This is a fantastic video format. You shooting the current months COF and loading it up for viewing is a stroke of genius and so beneficial for people like me who have just discovered NRL .22 and very keen to give it a go at my fortnightly shoots. Even if it is just me at the moment and doing it unofficially as I try and encourage interest from the few shooters that attend my local range at the moment. Well done mate..Michael.

That’s probably because I messed up, and forgot to include the rolling stage description in the video. Mistakes were definitely made.. did you catch the bloopers at the end of the video? I snuck them in there as an Easter Egg to the folks who watch all the way to the end.

Thanks for another great walk trough! I've got burned before because I forgot to reset turret after dialing for a single target stage and moving to a multiply target stages where I usually use hold overs. And Happy Easter to you and your family.

Always enjoy the match breakdowns you make. Great to see how others attack the same problem. Unrelated to the video, I’m interested to know if you adjust your zero at the zero time on the morning of a match or do you just leave your zero setting and make mental note of the shift?

Great question.. it really depends on circumstances. Mostly how much of a temperature variation there will be both between when the zero period starts and what the high temps will be for the day of the match. I’ve noticed that temps create the biggest swings in POI. That being said, I make it a habit to at least double check to make sure that my zero is good before shooting a match. But, if I’m a .1 low at 8a and know the temps will climb as the morning wears on.. I’ll just note that on my first stage of the day, I may want to hold .1 up on my elevations until the temps start to climb. If I’m .2 - .3 in one direction or the other from the last time I checked zero… I’m absolutely going to fix that before a match.

I get the shifts when the temp is different and had always assumed that my kestrel was compensating for the shift in zero due temperature since I take the time to make the temp/velocity table. Then I was informed I was wrong and that the kestrel assumes a perfect zero at all temps. So I figured I’d check with shooters that are better than I am before changing how I go about my match prep.

What is your “roof”? That looks way better than the plywood junk I built

How about restriction: No bags, no pods, just supported by body or the object from which you shoot?

Sometimes those kinds of gear restrictions are specified in a stage description.. However, when I have a tool at my disposal that’s not forbidden; why would I choose to not use it for the sake of not using it? I want to all but guarantee that my projectile lands exactly where I want it to land. If I have equipment that makes me more efficient, more stable, and leads to more impacts, I’d be silly not to utilize it.

@@22LimaRomeo Yes ofcourse one will want to optimize the chance to win. I haven't shot much yet but somehow I wish there would be less gear in the sport. It would of course need to be bigger targets or closer range targets if the requirement is unsupported positions. All I meant with my original comment was if you would think it's a good idea to implement that kind of restrictions more in the sport?

@@bingoberra18 I wouldn’t want to change this sport. There are some disciplines that might be really interesting to you. 3 position small bore, and biathlon shooting are sort of like what you’re describing. The fun in this sport is the creativity by both the MD/COF designer, and the folks who like to come up with equally creative ways to shoot that COF. The gear we use is pretty specialized for this type of shooting, and knowing how and when to use that gear is a skill all in its own.
