The thing about this gag is that I only finally got it very recently (after many years and multiple viewings) when I read the script of the episode. I suspect quite a few of the audience didn't either. It's a testament to the quality of the writing/performance that it's *still* really funny even when you don't realise Alan has mistaken it for a swearword.

I actually rebadged this line when working as an archery instructor. When retrieving the arrows the kids should do so from the side of the archery board, to easily reach the tip of the arrow, and pull it free of the board. One particularly frustrated kid tried yanking the arrow out from in front of the board with some disgruntled murmurs …to which I replied: “If you don’t mind being disappointed from the side of the target board”. A fellow instructor soiled himself. To this day I do not know whether he got the reference or not.
