Approaching The Scene 257: Kase’s Revolution Is Here (Kits & Single Filters)

Ойын-сауық

(LINKS BELOW): Kase’s Revolution Filters are in stock. We’ve replaced our stock of ND kits, Mega kits and individual filters with Revolution. I’ll show how these filters are an improvement over the already great Wolverine filters, how to use them and give a few warning about the inlaid rings included with the kits.

My set arrived today. They are a thing of beauty. And their making possible the transformation of the 14-24 HB-whatever hood into my filter holder on multiple lenses is just too good. I didn't even screw up on installation. And very happy to send my purchase your way (even tho some of the big players were offering free shipping to the US Northern Protectorate, ah, Canada 😀). As always, thanks for your insights and advice. Cheers!

Hi. So, I can be easily confused (truly 😃 ), so for clarity: If I get the 112 filters and use the adapter ring in the 14-24 hood, I then simply use that hood on my other 82 mm (Z) lenses to hold my filters? I note the hood fits nicely on my 50 1.2 z as well. As always your content is so helpful and informative. Thanks.

Hi Hudson, don’t you miss not using graduated density filters? Or you just take multiple exposures? Thanks Rick

The biggest diameter lens I have and will own, is an 82mm - Its a 24-70mm. All the other lenses I own are 72mm. I will be getting primes in the future with a much smaller diameter. Wondering if I should get the 95mm or the 82mm I don't have a wide angle lens, but may get a 16-35mm one day.

I did not know until this video that the 14-24 hood fit all those other lenses. I hated using 112s until now.

I have the Revolution filters, and while yes, technically a pinch cap will attach, it isn't enough to actually stay in place. The slightest little bump knocks it right off. The inset adapter better allows this, which is great.

My pinch cap has yet to fall off. Been using it for months with the revolutions. I still advocate pitching those inset rings directly into the dumpster asap!

@@HudsonHenryPhoto If using directly with a lens, I completely agree. I found using on a step ring to work fine since there are so few threads on them to begin with and it just sets against the back of it fine.

I had zero issues for two weeks with a pinch cap on the 3 stop ND in front of my 85 1.2 slung on my hip through the streets of Havana and mountains of Vinales... Never a drop. :) On the other hand the inset ring interfered with the pinch cap on the 24-120 lens I tried it on. It also cross threaded and I barely got it out without damaging the lens. User beware on the inset rings. I think they're of little to no use (particularly for those of us who prefer adapting larger filters to share a single kit and avoid vignetting). On the other hand they do pose a serious threat to do harm to your lens threading them right up to your front element. I throw them away with the box. No thanks.

So I have a question. I have the 24-120 Z and the 85 1.8 Z and the 100-400 Z. I seldom use the 85 anymore. So, I would need 2 of the 77mm to 82 mm magnetic step-up adapter rings for the 24-120 and 100-400 in addition to the 82 mm mega filter kit?

I share a single adapter ring between my 24-120 and 100-400. It's in a very easy to reach pocket and takes 10 seconds to spin off and on when I switch lenses. I dont use the filters unless I need to. In rough conditions I thread a 77 MC-UV on them, but I remove that with the cap before threading an adapter and cpl, ND or night filter on.

I'm not sure. I doubt a single filter would. They're very thin. If you want 95s to be safe, I can get those in one extra day. Just email me. :)

I’m in Canada and the 112 mm are sold out. Will the 95 mm be enough for stacking filters on an 82mm 15 to 35 mm Canon RF lens. Thanks in advance. Great videos!

I think for you the 95 make a great deal of sense. I sell those kits as special orders, but it might be too much shipping and customs to Canada. :-(

Hello I’m considering a new set of kase filters for my 14-24 2.8, 24-70 and 70-200 2.8 I thought about the mega set that includes the natural light filter and the uv , or maybe the just the nd set and to add the natural light , I’m not sure the uv is worth the extra money. With this price I can add the 16.5 stops as well What do you think? The uv filter is worth it ? Do you use it ?

I really only use it to shoot in extreme conditions that would worry me with the front element exposed. Blowing sand and salt spray being primary. Sand dunes, coastal landscapes with waves and wind. That front element is so amazingly coated and I don't want to think what replacing it would cost. It's rare though. Remember if you put three Kase items in the cart of our store you get 10% off all the Kase items in there (including kits). For followup email me. I'm leading a workshop in Costa Rica and may easily miss a KZread response.

Sadly no. We do have adapter rings to let the big filters go onto anything with threads though.
