Thank you so much for this. My mom is experiencing aphasia post brain surgery. I can tell she is still “her,” she is still smart and she still makes familiar facial expressions and communication mannerisms. I know she will be getting speech therapy, but Medicare will dictate how often and how long. This video is beautiful because it is a short and easy but meaningful exercise I can do with her. I love your tip about cross-body motion building neural connections - I had no idea! Thank you!

I’m so glad you are finding this helpful for your mom and thank you for taking time to comment! It seems too simple but, these simple rhythmic exercises can have a BIG IMPACT on her recovery 🙏

@@beyondhighc Yes! And thank you for asking. She’s doing really well so far. She’s getting speech therapy every day in an in-patient setting and will be allowed to go home soon, where we can help her continue to progress (I hope) in between outpatient speech appointments. She has chemotherapy ahead of her, too, however, so we will continue uphill the best we can.

If you search for some videos here on KZread about saying the "s" sound, there are some good speech therapists you can follow along with. My experience is - practicing the sound you want to work on (especially in front of a mirror or your phone camera- so you can be sure your mouth is doing what it should) can help those sounds come out better (you do have to concentrate when you talk- on where that sound falls in your idea/sentence/word).

My brother is 5 months post ischemis stroke.. He was non verbal for the first month. Now he has few words. He cant speak sentences but he can repeat. Will he get better ? Normal ever ? Seems like he can understand most of what we say but not everything

So glad your brother has you! He could make A LOT of progress from here yes. Normal isn't a word I aim for- just as good as we can + keep reaching for better every day. He's on track to say more and more - that is what you want!
