Apple Pencil (USB-C) Review….3 Months Later!

Ғылым және технология

3 months after release, I do a review of the Apple Pencil (usb-c), or Apple Pencil 1.5, as I prefer to call it.

    I had a 2nd gen pencil. Just know if you accidentally leave it uncharged for an extended period of time, then pencil will die and will NOT recharge as it always needs to be charging. I actually like that this has the ability to be charged vs having to buy a whole new pencil 🥲

    The Benks pencil has the same features (not sure about hover) as this but it does magnetically charge. It is still cheaper at around $40 usd. I use one for my Mini without any issues.

    I’ve never used the Apple Pencil before so I got this one just to try it out. I’m no artist so the lack of pressure sensitivity isn’t a huge deal to me but it sure would be cool to have. For now I’m enjoying it just for making light annotations

    I think the wireless charging is a big deal. Especially if you are on the go or just want less clutter in work space. If price is an issue, I'd look for an open box, refurbished, or used 2nd gen one.

    I have an asus 2-in-1 laptop and the pen came included with the exact same charging under the cap mechanism. It also has 4096 pressure sensitivity levels but no tilt.

    @@SlatePad Not at all. I'm a student so I only use my pen to take notes. That being said, windows pen support (specifically in OneNote, which is what I use) can be unpolished at times and I've had some annoyances with interactions that don't work as expected. Edit: Overall, a windows tablet is a worse tablet, but the experience of having a single device for everything is better imo than having 2 devices.

    @amitthehuman I really love the Surface products, but Microsoft seems to have given up on investing in the tablet use case all together.

    @@SlatePad I do think they want to invest in it and that they've shown a bit of progress with windows 11. But they are extremely slow to improve. Like how foldable screen laptops are basically having to work around the OS, because Microsoft hasn't even started supporting it.

    @amitthehuman They are pulled in many directions, no doubt. I picked up an Asus ROG Ally a few months ago, and now I want them to focus more on a handheld gaming interface 😁

    How long does the battery last?

  • @SlatePad

    @SlatePad

    Relatively active use for note taking, I’d get a least a couple of hours, with no indication it needed charging. More causal/occasional use, I’d go about a week between charges.

    This is the most useless, offensive, product apple has ever released for average consumers (bullshit stands and earphones aside). No pressure sensitivity means it is literally as good as your finger.
