This is incredible, i’m an architect and often I need to model outsides of houses in revit and having a 15 pro iphone now I will able to do it much more easily! Love it, thank you

Great video! Have you seen Rami Tamimi (on youtube) who also uses iphone lidar for measured surveys?.. Using a gimbal improved the accuracy of the survey, but appreciate this is not widely available for ipads!

Thank you! Yes, big fan of Rami. His videos are really good for more details about how the iOS hardware compares to professional surveyor-grade equipment. 👍🏻

for the laser measurement: On my Nikon hand laser, its possible to activate a small camera that shows the spot where the red dot should be for use in broad daylight, dont know if possible on bosch laser

Yes, there are definitely more advanced and capable measuring tools for outdoor use!

Brilliant stuff! Have you tried exporting to sketch up and adding exterior design elements, like a gazebo or pool? Or would you recommend exporting to something entirely different if you wanted to draw over your scan?

Thanks! Yes, we are actually SketchUp specialists :) You can export files in formats that work in sketchup or other similar CAD software such as blender which is free to use.

Hi, thanks for the video. In terms of spending for an iPad pro or iPhone Pro, memory capacity is an issue. Asking about this project. How much MB was the point cloud file?

Thanks for watching! I exported a mesh Obj file which was around 50 MB for this project.

A point cloud capture is possible with other apps. The file size of iOS point clouds would be larger. Our latest video compare meshes and point clouds and includes info about the file sizes at the end of the video.

I’d probably try using a tripod, rotating 360 then moving on to the next plot

  • @LiDAR3D

You're right, that approach works for most cases :) Problems with 360 photos can be occlusions and piecing the layout together if there are lots of trees and bushes or buildings on the site. It's also much harder to extract measurements from 360 images. I haven't seen anything above 95% accurate to date. Drone shots and online maps can help with getting the shape and size but are also unreliable in certain conditions and struggle with land plots with lots of vegetation. Before iOS LiDAR I worked as a dev lead for a Proptech company with thousands of site plans yearly. Our production team often had to resort to using data from multiple sources on an order-by-order basis depending on the conditions on-site. Using iOS LiDAR has its challenges too but I would say it's easier, quicker, and more reliable at scale than other tools for the task. Thanks for watching and commenting 😃
