APARTMENT TOUR - NORILSK, RUSSIAN FEDERATION 2020
Hello walkers, I'm Andrew, a North Pole Walker.
Let's take a walk together in Norilsk.
❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
Norilsk-Russian: Нори́льск, is an industrial city in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, located above the Arctic Circle, east of the Yenisei River and south of the western Taymyr Peninsula. It has a permanent population of 175,000.
It is the world's northernmost city with more than 100,000 inhabitants and the second-largest city (after Murmansk) inside the Arctic Circle. Norilsk and Yakutsk are the only large cities in the continuous permafrost zone.
Norilsk was founded at the end of the 1920s, but the official date of founding is traditionally 1935, when Norilsk was expanded as a settlement for the Norilsk mining-metallurgic complex and became the center of the Norillag system of Gulag labor camps. It was granted urban-type settlement status in 1939 and town status in 1953.[10]

Is Norilsk a closed city? I just thought it was hard to get to. Norilsk doesn't look so bad. I'd love to visit it. I live in Australia. It gets to 40'c here regularly. Some people in Russia may think that it's 'a dream life'... but once you live it, the novelty wears off. I want a change. My children want a white Christmas etc.
@MigthyDucksz24

@@user-sr7fo5fe6x Yes it's a closed city :) You can only live there if you have a special visa, like Andrei said in one of his videos. So it's not possible to live there if you don't have a wife that has invited you to go there. I would imagine also since you are australian going from +40 C to a possible -40 C as it gets super cold in Norilsk during the winter might be too much for someone that isn't used to that life style. I can imagine +40 C must be hell on earth. Id rather take -40 C but i am also from Sweden, so we have a cold climate compared to Australia xD But yeah, ive never been to Russia, but i study russian and follow many russian youtubers, and i feel like it depends what kind of life you want to live. If you just want a cold climate there are many other countries that you can go to. Norway, Sweden, Finland and Canada for example have one of the highest standards of living in the world and they are all western countries that speaks english, so you wouldn't have to adapt as much... If you want to live in Russia, you need to learn russian and it is likely going to be harder for you to live there beacuse of bureaucracy and a different style of living. The standard of living is alot more simple and modest and the cities outside of Moscow and St Petersburg are usually kind of not well taken cared of and quite polluted. So it all depends on your preferences i would assume.

Allow me to thank you for your sincerity. It's so refreshing to see Norilsk from the perspective of a real local instead of severely biased bloggers who use the town as a tool to promote their political agenda. In your videos, it almost looks like a place that I'd like to visit myself.

Such a beautiful home and family! Watching this made me so happy:) You’re right, there’s so much negative content about Norilsk. Thank you for showing us as it really is. Norilsk looks so unique and not at all as portrayed by most. Love from India, do visit on of your vacations:)

Hi and welcome, subscribe for more updates!
You and your wife have done an amazing job at making your apartment elegant and homely. Despite the criticisms levied at the soviet era pre cast concrete blocks that you and others live in, your apartment seems a great size and well thought out.

I've noticed something important from not only watching videos like yours, but also from my own personal experiences. 90 % of the media we get in America (and probably everywhere else), pertaining to other countries, is bullshit. Places like Mexico, South America, Africa, Russia etc... if you believe everything on the news you might end up thinking everyone rides mules on dirt roads and eats dirt and tree leaves. No, people are living their lives there just like we are living our lives here, and in some ways they have it better. No one needs to cry for them, if it was that bad no one would live there.

Well, it helps moving country. I moved from a rather rich western European country to a not-quite-as-rich southern European country. (When I say "not-quite-so-rich", things have really changed over the past 20 years, and it's light years away from what you'd call a poor country.) There are areas in the USA (West Virginia for example) where people don't even have running water or electricity. Anyway, migrating gives you a whole perspective, not only of the place where you moved to, but also the place where you came from. Certain things that you took for granted are not so obvious elsewhere. Like, for example, an almost perfectly reliable electricity supply. (Again, this has massively improved over the 20 years that I've lived here.)

What makes a city beautiful is its people and you are doing a great job at it.

I wouldn't say its beautiful...just about average. Like getting by. The outside block looks freaky...like I wouldn't want to stay there. Like the poorer side of town. Ive seen them in south africa. I'd stay there for the short term. This is my honest opinion

You made me laugh a bit in the part when you said to pause the video and like, so funny the way you said it! Anyways I would give you a thousand likes if I could! I know I'm a little weird haha but I'm fixated with Norilsk. I was so sad when I found out it's a closed city to foreigners. I found your channel on KZread by chance but it answers so many of my curiosities about this amazing city. And I still have so many questions! I'm bothered when some people on the internet make Norilsk (or Russia in general) pass as a polluted and dismal place. I've grown up in three different countries and I can say that you don't know a place at all until you've actually lived there for a while. Thank you so much for these awesome videos.
