees, and cherry trees were a lot easier, half red clay, half compost, and the holes were smaller and shallower. I'm going toi have to dig down at least eighteen inches, and a three foot diameter hole for each tree. That is going to be a lot of fun. NOT! LOL. I'll get over it, and in three or four years, I'll have peaches. I already got cherries this yesar from the North Star cherry tree. The Honeycrisp put out a lot of blossoms, but didn't have another variety of apple tree to pollinate with. The Fuji apple tree only put out a few blossoms, but deer got to them. However, it has an apple developing on it. Ill get an apple this year. It is one more than I expected. All of the trees are over the shock of transplanting and have new growth. The North Star Cherry tree is has new leaf buds, a few have sprouted, and it blossomed again. I have more cherries developing on it.

I started my Diva seeds in a tall raised bed in the biggining of April . I see they have poked up rom thesoil with one sprout each and they are less then 1/2 inch tall. They just don't seem to be growing. I started armenian cucumber in anoher pot and those are bigger but still very very small maybe 3 inches. For being out there as long as they have they should like yours. I am in So Califiornia as well. I watch yours and friends and families videos and everyone has crops 10xs the size of mine in size at this point and always have much bigger plants than I do. I did prepare my soil as you have suggested and don't understand what I am doing wrong. The flowers I have planted also seem very small and slow growers. The only flower that actually did anything I expected was the nasturium. I love growing stuff and always excited to get something but I am not very susccesssful with my crops.

That is so frustrating when you are tending your garden well and everyone else is growing bigger vegetables than you. That is completely understandable, Debbie. Here is a list of possible factors that only you will know the answers to: 1. Check Soil Quality. Ensure your soil is well-draining and rich in organic matter. Diva cucumbers thrive in fertile soil. pH Level: The ideal soil pH for cucumbers is between 6.0 and 6.8. Test your soil and adjust if necessary. Nutrients: Ensure your soil has enough nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. A soil test can help determine if you need to amend your soil with fertilizers. 2. Watering Practices Consistent Moisture. Cucumbers need consistent moisture, but the soil shouldn't be waterlogged. Mulching. Use mulch to retain soil moisture and regulate temperature. 3. Full sun. Cucumbers need at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. 4. Temperatue. Cucumbers prefer warm weather, temperatures that are consistently above 70°F (21°C) during the day. Cool weather can stunt growth. 5. Plant Spacing: Ensure plants are spaced correctly to allow for air circulation and to prevent competition for nutrients. Divas typically need about 12-18 inches between plants. 6. Pests and Diseases. Look for signs of pests such as aphids, cucumber beetles, or diseases like powdery mildew. Treat accordingly with organic or chemical treatments. 7. Regular Feeding: Cucumbers are heavy feeders. Use a balanced fertilizer, and consider side-dressing with compost or a balanced organic fertilizer. 8. Check Seed Quality: If the seeds were old or not stored properly, they might have reduced viability. Consider getting fresh seeds from a reputable supplier, aka CaliKim : ) 9. Trellising: If your cucumbers are vining types, provide a trellis for support. This helps with air circulation and reduces disease. 10. Companion Planting. Plant cucumbers with companion plants like beans, radishes, and marigolds that can help improve growth and deter pests. You'll get this - let me know...CaliKim. Please Subscribe and thumbs up the video, if you have not already - that helps my channel! CaliKim
