The hospital I work at (which is a big hospital) uses Masimo O2 sensors for our patients. They’re a big company - not Apple big - but still a big company.

I wonder whether, if the ruling is upheld for now, Apple will disable the oxygen sensor (at least its data recording aspect) via firmware.

That'd be an interesting solution. To be honest, I very rarely use the oxygen saturation sensor to check my O2 levels. And I'm not sure how it's used otherwise. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’ve found it useful with my Garmin, for example wondering whether I had COVID and then finding the oxygen level was in fact low (and I did have COVID). I don’t know how or whether Garmin, Apple and others use the data in computing overall health or trends.

Hi there! I noticed that you've tested many versions of the Apple Watch, which is impressive. As an Apple fan myself, I've used the Apple Watch 3, 7, and Ultra2 for my runs, but I've noticed that all of these models have an issue with the heartbeat monitor. Specifically, when I run in low temperatures, the watch fails to read my heartbeat. I recall watching one of your videos where you mentioned this issue. Could you please let me know how you solved this problem? Do you use 3rd party apps or do you follow the advice of another KZreadr who suggested holding your arm still for 30 seconds?

Hi Norvynz, I have tested many many watches on this channel. So typically you'll see heart rate errors in cold weather when wearing a chest strap that gets dried out and can no longer detect the electrical output of your heart. Optical heart rate monitors don't suffer from cold weather in the same way. With Optical HRMs, I will often take a quick break and let them re-establish the correct HR. Optical HRMs very often suffer from mixing bounce with your HR. You can think about how they work, trying to sift between your running cadence and your pulse. I'd suggest wearing your optical HRM a bit more snug and push it up away from the wrist joint a bit to see if that helps. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. Yes, as far as I know, updating will continue. iOS 10.2 and the 10.3 and so on. I’m sure Apple will work out a way around this issue, it’s just crazy that it’s gotten to this point. 😬 Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

Actually I bought a Apple 9 a few weeks ago and wish I hadn't. Per lawsuit the oxygen sensors on Apple 9 - Ultra 2 have been disabled . 😡 The lawsuit expires 2028. I'm assuming this affects all Apples right after Jan 2024 up to 2028.

I got the series 9 about 2 months ago and have had the original Ultra about 9 months. Am extremely happy with both. And really don't use the blood oxygen that often. If they decide to disable it I would not care. But for those who really need it then go buy one that isn't affected by the lawsuit.

Has there been any updates that anyone knows? I just got interested in buying the ultra 2 but I guess I would like to see how this plays out. Thx for any help... I asked apple and they told me they couldn't elaborate on this issue. Also I guess these watches do updates so I guess if apple loses this. An update will come out and disable or just get rid of that function.

I don't think I'd let this effect my buying right now. I'd go for it. It's back on Apple.com after a week off but sounds like it might get removed again mid-january.

Great question actually, I'm not sure. I'm guessing it'll all work the same as before. I'm not sure if re-issuing hardware will be an issue for Apple going forward.

@@mlegrand Suggest a running watch! I’ve been running off and on my entire life. I’m in an off period but would like to get back into it. I’ve used Apple Watch and Garmin in the past, but have gotten rid of them for one reason or the other. If you were to start over with running tech, which watch would you get? On my radar are: Garmin, Suunto, Polar, Coros. My goal is a half marathon. I’m an Apple user.

I have a Apple Watch Ultra 2. I am glad I got mine. I hope Apple resolves this issue soon. As it is a great watch and actually, I prefer it sometimes over my phone.

Just in case, nobody is aware it’s only in the US only doesn’t affect people internationally like Australia or the UK Apple watches are on sale in other countries as normal.

Maybe made my impulsive buy of the Ultra 2 worth it? Big reason was also rumors the Ultra 3 won’t come until 2025, giving this an extra year of relevance. Thoughts?

I’m optimistic that the AWU 3 will come on time next fall but I wouldn’t be surprised if they needed a full extra year. It’s just taken a long time legally to get to this point where the ITC is saying “stop importing new Apple Watches into the US”.

I would not put it pass Apple to ship all their available watches to outside reseller like Best Buy or Amazon so that they don't lose on revenue.

I still got my original Apple Watch Ultra and it hasn’t given me no problems..what the difference you ask? Ultra 2 has 64gb of storage and it can go just a lower in the sea then the 1st ultra,more screen brightness,that’s it.

Why wasn’t the title of your video “Apple in patent dispute will stop selling Apple Watch Ultra 2”. Because you want people to think that Apple is going to stop selling the watches altogether and the real reason is just because of the patent dispute, which a judge will make a temporary ruling that might lift it on the 25th of this month. Sorry, but I think it’s getting to be a bit too much with the titles of these videos( not just you but many others as well) and they’re starting to seem a bit unethical in order to try to get people to watch the videos.

@@mden2490 - I think this is different. Apple is saying that they are stopping the sales of those watches. I reached out to Apple before posting this video. Could a ruling change things on the 25th? Maybe. But as I describe in this video, I don't think that's likely to happen. Yes, Apple is in patent disputes all the time. No, they don't stop selling one of their major product lines very frequently.

I don’t know about click bait. Apple is literally saying that they’re stopping sales of these two devices in the US on the 21st. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they did in fact have a fast fix ready on the 25th.
